Welcome to this week's Monday Morning MAME Club Posting. Every Monday, a member of the MAME club will pick a new game for you to play in MAME! All you have to do to participate is install MAME, download the ROM of the week from this message, and then post your thoughts about the game! You can post a full review of the game or simply tell us what you liked/didn't like about the game. Have you played this game before? Have you played it in an actual arcade? Do you like the genre? How did it run on your computer? Did you beat it? If so, how long did it take? What was your high score? How far can you get? Did you have any problems emulating the game? When writing your review, post it right here in the sticky topic and include any thoughts you have about the game. Remember, YOU are the reviewer. Let us know anything and everything you think about the game! Just remember, if you want people to respond during YOUR week, you should play along on OTHER weeks!

The ROM of the week is: WWF Superstars (available HERE (http://www.robohara.com/mameclub)!)

I love this game. I have a JAMMA cab running it already, so the hell with MAME, I'm going to play the real thing all week. LOL

Awesome! sniperCCJVQ (who picked the game) told me HE has this game as well -- apparently it's most popular than I knew. Anyone ELSE own this game? :)

It's a high quality, fun, and most importantly CHEAP JAMMA board. I got mine for $20. That's probably why a lot of people still have it.

It's true, I own it and just missing a pair of sidearts to make it all complete and original (if someone know where I can get one, please let me know). I also pick this game not only because it's my favorite of all-time but also in honnor of the Big Bossman who died recently.

Now, why I love this game ?

1- I'm an old school mid WWF 80's wrestling fan.
2- First WWF arcade ever.
3- Simple, easy, fun (no 343874 combo buttons to do Hogan's legdrop, 1 button and BANG!)

OK, some will say that Wrestlfest have a better roster and the rumble, I agree. Whoever, imagine the same thing with WWF Superstars but keeping the cartoon style graphic of it, that will be awesome ! Also the sound FX are WAY more realistic than Wrestlefest.

Do you know the Amiga game "WWF Wreslemania" release in 1991 is a 99% exact port of the arcade ? And the Amiga version have exclusive wrestlers not in the arcade ?

Sgt. Slaugther
The Mountie
British Bulldog
Mr Perfect
The Warlord

I think if those wrestlers was in the arcade version, we could have some killer tag team

Damn! i'm nuts for this game !

I wanna be The Mountie! I may be the only person here to have been arrested by a real one! LOL

I own it as well. It's a completely refurbed cab though. The sequel is better (Wrestlefest), but this one is still great. You can see that it runs on the Double Dragon engine to an extent right after you put it in.

I've wondered who did the voice work for the Million Dollar Man in the promos. Sound absolutely nothing like him!

Wow, I had no idea about the Amiga version of this game... I'll have to check that out one of these days...

As for the arcade game, I have to admit that I was spoiled by Wrestlefest... for many years, Wrestlefest was my favorite arcade game (only competition was Capcom's Alien vs. Predator). I always found the Royal Rumble mode to be a lot more fun than the normal Tag Team mode anyways. So yeah, I like Wrestlefest better... but Superstars is still fun. I'll have to give this one another go later on, since it's been so long since I've played it.

I don't suppose there's any way to play as Million Dollar Man or Andre the Giant, eh?

You can do it with RAINE, but i don't know with MAME

Nothing beats Andre the Giant's butt drop.

I'd take a pic of mine but it's running in a cabinet with POW artwork and panel.

I assume this involves emulator cheats, correct? No way to "legitimately" access them?

Exactly. They are only available by the cheat engine of an emulator.

Weekend bump.

Everybody complains when the MAME Club post is a day late, but no one is participating. Remember, this is YOUR club guys!

this game is awesome. Every wrestler can be identified with ease once they are in the ring. The colors stand out in my opinion, and I mean that in a good way. The cartoon look to me works better than if they had gone for a more realistic one, but that's me. I find the game a bit difficult the few times that I have played it. In fact, I have never passed beyond the second match. The computer lays a whoopping on me as if I was Paris Hilton or something. Brutal, yet fun.
If I was a reviewer back then, I would have given this game an 8 out of 10 for graphics, a 7 for sound, 7 for controls and 8 for overall fun.

This is one of my all time favorite games. I used to have this running in a cabinet, but when I found out it was a Berzerk cabinet, I started to think about restoring it back to Berzerk and now I'm well on the way. I still have the pcb, marquee and bezel of course and can play it on my super gun. Lots of fun times with this game, though I do admitt I enjoy Wrestlefest a bit more.

I really need to find that Amiga version and play it somehow! I always wondered why nobody ported it over to any system.
