I came across this program that would help organize video games.

Website:

I was wondering if anyone uses this and could recommend it?

I use it, if you're willing to put the money down for it it's a great program.

Just about every US game can be found searching in the databases, and if you can't find it, you can always add it yourself with a click of a button.

You can customize fields (I like noting if I have the box, manual and any other goodies), have cover arts, price paid, rating, date you bought the game, and so forth.

You can also export to HTML and a text file. Some people like to add alot to the html (You can have clickable links to the full info about each game) but I like to keep it very simple.

http://home.comcast.net/~vacrmhweb/videogames/videogames/gamelist.html

I still haven't gotten around to adding all of my info though <_<

Any questions I can answer?

I use it and I'd recommend it. Has a nice stats feature and is quite easy to configure, i.e. it lets you add custom fields for every item by which you may sort your list or display the stats graph etc. It also can generate a HTML table with specific fields you select.

looks cool is there anything like that for Macs?

So how often does it update?
Is the retro section (2600 in particular) accurate?

I am seriously thinking about buying it.

I'd say every couple weeks or a month or so for updates.

I'm honestly not sure about the retro section, I only have 1 2600 game <_<

The information comes from these databases...

Amazon US
Amazon UK
Amazon DE
Amazon JP
www.allgameguide.com

They used to have moby games, but they left :(

And if something is wrong, it's easily changeable, but I don't think you can add to the database, which is a shame.

So I am trying to get every cube game released, this wouldn't be a very good program? 1 update a month doesn't seem like I would be able to keep up with a current list.

I downloaded the Free Trial of this, and seems pretty cool. I think I am going to get it.

You can also add your own games manually which is just as easy.

Oh! I thought you were talking about the program! Sorry.

The databases where you get the info from are updated all the time, sometimes before the game is even out. Amazon is good about updating.

Go ahead and give the trial a shot if you'd like :)

If you are going to manually enter games, why not just put them into Access or something like that?

My personal list is in Access and then I built an ASP search engine front end, not unlike the DP Rarity Guide.

this program gives you a picture of the box, links to more info on allgameguid.com and soem other useful information, alll you do is either enter the barcode number or name of game and its console, it compiles a list of games that match the criteria and you choose which one is yours, the whol thing lliterally takes 20 seconds.

i use it and its pretty good, dunno if its worth the price they charge though. i use it to collect games NES and on, sometimes it cant find a picture of the box, but you can always add your own.

looks nice!

i coded my own gamelist with php/mysql which i use...since i really only need one for online purposes. i've been working on it and trying to get it fully dynamic for music, games, books, movies, whatever. i'm about 95% done if anybody is interested. (you will need a webserver with php/mysql or install apache and save to html)

Wow, Thanks for posting this topic! I downloaded the demo and it's very cool. IMHO it's well worth the money to save the time it would take to type it in yourself into access..

I had a crack of it to bad i updated and lost it :o . I only had it for 3 days but i had my whole collection added in there. With pictures of my own stuff.
I think there are better things you could use than that program though. Very inaccurate on alot of stuff. Mostly older.

I would recomend the site in my sig (twice)(www.rfgeneration.com) over anything, it is more accurate for alot of the info, real titles and alot of other stuff. It is constantly being updated also even alot of the "dead" consoles get new info added. If there is something missing you tell them and it gets fixed.
If you just want the most popular route try IGN. They have alot of things in there database that are terribly wrong, release dates, missing games, titles, etc etc. For example Barker Bills Trick Shooting(NES) is not in the database entered games Barker Bill and Trick Shooting.

This program uses a site called All Game Guide for all of its information. http://www.allgame.com. I'm not really familliar with this site so I can't really comment on its accuracy. It did however get the one izret101 mentioned correct..... (Barker Bills Trick Shooting(NES)) :)

Though I'm sure I've mentioned it before...

One of the modules we're adding to the DP Online Guide is the ability to track your collection. One of the many ongoing projects here - when there's a solid ETA you can be sure it will be posted here and rightly pimped to death :)

Very cool. Will this contain UPCs as well? That there is the number one most appealing factor of this program to me. I'm sure with all the people at this board, we can get a complete listing.

funnier is that the game is called Barker Bills' Trick Shooting. they have a game called Barker Bill and another one called Trick Shooting. i put trick shooting in my collection as well since it desribes what the game is more accurately for people who wouldnt know.

Like i said i use(d) www.rfgeneration.com , www.ign.com, Collectorz program and a spreadsheet. They each have their strong points but over all i would reccomend www.rfgeneration.com over them all, i would reccomend IGN last.

I tried the trial version.

NO I didn't like it.

Then again, my collection is heavy on imports. The program couldn't find a lot of the games, and it couldn't find a lot of the pictures for the games it could locate.

BUT it could be good for others.

If you have a lot of recent games for the current generation of consoles, this could be just the ticket! I keep mine on a crappy word document.

With the program you can scan images to add to you're collection.

I have mostly older games and it found all of them, except my Dot Gobbler cartridge for the C64, so far anyway...... I have few imports so I couldn't comment on that, however as previously mentioned you can add your own games and photos so no problems :)
