I want to get it very badly. I just don't like buying brand new games cause they tend to be very expensive. I know this one will stay at a high price so I will eventually have to buckle down and buy it. Let me know how it is once you get farther.

Do I need to play the original 64 game before this one? since it's a sequel and all?

The only question i have is why the hell does it say *best seller* on it? The game just came out.

Testament- Its the second game of the series, and being the first was a best seller it kinda makes sense. Im sure that's what they were talking about.

Superghouls- Nope, they don't have much to do with the other from what I know.

Ummmm.. paper mario didn't sell that good at all. It wasn't until later that it caught on. Maybe it (PM2) did good in japan?

I got Paper Mario 2. It's esentially the same thing as the N64 one with new stuff, like you can trun into a paper airplane. It's in a new land, and so far it doesn't seem like a sequeal, so you probably don't need to play the first one.

Damn, I was planning on getting it yesterday, on release day, but am a little short of money for this month. I don't like RPG's at all, but it's Mario so have to get it.
But, I will say that I LOVE the Mario RPG series though!!! Anyways, I would have usually picked it up already so hopefully will be able to get it by the end of the week!!!!!!! I CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY IT!

Oh yeah, this title won't really go down too much in price probably not for another year. Since it's a nintendo title, and they don't go down too fast. I mean 1080 for the GC just went down in price recently.

I played it a while ago. Good game (and yes, it sold fantastically in Japan). I never played the N64 version, and did just fine.

Yup, a sequel to Paper Mario for the N64, which was supposedly (I never played it, so I'm not completely sure) a sequel to Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (which booted quite the massive amount of human hindquarters, a.k.a. it kicked ass).

I need to get this game, but it looks like I'm waiting for a holiday (or the kindness of strangers... and I love you guys. :embarrassed: ).

Super Mario RPG is a classic. Wonderfull game, one I just played back through a little while ago. It was a joint project between Nintendo and Square where Square made the game engine and the music while Nintendo worked on the gameplay and the charcters. Released in 1996, it showed the SNES could still do very well late in it's life and the game was a huge seller.

It was also the last game Square made for a Nintendo system until they returned to the GBA and GC eariler this year.

Paper Mario for the N64 was also a late system release -- I want to say 2000 is when it came out. And yes, it's the 'sequel' in spirt to Super Mario RPG. Early in it's life it was called Super Mario RPG II. But there's really not much in common between them. I like the game, but I enjoyed SMRPG a bit more.

I got Paper Mario 2 on Tuesday and have been enjoying the hell out of it. I'm currently right near the beginning of chapter 3.

Damn, for some stupid reason I didn't know that game didn't come out until '96. I know it sold well, but like you said, it came out as the snes life on the stores shelves was fading.
Same thing for Paper Mario, came out when the N64's life was dying on the current store shelves.
The two game NEVER REALLY got a good chance at selling like they should have. Espically paper mario. So hopefully that will change with this GC title, so we can see more mario rpg's in the future.

The only question i have is why the hell does it say *best seller* on it? The game just came out.

Theres word going around that there are two cover variants for the game (one with the best seller and one without). People are assuming that its on there to simulate stickers put on book covers, since paper mario is like a storybook. Also, I've heard that the ones that say best sellers are harder to find, so consider yourself lucky.

Our whole store is filled with best sellers hehehe

Also worth mentioning that Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga for the GBA is the third game in the "series"

I can't get excited about this game... you sit there doing 1 or 2 damage with your normal attack... the entire game... sure you get special attacks that consume special points, but those do... up to about 5 or 6 points max... your normal attack never gets stronger, your party is always you and one other character, and those other characters also never really level up... well they do, but it's only twice in the game during scripted events with conditions you need to fulfill.

Maybe rent it, or buy it when it gets cheap (say, 2009)

I also noticed that the new Kirby game, (I can't remember the name) has the same "best seller" logo on the front.
