So my computer crashed and took my ghetto access game inventory with it. Anyone design a nice database to store all their info? I've tried out the Game Collectorz one, and it doesn't seem to keep track of hardware at all. Cart Commander is ok, just wondering if there are any home brewed databases out there that people might share.

Yea I read that topic a while ago. The two commercial products they list I listed as not really suiting my needs. I was wondering outloud if anyone has finished their own inventory prog that wouldn't mind sharing...Or it's back to the drawing board for me. I'm sure I could whip up a php/sql thingie that would work fine...

We have plans. Big plans, I'm too far under water to build it jsut right now, but it's definitely in the pipes as are trade and want lists.

You could use Microsoft Access, but there is a good learning curve to create your own database....it is very thorough though, in my experience.

Good deal SF I look forward to it. Let me know if I can help out any, I have some college level programming skills and a lot of scripting experience.

morphx...you can check out my DB here:
http://benjaminknowles.com/games/
I built it using PHP and MySQL...been toying around with the idea of making it a multi-user...it's easy to add new systems, etc....the behind the scenes database entry is all managed through a web browser with a pull down menu for all the game companies (publisher, developer), a pull down menu for the "bought from" field and condition fields (1-10). As you add new companies, you can enter URLs for that company's website. You can also add links for the game.
As it stands now it's mostly retro systems (I don't own any current gen systems except GBA and DC) and am not going to buy any new systems, but the database can easily accept as many systems as you throw its way.

I'm very close to finishing my php/sql script. probably within the week.
it can create any type of list, movies, games, music, books, beanie babies, whatever. there is a set of fields to choose from, or you can make your own custom fields from the start.
there is a delete option, an editing feature (which loads up all current info and allows you to change an entry), and a few display options.
often used entries like 'SEGA GENESIS' or rarity, are stored into a dropdown menu for you automatically, so save some typing.
here's and idea of what the edit/add new page looks like:

you can look at my tradelist to see what the final list will look like. (i plan on adding a few different sytle sheets for users who want a different color scheme...or can make your own)
