View Full Version : MAME emulation on any consoles like X-BOX?

I am not normally into emulation because I prefer to have the real deal system, as using the original hardware and controllers.....nothing feels like it :) But I had this thought today after reading EGM magazine ad about the new TMNT game, which has an unlockable TMNT Arcade Game (which in this case I would like to have this unlockable but really do not care about the new game)....MAME! Arcade games... Any consoles support smooth emulation of these? (Note: I am not sure if MAME is still the 'choice' anymore as far as emulators and arcade games go, as I only briefly dabbled in those things a few years back, mainly to to download ROMs of NES games I have that I figured the batteries would die on (like RPGs). I don't see myself having umpteen number of machines in my house, but some ROMs of games and perhaps an arcade stick like that big thing they have at GameStop to play them on.
???
I am sorry if this is in the wrong forum or if this isn't allowed. Just thought I'd say that beforehand.

Yeah, Xbox can do great MAME emulation (except for games that require alot of RAM, or newer 3d games like Tekken) as well as pretty much perfect NES, SNES, NeoGeo, NGPC, Gaeboy, Lynx, Genesis, TG16, SMS, 2600 and more. Most support HDTV and digital sound, save states, lightguns and 4 players. You'd have to mod it and put a bigger hard drive in it to hold everything.

There are a number of different ports of MAME to the Dreamcast. Specifically, you'll probably want to look for something known as the "wowpack"... the Dreamcast is kinda slow though, so not all the games run full speed (most of the early 80's stuff is all good though, and that's what MAME is all about anyways).

XBox: Best all around for emulation.
PS2: Not bad, but you have to burn CD's with ROMs (instead of Xbox's HD)
Dreamcast: Not bad for most older systems.

The XBox is definately your best bet for emulation, though it can be kind of costly to have the system modded (unless you do it yourself). If you are going to go the console emulation route, do yourself a favor and pick up and X-Arcade Stick (http://www.x-arcade.com) with appropriate console adapter, a little pricey, but definately the best sticks.

MAS sticks are far better. So are Hori sticks.

doesn't Kawak-X have a fun little stopping point where you can play the games though? Like Last Blade 1 works but LB2 won't even show up on the list?
...or do you have a hacked version? :P

dc emulation is good. it runs many of the newer games a litle slow, but runs older games perfect.
