No, not pictures of video games. Allow me to explain:

I work at Target, as you may or may not have known, and we've recently gone through our pre-Christmas inventory transition. That means all the new stuff is in stock, basically. And I was surprised to see last week that two of our new Polaroid-brand DVD players include built-in game systems!

Check 'em out on the big red website...

The $230 version with 7" screen (Model PDV 077PT) (http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=1_9/qid=1097525231/ref=sr_1_9/000-3094227-5876730?%5Fencoding=UTF8&asin=B00062J3L4)

The $310 version with 8" screen (Model PDV 088PT) (http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=1_8/qid=1097525231/ref=sr_1_8/000-3094227-5876730?%5Fencoding=UTF8&asin=B00062J3KU)

So then...do these get filed under "Pong systems"? LOL

I'll add that, since our store displays are dummies, I haven't seen what the games look like.

The controller roughly resembles the size and layout of a Dreamcast pad. There's an analog stick at the top left, a D-pad at the lower left, two buttons (start and select) in the middle and four buttons (A, B and turbo versions of each) at the left. No shoulder buttons, though, and the space where a VMU would go is just a bulged-out block of plastic.

Oddly enough, the controllers appear to have wires -- I'd expect something portable to have a wireless pad.

I'm curious what architecture it's running -- an analog stick tells me that there's gotta be something relatively substantial in there.

I just don't have the cash (even with my employee discount) to buy one and find out.

Donations will be readily accepted, of course... :D

Could it be Nuon based?

Well, there is not much info on Polaroid's website about it, but based on what I am reading here (compatable with any TV with 1/4" inputs) It seems that it is one of those all in one controllers that they sell at the mall, and they are "throwing it in" with the DVD Purchase. It doesn't seem that the player itself has game playing capabilites.

So, umm, what does it have, crappy NES games or something in it, or are these new, original games?

All the box says is something like "30 exciting video games built in!" There's not even a screen shot -- the poor kid in the picture is having a hilarious time with a black screen. :hmm:

I suspect it's more on the order of the plug-and-play systems, but one never knows. (I don't know what company makes the Polaroid products, either -- that would probably help.)

Yay Polarvision! :D

I'll keep an eye on this. Better have a few good sidescrollers! Of course it won't. Probably just Galaxian ripoffs >_<

Personally, I'm waiting for clearance time after the Christmas season. :D

More info...from the Polaroid Electronics web site:

- Game controller is compatible with any video system with 1/4" A/V inputs

- Game controller is compatible with Polaroid portable DVD players via mini plug adaptor

So it's a plug-and-play, having nothing to do with the DVD player itself. That still doesn't tell us what the games are, though...

Also, the online PDF manual has not one word about the controller or its usage. :hmm:

I ran accross the Polariod DVD/Game system today for the first time in Target. It's after Christmas and they have not marked them down yet. Keep an eye out in your local Target.

Appears too good to be true... and it is. January 15, 2005

I purchased this item yesterday and the first player was defective. It had great sound but no picture. I returned it today and exchanged it for another. This one works but the movies will only play in Black and White. The games on it are for the mentality of a 2 year old. Not a good product. I plan on returning it and getting a different manufacturers product. I am dissapointed.

polaroid has made some really crappy stuff since going bankrupt about 5 years ago. i think they just rebrand crap from the asian market so it really doesnt have much to do with those instant cameras every family owned. i'd bet good money its just your standard famiclone multicart type games.
