Are you sure you installed the monitor properly? You may have put it in upside down. LOL

on dip switch set 2, switch 1, is the switch to "flip picture" maybe you need to hit that?

yea yea...i should have figured a comment like that was coming....
yea, the monitor is in correctly (ie, circuit board down, suction cup on top of tube up)
as for the dip switch....i guess ill have to try and find that.....
thanks for the advice

ahhaha...its alright....
but, yea, i looked up the manual and figured out how to flip the picture
picture is rolling....needs a new POT, working on that now
then the cab doesnt have sound for some reason.....and ideas on the sound now that the monitor is mostly working again

This is just a wild shot in the dark, but it sounds like either your monitor or your sound is working, but not both. Maybe the power supply isn't able to keep up with both and is faulty?

i think i read somewhere that the electrohome G07 (monitor i have that is rolling) will roll if it doesnt have enough power....is that possible, or did i not read that and just think i did
i think the next step is to get a new power supply.....
best place to get a good cheap one with the cheapest shipping, any ideas???

I think they're $20-$30 shipped priority mail? Haven't checked in a LONG time. Of course, ebay has them new too, just make sure someone doesn't try to pawn off a CPU PS on you.

The power supply doesn't feed any voltage to the monitor. That should come off the line cord through the isolation transformer (on most games)
My suggestions without knowing what you have already done are:
Check the 12V at the power supply since that is usually just for the audio amps.
Check the volume pot to make sure it is working.
Check all the wiring for audio including the pins the audio comes out on the PCB.
Try a different boardset if it is JAMMA to confirm the cabinet wiring/etc is good.
Anything beyond that and I would start looking at board repairs.

alright...here is everything that has been done to this machine and where it stands now....(help still needed)
ok..brought it home for $60 from Super Auctions....no sound and crappy control response.
ordered a new Jamma wiring harness off of ebay and got that all wired up $18
sound was back and working, but i didnt have time to rewire the controls bc i had to go back to school.
my dad was playing it with the shitty controls just to see what it was like....original monitor dies (crack in tube, nothing could be done to save the tube, chasis saved)
new (used monitor) purchased for $15....put in machine, but my father couldnt get a picture....brought it back and exchanged it for another new (used monitor) ......
put this second monitor in...electrohome g07 .... picture was upside down and rolling ... changed dip switch....picture right side up and rolling...adjusted vertical hold....would come close to not rolling, but then would start rolling again....replaced the POT for the vertical hold....still rolling (during both these new monitors -- no sound)
took that monitor out of the cabinet and used a spare tube i had with a bad chasis and a spare chasis i had with a bad tube to make 1 working monitor -- put that in, no picture and no light at the neck of the tube -- still no sound
so, as it sits, we have 2 monitors we can put in...neither works and we have no sound
i would buy a new power supply, isolator, or whatever i needed, but i dont want to buy stuff that wont fix the problem....hopefully someone can tell me where to go from here

Well the first thing I would do if it is an old monitor is put in a cap kit for it. That solves a bunch of problems plus will just prolong the life of the used monitor you have. I make it a habit to do for every machine I plan on keeping. Bob Roberts has them but I do not have his site available to me at the moment to give you the URL.
As for the sound if it was working I would go with the troubleshooting I mentioned earlier then go from there.
If needed I can probably get you a cheap POW boardset that is known working to plug in and see how that works. Let me know through PM if you are interested.

maybe it will help get my other game working

C'mon now you should know I wouldn't gouge him on that boardset. Now if he wants a Simpsons or TMNT or the like it would be a little more :)
If anyone else needs any boardsets, feel free to PM or email me about them as I have quite a few available since I'm cleaning out the garage. No Galagas or Pac-Man etc but some good stuff regardless.

Yup I remember having 2-3 of them. I received quite a few PMs and emails. Let me get through this weekend and sort out what I have available. I'm willing to sell tested boardsets for a fair value - untested for quite a bit less. Untested by the way means exactly that from me. I won't take the time to test them and you take your chances. It doesn't mean I sell you a known bad board or one missing pieces. I have yet to have a complaint from anyone buying boards from me and don't intend to start now :)
Everyone please let me go through my boardsets and get a list together and I will PM everyone back and work out trades and sales with all. I will give preference to trades since I am in the market for Atari computer carts, Vic and C-64 carts, Infocom original gray box games and ok pretty much anything :)
Thanks for understanding about the delay,
Alan

alright...
i have tried various monitors in this cabinet...
i have also tested a different jamma board in the cabinet
i have also changed some of the caps that looked like they could be bad on the monitor
i have also changed the POT on the vertical hold on the monitor
as it stands now....the monitor is the correct direction, nice picture, but it continues to roll and i dont know how to get it to stop
also, there is still no sound and with the board you sent me AlanD there was no sound either and the picture rolled
so, im guessing there is something wrong with the monitor, the pcb, or the wiring
the jamma harness that was originally with this game was changed out for a new harness that i got off ebay....with the original harness there was no sound....the new harness fixed the sound problem, but then the neck of the monitor blew out and cracked...when i got a used monitor to put it the pic rolled and i was back to no sound
any ideas what i can do to try and correct the assortment of problems i am having

I would check the sync and ground lines going to the monitor. That will cause nasty rolling that you just can't get rid of.
As for the sound I would just check the wires heading to the speakers. JAMMA boards don't (usually) have external amps so there really is nothing to break on sound except the board, speaker or wiring.

alright...my dad is gonna go over all the wires on the monitor again tomorrow
as for the sound, he said he can hear static coming out of the speaker when the pot is turned up, but that there are no game sounds playing

I'll go ahead and put in my two cents on this one. As AlanD said, check the sync wiring to the monitor. A lot of monitors use negative and positive sync. JAMMA uses composite sync. Make sure that both Sync wires (if there are 2) from the monitor go to the one sync wire from the JAMMA harness.

Some cabs require +5, +12, AND -5 for sound.
Might want to re-check that.

True as well as making sure how the two speakers are hooked up. I had a cabinet with really weird sound that had two speakers using the two lines as hots and then grounding the speaker on the other leg. Made for weird sound when the two channels were the same. It's a thought of something to check but admittedly not likely

this cabinet only has 1 speaker in it....it isnt missing one...there is only one speaker hole in the cabinet...so, its how it originially should be
I had a G07 on my Roadblasters that wouldn't lock the sync, I installed a cap kit on it, and it locks great now, so don't rule out the cap kit. Do you know for sure that you connected the wires correctly when you installed the new monitor? Some require you to connect the composite syncs to both vertical and horizontal, while others require only connected to one or the other (don't remember which ATM), but will cause problems locking the sync if it's connected to both (I've had both types of these monitors, although I was thinking it was some of the newer Wells Gardners that only wanted it connected to one).
Oh, and for sound, a trick that I do to tell whether the amp on the PCB is working is to touch the bottom of the amp (on the solder side), and if the speakers start popping and buzzing, then the amp is working, and your audio signal isn't getting sent to the amp (depending on the game, usually caused by bad audio CPU, usually z80's are the fault, although broken traces can cause this too)

There's always the easy soultion, call the $60 (plus expenses) a lesson, toss it, and get another machine!! :D No, seriously, sounds like these guys have suggested everything I could think of, but if I come up with anything else, I'll let you know.
