Not Wind Waker - it's all graphics & no substance
Ditto Mario Sunshine & Fzero gx & Smash Bros
Nor games replaced by better versions - Gran Turismo 3 will look like crap compared to Gran Turismo 2020.
I'll probably still play Super Monkey Ball
Final Fantasy 10
Rez
Space Channel 5
That's about it.

Pretty sure I'll still be trying to do the Monkey Ball 'Master' levels. And it's funny how the other 3 you mentioned were all DC games originally ;)

Hmm, interesting question.
Very hard to say though.
I guess stuff that doesn't age badly would be the ones I would still be playing.
Fantavision and R-Type Final for PS2
Super Smash Bros. Melee for GCN
Chainsaw_Charlie

Super Smash Bros. Melee for GCN
Won't SSBM look blocky & primitive compared to Super Smash 2020? ;) I don't play the N64 version any more. Or PS1 versions of Gran Turismo. They hav been replaced with the same game but better graphics.
An no surprise seeing my list dominated by Sega. Sega & Nintendo makes masterpieces.

Well, I said SSBM because I wasn't making the assumption that Nintendo will keep making them.

What's wrong with blocky and primitive? I still play my Atari 2600 regularly. Not every "update" automatically makes the original game better, Troy.

I don't think anyone is going to stop playing older versions of games because of blocky outdated graphics around here. I prefer Mario Kart 64 over Mario Kart Double Dash and I will probably prefer it over Mario Kart 2020.

i prefer the SNES/GBA mario karts and f-zeros to any of the 3D ones...track designs in the GP modes are LAME in 64/double dash/f-zero X/GX. -_-
i enjoyed mario sunshine, but i thought wind waker was awful, and not because of the graphics. by the time i actually got the raft, i was bored to tears, and it didn't get much better from there.
honestly, i can't think of a single one... :o

Zelda: WW- I'll love the sense of exploration that's so similar to the original.
SSBM- graphical upgrades or no graphical upgrades, this is an awesome game
Super Monkey Ball
Rogue Leader- I'm guessing that that's the most fun the series gets. Rebel Strike bit big time
Katamari Damacy- I could see popping this in regularly in the future
...
My PS2 doesn't get much lovin :P
Unless you count playing PS1 games like Bubble Bobble, Lunar, or Point Blank 3.

He said Final Fantasy 10, Rez, and Space Channel 5...so FFX was originally being developed as a DC title huh? That's news to me!
But anyhow. I'll probably get a bunch of (now) current gen stuff and enjoy it.
I never met a game I didn't like. Just some that changed my mind LOL

That's because you're weird though and randomly ban people from the message board. ;)
Anyway, the GTA series will be just terrible in a few years time. It's only a matter of time before another game has "more freedom" and completely outhines this series. I can't even stand it now, so that may have something to do with it too.

My question is whether Farfel is referring to stuff he thinks other people will play, or whether he's talking about himself.
Maybe that's what the disagreement stems from.

Yeah guess you're right. My message does imply it. Not what I intened
I just think 20 years from now - Smash Bros 2020 or Gran Turismo 2020 will replace the current cube/ps2 games - same game better graphics - more immersion in the sim. (Like GT3 replaced Gt2)
P.S. I still play my Atari 2600 regularly too. I love Jr. Pac-Man!

There's a very simple answer to this question: I'll be playing everything I own with the exception of the games that stunk to begin with.

Super Monkey Ball, because it's an awesome and original game. I'm still playing Marble Madness you know!
Crazy Taxi, can't get any funnier can it? Space Taxi is also an greeat game!
Dancing Stage Fever, Dancing is allways fun after a couple of bears.

I'm going with SMB and Viewtiful Joe on the 'Cube and the GTA series on the PS2. SMB and VJ because they are timeless and won't ever really age much and the GTA series becasue they are landmark titles and always will be. There may be more sophistication in future games but that doesn't mean all that much. I still play the original DooM and Heretic more than any other FPS and look how much that genre has grown...

Romance of the 3 Kingdoms part 7 for the PS2. 8 and 9 (plus 10-15) may be out 20 years from now, but untill my PS2 is dead, thats about the only thing I see myself playing from it. Maybe the future titles of Xenosaga. Depends how many they release for the PS2 and if they even finish it.

I feel the same way about RotTK 3 on the Genesis... I haven't been able to enjoy any after that.

