I´m thinking on getting one, but I have some questions that need answers. Maybe I´ll add some questions later :D

What are the pros-cons about this?
Are there adapters to play japanese hu-cards on the turbografx and viceversa?
What are some good games to get? What genres are the best?

Cons for owning a system? Never heard of one. Oh it takes up space!

It seems that the Turbografx´s best genre is the shoot´em-up, right? Any other good genre?

The cost of the system itself seems to be getting higher. Its why i'm sticking to Genesis/MegaDrive.

I was looking into getting a PCE or TG16 to play stuff like Legendary Axe and Splatterhouse. Even Bonks. This system has some good platformers.

The TG 16 version of Splatter house is not as good as the arcade version they took out a lot.

Oh another great game Air Zonk.

Yes there are addapters that let Pc Engine cards play on the TG 16.

Adapters are too expensive. Get a Duo and have it modded.

Genesis Systems are about $15. I've never seen a TG-16 or PCE System for less than $40...

Is there anyway to get one for less? I mean I got a Genesis/SegaCD for 45, the Duos are 100+!

Well, price doesn´t matter. In fact, last year I almost bought a boxed Turbografx with R-Type for 120$ LOL

I matters to me :bawling:

As for as I understand, the TG-16/PCE is good for shooters, ok for platformers/sidescrollers. It has a couple good CD RPG's too.

But The only thing I'm familiar with are platformers.

I´d be interested on a Turbografx mainly. Cd games would be difficult to get here (Europe). Can any european prove me wrong? :)

The shooters are all awesome, that's true. But I happen to really dig almost anything Hudson was involved in with that system. This includes the out there stuff (Crater Maze, Chew Man Fu, Dungeon Explorer) and the ports of other classic games (Lode Runner).

I don't know if anyone has really come out and said this yet, but if you're gonna get one MAKE SURE YOU GET A CD ATTACHMENT of some kind, and make sure it's got at least a System 2.0 bios with it. You'll be missing out if you don't. Most of the RPG's that came to America on the CD drive are phenomenal, particularly the Y's series. You can also get Dracula X for it, and the Japanese games play on the US units without any converters or modding.

Though it's got a small number of games, a "genre" worth looking into on this system is all the pinball games; IMHO they're the best pinball games ever made.

Military Madness is worth the cost of the system alone...I also love the Zelda clones Neutopia 1 and 2. Devil's Crush is the best pinball game I've ever played. Blazing Lazers is one of the best shooters I've played. It's a great system.

After seeing your avatar I know why do you like Miitary Madness LOL I´ll probably get only a turbografx, because CD games cost too much, and now I can´t afford a Duo (I saw one yesterday with Space Harrier, Paranoia and Y´S IV for 180$). Maybe at the future I´ll bought a Turbografx CD.

Any good two player games?

Since no one seems willing or able to mention this to you: by far the biggest con of owning this system is that stuff is extremely difficult to come by in the wild (assuming you are in North America). It's a great system, but you'll be doing most of your purchasing online.

I'll chime in here and say TG16 systems can be found for less than $40....hell I have a spare right now I'd let go for less than that.

The games are a BITCH to find outside of online resources and trading.

The CD system is worth the price of admission, but I as well would recommend going the Duo route. You can get Duos as low as $150 (and occasionally $100...I've been known to sell them that low when I have spares now and again) and you save a TON of money that way. Then all you need is a mod or a convertor to be able to play pretty much everything.

CD games are easy to get pretty much everywhere online, unless you want the rarer US titles. Rare TG16/Duo games are even harder to find than rare Neo Geo AES titles. Trust me...it takes some WORK.

If you need more info, just ask. There are tons of good shooters, some great platformers, and a COUPLE decent RPGs.

Back in the day I bought my TG16 for one reason... Alien Crush, really cool pinball game. I later found Devil's Crush, it kicks even more booty. Splatterhouse comes in a close second. Then you got Blazing Lasers, excellent shooter. Nothing "you haven't played before," but the 4th level with the brains rocks. Geez, now I need a fix!

I live on Spain, where the Turbografx and about 50 games were released. They are somewhat difficult to find, but between them and American released games I´ll have enough to choose(I think) Too bad I couldn´t play japanese games if I don´t get a PC-Engine... What a dilemma :o

I have three questions more: What are some good multiplayer games? What are the best CD games? Is Rondo of Blood worth 120$ ?

BTW, thanks to all who answered my questions :)

Yeah, it'd be harder in Spain. However it's still possible.

IMO, Rondo of the Blood REALLY is worth the $120 or so. Occasionally you can get it for around $80 sans spine. I paid $200 for mine when the price was much higher on it and I STILL don't regret it. It's THE best Castlevania.

As for other multiplayer games, I highly recommend:

Military Madness
Dungeon Explorer
Dungeon Explorer 2
Bomberman '93
Bomberman '94
Buster Bros.

Those are just a few off the top of my head. DE2 is VERY spendy tho...like $80+ on the average.
