I was flipping through the most recent issue of Game Informer when I came across a review for a new rhythm/music type game called Technic Beat. It was one I'd heard mention of a while back, and it's name recently popped up in a thread here courtesy of zmweasel.
Based on what I read, it sounds like fun. The music in it features close to 85 tracks, with 34 of them derived from Namco games like Dig Dug, Xevious, Galaxian 3, and Rolling Thunder. Funny thing is, the game is not published or developed by Namco at all. Plus, it's one of the budget titles like Gungrave: Overdose...so it should be retailing for $15 or so. None of the major game chains list it on their websites, which begs the question: is this going to be tough to find eventually?
I hate to keep bringing up titles that I think might be OMG rare someday, but for some reason this title sticks out in my mind. It's a rhythm game, so the audience is niche right off the bat.
I don't think it's out yet, as Mastiff's site mentions it's release in mid October.

Hmmm, so is there a "set in stone" price yet? Also, is there any online sites offering pre-orders on it?

There were rhythm games like Parappa the Rapper that have tested gamers' abilities to tap along to the beat and then others like Amplitude messed this all up by throwing in some extra hand-eye coordination skills. Now, with Technic Beat, this all gets tossed in a Technicolor blender, jacked up on some serious drugs, and connected to some Puyo Puyo combo techniques that make all sorts of no sense at all.
HAHA!
Prepare to have a seizure.

This game sounds like a hoot, thanks for bringing it up. I watched the videos that Gamespot has posted, and the music seems to be quite catchy. I did a search at both EBGames and Gamestop and neither had any sale or even release information, which strikes me as odd.
You'd think if the release date was as soon as the 15th, it would at least appear as a "Coming Soon" title on major game sellers' respective websites. I'd like to hear if anyone has some more concrete information.

I'm thinking that the major sepcialty chains are going to pass on it.

That review POG listed was 5 months old, so I think this game may have been scrapped.
I did manage to find this though:

Technic beat for the PSP - Japanese.
Also, here's your namco answer:
"Technic Beat is a direct follow-up to the Japanese title, Technictics, which was released by Arika in Japan back in 2001. The next year saw Arika and Namco teaming up to release an expanded version of the game, complete with tracks from several popular Namco titles, in Japanese arcades."

From Mastiff's site:
Technic Beat
Create music, alter it, delay sounds, play songs backwards and change the pitch and chords.
Technic Beat offers players a twisted visual playground where rapid-fire, music-manipulating gameplay engrosses those of all skill levels.
It is expected to release mid October 2004.
Exclusively for PlayStation 2.
It states that Gungrave: Overdose has 'shipped early September 2004', so the site has been updated recently. I doubt they'd leave a canned game up on their main page, along with the other games they've done (like La Pucelle Tactics and Space Raiders).

My local Gamestop is taking orders for this and told me that it was going to retail for around $80 because it came w/ drums.

$80? what the hell? Donkey Konga and Taiko Drum Master both come with drums and don't cost more than $50-60. Those had better be some hella awesome drums for $80.
Anyways, it's still coming out, it's just been delay to november 3rd due to manufacturing delays. Here's a news link: http://ps2.ign.com/articles/556/556935p1.html
Damn, shin megami tensei was delayed along with it.

/me points out that Telegames, has had for well over a year on their site the "upcomming" releases of Santa Claus Saves The World and Soccer Kid. Both of which are completed and in the can, just not sent in for final authorization to Sony for the PSOne.
Either way, me wants this. Damn you Oob, stop making me want games that are going to cost me a fortune to aquire.

Is that Soccer Kid game that Telegames sitting on the same Soccer Kid that was released for the 3DO back in the day? That was actually a decent platformer.

October 13, 2004 - With Sony's manufacturing plants constantly backordered with games it's getting to be pretty common that games are getting pushed back just because they can't be made fast enough. The latest victim of this is Technic Beat, a quirky rhythm title from Mastiff Games that was originally supposed to be out last month. Instead, it has been pushed back to November 3 if all goes according to plan.
Technic Beat is not the only game to get pushed back by manufacturing delays. Other titles include Growlanser Generations and Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne have also seen delays from their original ship dates. It's not that the games aren't coming out at all, they will, but gamers will have to be patient this fall.
Excellent. :D

I really want this game, but I'm not sure if I'm gonna pay $80 for it. I read a review about it in the latest PSM and they said that the price couldn't be beat (didn't say what the price was though). So I'm guessing now that maybe it's another $15 or $20 price buster game. If it is I'll definately get it.

It's out!
Well, at least I know it's available at a couple od Gamestop stores around here. If you are getting from a GS store, you'll have to do some calling around, since not many stores got it in. Just 2 stores that I know of (out of 15) got it. Only $19.99, too.

So I'm guessing it's just the game itself (as in no drum controller)? I may have to pick this up if I can find it locally.
This goes to everyone: If you want a nice domestic PS2 drum game, then pick up Taiko Drum Master. It's awesome. 8-)

I just found this today. It rules. I don't know if any of you play Beatmania IIDX, but if you do, the song list will make you crap your pants.

That song list looks killer. Some of those songs are also on Taiko Drum Master (Dragon Spirit being a favorite of mine).
If anyone can track down a copy then I'd be willing to trade something for it. :(
