Earlier today a person very dear to me passed away after a long fight with cancer. I credit him with for giving me my love of video games and unbeknownst to him a love for video game RPGs (by giving me Final Fantasy & Legend of Zelda on the NES). He was a fan of Atari having bought both the 2600 and 5200 the day they were released. I remember us going to Sears every week just to see if the 2600 had been released. LOL

He played FPS games mostly but always had a fondness for the card games that come with Windows. Why do I bother with a post about someone nobody knows? Consider it a release for me.

That really sucks to hear. I am sorry for your loss. Just remember that they are never truly gone as long as you remember them. :(

Man I am so sorry for the tragedy. :( I know what it is to loose loved ones THAT close and it took me a bit to even be able to even cry about it because I denied it happened.

The loss of a loved one is never easy. All I can tell you is what I was told. Remeber the good times you shared with them and cherish them dearly. Its not much of a comfert, but as long as you have that, you will always have a part of them. I apologize if this helps little.

..........................

Many people have died this year. I am shattered to hear your father join the ranks of the fallen... he lived a good life, I trust, and the support of his son made it all the more worthwhile. The gaming community has suffered quite the loss... may he rest in peace for eternity.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. My father is the one who got me into gaming too. Many of the Atari 2600 carts I still own are ones he and I went and bought together. I'm sure right now is a hard time, but maybe when you feel like it I and I'm sure others would love it if you shared one of you and your dad's gaming stories.

I am very sorry to hear your dad passed. My mom passed away from cancer in '99, so I do know what it's like. I pretty much had the same relationship with her. If you ever need an open ear, I'm always here my friend.

Sorry to hear about your father. I have a similar relationship with my Dad. He introduced me to videogames with our first intellivision. Which we still play today when I go to visit him. Your post makes me understand how lucky I still am. Sorry for your loss.

Thanks everyone for the support, the replies have been great. Flack mentioned about hearing one of my gaming stories and I've got two that stand out to this day. Both are related to the 5200 system.

Star Raiders - if you took too much damnage in the game you would lose your crosshairs so it was much harder to target enemy ships.
My Dad's solution - Trace the crosshairs with a black marker on the tv screen. LOL

Countermeasure - Driving from Fayetteville Arkansas to Tulsa Oklahoma (at that time about 2-3 hour drive) just to buy this game because he didn't want to wait on the stores in Fayetteville to get a copy in. :)

That was my Dad when it came to a game he wanted - Time & money didn't matter.

Cancer....man, that's really too bad. I hope our words here help you in your way to feel better about things, little as our words may seem. My mom worked in the cancer ward of a local hospital here for 14 years, and I know how difficult the disease is on everyone, and I'm sorry you are having to feel that way. Hopefully, you and your family will find peace in this time. Best wishes.
