I have seen the pics of the new PS2, and find it to be quite interesting.

But in the pictures I've seen, it just looks like a really thin VAIO laptop.

It doesn't look like the actual footprint of the unit is that much smaller.

Does anybody know the actual dimensions of the unit?

Anybody got a link to pictures that have the old PS2 and new PS2 side by side to get a real comparison?

I really like the small PSone, because of it's super small footprint. I'm not so interested in my console being super thin, as I am it having a smaller footprint, and being very compact. Being thinner is definitely a bonus, but it should also have a smaller footprint as well.

By the way, how is the video and audio output handled on this new unit? Can you still get component video out of it?

Progressive scan video out of it?

DTS or Dolby Digital sound out of it?

Hmmm.

I heard that it only supports RF video out.

That would be stupid.

What you think the chances are that someone will have one of those external chips to play imports/burnz like the ol psx had.

Actually, I don't really believe in playing backups of games for systems that are currently in the retail channel. So I don't play any backups of PS2, XBOX or GameCube games.

As for old video game systems that are no longer in the retail channel, well, it's all gravy. But for systems that are still viable, it's a bad idea.

I support the video game industry, but the whole ebay used game industry can go to hell. Of course I'm a gamer and not a collector, so for people that are collectors, no offense.

This is an interesting comment, one that I definitely disagree with. But it probably deserves another topic, so as not to threadjack ...
