Sega announced Sega Classic Collection for PlayStation 2 in US, a compilation of 10 classic Sega titles, previously released under the Sega Ages 2500 series in Japan. Sega Classic Collection will include remakes of Alien Syndrome, Bonaza Bros, Columns, Decathlete, Fantasy Zone, Monaco GP, OutRun, Space Harrier, Tant-R and Virtua Racing.

That's awesome, but what the hell is Tant-R? Anyway, I'm glad they're releasing those here. I'm especially excited about fantasy zone. They really should have added an alex kidd game in there though. Perhaps it would have revived some interest in the kidd.

By the way, you can find out some more info on these games if you search these forums and look for Sega Ages, especially with author Flack who has reviewed a few of them here.

Here's another good thread about the series:

Since these are the Sega Ages ports, you aren't missing much. Golden Axe seemed like quite a disappointment.

The lack of Golden Axe and AfterBurner is disheartening. Maybe they will give us a volume two.

Nice, I had been wondering what games were going to be included...

Not only is this coming out, but Phantasy Star Trilogy with remakes of 1,2 and 4... for $20 O.o

That's great news, but it will be even greater if the price tag is kept below $30.00. ;)

No Gain Ground? I'm not sure what I'd think of that and Alien Syndrome, but it doesn't really matter since I've got multiple copies of each anyhow.

The games I'd be most interested in are the Phantasy Star games, and...well, that's probably about it. The closest thing I own to Tanto-R would be Bonanza Bros (x68K port), but I know where to pick up a copy for the Mega Drive, so it's all good.

These will all be seperate releases, yes?

I've looked through the recent Magic Box news archives and I don't see any mention. The old 10.01 release date still stands on their list, too, so what's new?

Can't wait for that one. :-P Tought are you sure 2 and 3 well even be on it? Sega claims they are remaking PS 2 and 4, but so far i haven't seen a dawn thing. :o

"These will all be seperate releases, yes?"

Did you read the thread? The answer is no, they're being put together on to one package.

IGN list Golden Axe along with 10 other games for it, but says it will include 10 games in the same news article. So who knows.

Also they say its going to include the original versions of each as well, so as long as they don't screw it up, doesn't matter if the redone versions suck.

Nothing's changed on this since it was originally announced. As places like GameSpot, IGN, Conspiracy, etc., have said, it will include Phantasy Star: Generation 1, Phantasy Star II, and Phantasy IV: End of the Millennium.

Remakes or ports?

For $20, I highly doubt they're actually remaking 3 lengthy RPGs... but then again for ports why not just include PS3 too?

Although a remake in the vein of the Wonder Boy in Monster World remake on Genesis would be ungodly wonderful :)

Still have you seen anything on 2 and 4? The collection is supposed to come out in january 05 but 2 and 4 aren't even out yet in japan, and i still never seen an actually screne shot of either of them.

I don't think we'll ever see such a thing. Wonderboy is a Westone property and they've been rather quiet for 10 years now. Even their website is a shadow of its formerly glorious self.

I'd like to see what they'd do to Alex Kidd.

I've spent the last half hour researching this, and I can only come up with one solution. The-magicbox is wrong.

I cannot find a credible source to back that list up. The only news story I can find is from Conspiracy Entertainment's original press release on May 27th, 2004. There is absolutely no mention of any titles other than the ones listed below.

The massive PS2 DVD compilation will include a minimum of 10 Sega arcade classics including: Space Harrier, Golden Axe, Columns, and Outrun.

That's, right, Conspiracy Games is doing this, not Sega. Sega has nothing to do with this, and no mention of this compilation anywhere on their website, further degrading the credibility of this article.

There is indeed an additional Sega Ages: Phantasy Star Triliogy slated for A January release.

If someone can point out otherwise, please do. I would definitely like to see a compilation listing.

Now, how come Sega still hasn't issued their own press release?

That's not what I meant at all... took that really out of context :P

I mean it would be awesome to see a remake of Phantasy Star 2 that isn't just a graphical translation, but adds new content, just like Wonder boy in Monster Land for the Genesis which was a remake of the SMS version

Thanks for the heads up, but no. I was searching for "Sega Ages." "Sega Classics" brings up a variety of other irrelevent stuff.

This still begs one question though, why no press release from Sega?

I read the thread and I found it questionable.

In Japan, all these games are being sold *seperately,* one to a disc.

You'll have to excuse my skepticism - I think it's warranted.

Because Sega hasn't posted one yet? Or they're slow to update their site.

Sony told Conspiracy a year ago they had to since the original plan was individual releases.

Hasn't changed since, Sony won't approve these titles individually.

At an otherwise uneventful press event held yesterday in San Francisco, Sega announced (from the first article linked in Leo_Ames' post)

Wouldn't that constitute a press release?

Now the original Sega Ages 2500 series - they just came with the game and a lot of blank space on the disc was left over? If they came with bonuses, I can imagine for a single-disc release - Snip!

Also, I really hope that Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star) gets released in America.

There was also a Hokuto no Ken game for the Sega Mark III in Japan (the MD version was Hokuto no Ken 2). Which is the Sega Ages game a remake of?

Actually, Wonderboy is a Sega property in terms of name, characters, and bosses. Westone has rights only to the actual games themselves, hence the releases on other consoles.
