Sorry if this has been posted before. I saw this peripheral (maybe game too) in the window of a local bike shop. Anyone know what it is? Was it ever advertised anywhere? Is it a possible rarity?

Yes....I sell it.

What it is......is a training device for cyclists. You don't get the PS2 or the games. What you get is a special controller that mounts to the handlebars.....a handlebar-mounted button that is used as a brake in the game....and a special base that the front wheel of your bike will sit in. This base "steers" as you turn the bars. You can only play racing games on it. Gran Turismo as an example: the cyclist pedals for the gas instead of pressing "X"....and hits the bar-mounted "square" button to brake. Steering is done with the bike. The controller is just there to scroll through menus and options in the game.

We've never sold one. It's expensive so it's to order only.

Y'know, I could be in shape by my next birthday if I could make a daily exercise routine out of Katamari Damacy. LOL ^^;

Hey jdc, in all seriousness, is there any way this thing could be rigged to control Katamari Damacy? The more I think about it...

Hmmm....Katamari Damacy WOULD be THE killer game to play on it!!!

Like I said.....it was intended for racing games....but Damacy wasn't even in the pipes when it was invented.

The steering of the ball is no problem.....just turn the bike's bars.

Pedalling is X.

Stop is the handlebar-mounted button.

There's no right stick, triangle, or circle support as far as I can remember.....camera control might not be there. (THAT would be a challenge!!!) I'm going to take another look at the photos in the order book when I get to the shop.

Hmm... I have a exercise bike which never gets used. Maybe I could get a broken PS steering wheel and pimp my bike. Oh man, my very own PS2 bike. *dreams* :D

Yes, how much are these things? Odd, I thought it came with software too. If it did, I figured it would be even more collectible as a game.

Okay....did some more research.

There's a 3rd party "Playstation" controller that does indeed have all of the buttons and two sticks on it. It mounts to the bars.

There's a sensor that attaches to the rear triangle of your frame and picks up off of the rear wheel. This sensor is hardwired into the controller, as is the aforementioned base that steers, and the "stop" button. Then the controller is plugged as normal into the PS2.

You don't get any software, PS2 (or PSX), or even the trainer machine for the bike. At the cost of a PS2, software, stationary trainer AND this $250 rig....it's a crazy expensive way to play a video game.

I remembered something like this before, and I actually found it. Look at this:

Same idea, but used a SNES. I actually used one of these once. It did come with all software and hardware though.

I'd much rather have the Life Fitness bike for SNES Exertainment Mountain Bike Rally! At least with that one, you actually pedalled to move your bike on the screen! WTF is up with only using the front wheel to steer, and using the X button to pedal? That's not exercise! What are you exercising? The very few muscles that it takes to balance the bike and steer? And how do you keep on balancing the bike if it isn't moving? Or is that all the exercise?
