Hi All.Im jumping on after just getting my new slim ps2.The new model.I was trading in games and asked if they had new ps2s in stock. They said yes.I was talking about just a regular new ps2.Mine broke and i was wanting a new one.But anyways they brought out a new slim ps2.And said it was the only one in stock. So I jumped.I am now the proud owner of a new model ps2.Only problem is I cannot post pics for anyone.Photobucket isnt accepting new members. So if someone can host them or tell me about another site Ill post them for all.
Thanks,
Dillon

Wait.. so it's TRUE?

I had a customer come in yesterday and ask me if we got them in stock. I said they aren't out yet. She INSISTED someone had one and sold it already so they were out. I sent her to GameStop and thought to myself, "She has to be mistaken. Wait until she gets to GS and finds out the truth."

So, I need Pictures. I want one so bad! I would have gone out today but didn't think there was a chance of the woman being right. I don't think I can hold out another two weeks.

Well.. Pictures! Upload to a site that doesn't suck.

Someone else confirm this.

We got in 1/2 the needed amount for pre-orders yesterday (they're not supposed to 'released' till Friday). I was the first to put the hate-on and after holding it in my hands...

that little bastard will be mine.

eventually.

They even pulled a page out of Nintendo's book by lining up the system with an "actual size" picture of it.

So sexy.

Except I still hate that damn band on it!

More should be rolling into the states within the next two weeks.

: )

WHEN is it SUPPOSED to be out? I'd been telling people November 1st.

I can't believe they're out already. I gotta find one NOW! Well.. Damn.. Can't tomorrow. Can't Saturday. Can't fucking Sunday. DAMN WORK! Not until Monday at which point, they'll all be gone unless by some stroke of luck our store gets some in.

They are suppose to sell for the usual 149 that all the PS2's are currently selling at.

If I remember correctly, the street date that I heard kicked around, was 10/24 for these. But its in Sony's best interest to get them out as soon as possible, because of the general lack of PS2's in the market. So they come out a week early. Yeah for us.

Sony made that lack of PS2s on the market because of their plans to release the slim models.

or it could be that everyone who owns a ps2 has bought at least one replacement....

I was told that the first shipment was next week; I've got one in the second preorder shipment at my local store, which is "late october/early november". That EB $100 trade in is fantastic - It's 110 if you have the Network Adapter and discs like me, so it's really something. 40 bucks for an upgrade to a miniPS2 with a new warranty? Count me in.

(It seems nuts that I dropped over 300 on this machine a few years ago, doesn't it?)

I never thought I'd say this, but I can't wait to get my PSTwo. :D

Maybe I'm just lusting after a new piece of hardware to play with, but I don't think I've wanted one more than I do now.

I will be retiring my PSX to the top shelf. Making some more room by also retiring one of my Genesis' and looking out for a Power Base Converter so I can retire the SMS.

I just don't get it. Why are magazines still advertising the Final Fantasy game with the hard drive included? I mean, IT WON'T FIT! I see the bundles new in many stores. What, you buy a new PS2 and FF only to discover FF won't work with the redesigned model? Why, Sony?

If I have a PS2 already... why do I want this?

The extra 2" of height is lost by the fact that I have to flip the top open, so now I can't have anything directly above it.

Are you peeps who are really excited about this excited because you didn't own the "old" PS2 or something else?

I'm thinking that just like the PSOne, the PSTwo will be an easier import mod, with a flip top making it possible to import without internal mods even. I don't know for certain but I'd love to check out some of those JP PS2 games.

Yup, they're out. Saw them at Future Shop (Best Buy) yesterday.

Since I don't have one yet, I'll probably go for this model, especially since space is an issue. I don't really care about whether it's a tray-loader or a top-loader, since I don't have the space to put it on top of the VCR and digital cable box, and I don't care for modding either. Its size is what's convenient for me.

Question for people who have the PSTwo: are the issues regarding FF Anthology and Chronicles solved? If that's the case, I might just give my PSOne away to my best friend (who's suddenly Playstation-less since she broke up with her boyfriend last week).

Dangerboy
10-15-2004, 09:45 AM
I doubt it. In fact, in th eoriginal press release, Sony admitted that there might even be PS2 games that are now not compatible with it.