Some of you focus too much on graphics. If a game looks graphically "outdated" after ten or twenty years is not important. Graphics alone are unimportant for the staying power of a game, otherwise Batman Return of the Joker for the NES would be heralded as wortwhile playing today.
If a game lives from graphics alone, THEN there is no chance in the world it will pass the time test.
Now you expect I'll say "gameplay" is THE decisive factor; nope, that is not the case either.
It is actually very simple, hard to achieve, and exactly what makes a great game of the past and the present: the perfect integration of every aspect of a game which we usually divide up: graphics, sound, story, and gameplay (= interactivity via control mechanics). What do I mean by that? They have simply to match each other, they melt into each other to one whole package. Style and content match.
The result is the identification of the player with game content. THEN you have a classic, then there is no feeling something is "wrong," then a game can be played years after its release independently in which direction game development is heading, then a game achieves what it sets out to achieve. This goes from a Pong, Space Invaders, Galaga, Pitfall, Zelda, Super Mario, Dragon Warrior, and Gradius to a Virtua Tennis, Crazy Taxi the N64 Zelda and Devil May Cry.
PS2 and GC suggestions:
Devil May Cry
Viewtiful Joe
Silpheed
Gradius V
R-Type Final
Ikaruga
Metroid Prime
Gran Turismo 3
Eternal Darkness
F-Zero GX
Legend of Zelda WW
Super Mario Sunshine
Final Fantasy X
Everblue 2
Contra Shattered Soldier
Disgaea
Kingdom Hearts
Prince of Persia TSOT
REZ
These are games strictly by timeless gameplay value as I defined it above; games which can be regarded cassic becasue of their groundbreaking impact but can't be played in ten years w/o looking and feeling outdated are not considered. (like Grand Theft Auto)

EXACTLY! I really don't get what he is saying about the outdated graphics thing, unless he only plays the latest games and not any older one.
That is sort of like saying that no one here on DP is playing SMB1-3, or even SMW, because Mario 64 or Mario Sunshine is out.

I wonder why Xbox games got excluded from this discussion, but I'll throw in my two cents!
GC
Crazy Taxi
Space Raiders
Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2
PS2
Bombastic
and yes, the Xbox
Deathrow
Project Gotham Racing 2
and anything else with custom soundtrack support

Project Gotham Racing 2
mh i don't think so really, people have already stopped playing MSR (yeah i know, of the dc fans a lot still play this one, but the dc+15 games owner doesn't play it anymore), this is one of the examples were graphics AND gameplay will improve from episode to episode, the only reason i could see for playing and old episode are the different tracks/cars but i guess those will be included in a future version as soon as the storage medium can hold that much data...

Hmmm. I wouldn't necessarily call these my favourites from each system, but they're games I can definteily see myself playing agin (go figure).
I'm including Xbox and DC too though, just 'cause I want to. :P
Gamecube
Eternal Darkness - my first "Horror" game and still my favourite.
Wind Waker - I'm too big a Zelda fan not to revisit older games :)
Ikaruga - I suck at it and yet love it...
Monkey Ball 1&2 - What's not to like about monkey's in balls?
PS2
Ico - Depends on what future iterations bring I suppose. A bigger game might make me forget the original...
Britney's Dance Beat - cheeze never goes out of style!
Xbox
Fable - although it *might* be too early to tell
MLB, NHL 2002 & Madden 2005 - yup. It's the last I'll buy for this generation, and I love going back and playing sports games with *really* old rosters.
DC
Crazy Taxi 1&2 - it'll always be time to make some *crazy* money!
Mr. Driller - I find puzzle games stand the test of time better than other genres

Heh, I'll still be trying to complete the sphere grid on Final Fantasy 10, probably. Also I'll for sure play the 2 Baldurs Gate games.
Gamecube
Super Monkey Ball- No explanation needed, this game owns

Probably...hm...tough one. Twenty years is a long time. At the rate I'm going, it's going to be 20 years before I catch up with my gaming backlog. With Super Smash Bros, it's probably going to take me 20 years just to get all those trophies. With Pokemon Colosseum, it's probably going to take me 20 years just to "catch 'em all." I'll probably never finish Skies of Arcadia...
I don't know. There are lots of older games from 20 years ago (Mines of Titan, Quest for Glory, etc.) that I'd like to play but haven't gotten around to. I haven't even gotten around to finishing the Bard's Tale yet.