Though, given the scope...I'd figure that's just FFXI and parts of the HDD compatible games. I don't think they'ed spend the money to figure out how to fix one screen in a PSX game.

Also, Considering FFXI pretty much flopped in terms of what people were hoping it to do (I still have about 4 of the original 10 we got on launch day chilling in the back room), Sony probably figured it was best both to cut their losses from lack of sales and HD Loader users.

That thing is going to look itty bitty next to my Wega....maybe now it'll make my TV look bigger LOL

Besides that, it looks koll.

I'm amazed how excited you guys are about the thing and buy it right away! Don't get me wrong, I'll get one, too, the size of the redesigned PS2 is fantastic, but I'll get one in two years when the price significantly dropped.

You are all over the thing like it were a new game system. :)

I have two PS2s already, there is no way I'll buy the redisigned one for $150.

It seems Sony can do whatever they want, they are successful; like money in election campaigns, Sony always finds a way.

I don't have a PS2, and if I were to get one, my plan would be to wait and get the 'new revision' that always seems to pop up when you give a platform enough time. NES, SNES, Genesis, Saturn, Playstation- they're smaller and likely to have addressed the hardware issues.

Personally to me, the flip top lid is much more attractive than the slide out drawer because I have more confidence in not scratching the disc by popping it in myself.

Holy shit! That thing is small.@_@ Sometimes you can go to Wal-Mart and get some games and what not before they hit shelves. Cause my older brother got Need For Speed: Underground like a week before it was suppose to come out. And I saw the new "Retro" NES GBASPs at Wal-Mart a couple of days before they were suppose to hit shelves.

I would buy the PsTwo because I never did buy a PS2....

(I just got my first PSOne about 2 weeks ago... LOL)

It seems I have chosen a different path over the years.. Tg16 -> Jaguar -> Saturn -> DC -> GCN ..

Not goin' to Vegas anytime soon... ;)

I still don't have a Playstation 2, and I'd actually prefer the original unit were I to buy one. Through this thread I've gathered you cannot use the hard drive with the new model, and I'm guessing other capabilities have been removed as well. Historically, revised consoles lose various ports and functionalities; I assume this case is no different.

Of course, by the time I'm ready to spend $$ for one, the original model will be unavailable. I think it i salready.

Who here is only excited to get a new PSTwo just so that they can retire the venerable PS2 into it's box and put it on display like all venerable respected systems should be?

As long as the Two has the built in network adapter, PS2 can go into it's box, which took up just as much space with or without PS2 inside.

I'm getting one and am excited about it because I don't have a PS2 of my own. My brother has the old kind. A 50001 model. And I'd rather have a totally different design if I'm going to get a second one. This one is perfect.

I'm just glad I've got two of the original PS2 models, since the new PStwo model aren't going to have the iLink ports. So no more Unreal Tournament or Armored Core or Gran Turismo two-television iLink deathmatches.

But I'll be glad to pick up one of the (undoubtedly better engineered ) PStwo units when they drop to, yes, $49.99. Then I won't have to worry as much about the dreaded DREs with my PS2s.

Quick ?? about the new slim PSTwo, I've heard of this system not been able to play some early PS2 games, plus getting overheated easily and quickly, any of you who got it recently experienced those?

I've just sold my regular PS2 online pack for the same price I paid before Xmas, I was planning to get a slim PSTwo later, but judging from what I've heard, I may be holding this thing off til price drop to $99 (or even lower) or even waiting til PS3 (should the system be compatible with PS2 games) arrives, by the time they should have the bugs fixed, if not, I may just sell all of my PS2 games altogether, most are still sealed to begin with.

One reason I despise Sony, their systems fail easily, so you buy replacement, thus artificially inflated the install base in the long run.

What I've heard is that the slimmie's don't play blue discs at all. Can anyone verify this? Planning on trading in my chugbox tomorrow and I'm worried I might be getting screwed into buying an overheating, non-disc reading piece of karp.

Which games have the blue discs and why did they stop using them?

sirgeoph
12-15-2004, 03:28 AM
any game that has the CD-ROM logo on the back of the box is a blue disc. any game with the DVD-ROM logo is a silver disc.

The only reason fewer games are using blue discs is because fewer games will fit on a CD -- most need a DVD.
