Have you Pre-Ordered your Nintendo DS yet? Well have you, punk?

I WILL have a DS (I'm not going for the psp).

But why should I pre-order? My method will be to simply, walk in the store like EB or Gamestop sometime when I'm at the mall (which isn't much). And if they have it, I'll buy it. Easy :P

NintendoMan

Yeah, I reserved mine last week. At my Babbage's you couldn't reserve games yet then. But a couple of days ago the manager called me and said the games are ready to be reserved now. The launch games I will be reserving will be Mario 64 and Rayman DS.

I have been seeing and reading alot on the DS lately, and watching the movies like on ign.com, and seeing it on the tv on shows on TechTV and such and would have to say that I couldn't be looking forward to the DS anymore than I do know, I can't wait!!!!

I am really looking forward to Mario64. Yeah, it would have been cool to have a new Mario on launch, but since the game is changed alot I don't care at all. HELL, if the game was just an EXACT PORT, I wouldn't care either, would still buy it in a second. I mean other than the fact you can play with 4 different characters, there are like 20-30 new levels, if I am correct.
:)

I'm gonna pre-order this week with Mario64DS.

Nintendo has stated that there may be a shortage of product. I think I read that on IGN. Of course this statement could simply be used to stimulate pre-orders, but I don't think that I want to risk it.

Plus the system comes out on a Sunday, so it will be super DS day!

FOR THIRTY DAYS
Please Stop Eating
Kellogg's Toasted Corn Flakes

yeah...

Well, I'll think about a preorder, but maybe I wanna still be a later adopter...ah...maybe not, maybe I'll preorder anyhow :P

Preorder goodies IMO are never a good reason for the consumer to buy in at full price, seeing how you can almost always get the goodie and the item for much less later on.

You should add another poll option that says "No, because I'm going to buy one when good games are available"

I'm not planning on picking up a DS until Wario Ware, Animal Crossing, and Mario Kart are available. 2005. A strong pack-in demo and Mario 64 DS aren't cutting it for me to pick one up at launch.

And I highly doubt that the DS is going to be hard to get a hold of in Feburary/March.

I also own the hatpin used to stab Baby Jesus in the side.

Yeah, that definitely had an impact on how direct I was with my post.

Bottom line - I want it, bad, but I want lots of stuff, really bad. All things considered, unless there's a real killer app on there for me I'll be waiting for a while.

Pedro Lambrini
10-18-2004, 02:03 PM
Yep, preordered it a while back with Mario64x4. Staying in the UK I'd have to wait until March 2005 at least (there's no real date yet!). So, I thought if I'm going to buy it early I may as well get it on release day :) It will definitely sell out - there's already a fair shortage of the screens. And remember the SP? That was a total hassle to find and that only had one screen!

thehistorian
10-18-2004, 02:15 PM
Actually the DS is the first system I've ever pre-ordered and will be the first system I've ever purchased before it was a year old.

What moves me to do this?

It's hard to say. I'm not a Ninty Fanboy though the SNES is one of my favorite systems... And perhaps that is part of it. This will have enough buttons for true SNES emulation. None of the titles I've seen so far warrant me purchasing them new. I'm slightly interested in Summitsoft Corporation's Organizer Plus. I guess I'm looking at this as more than "just a game machine", though it is nice that it will handle GBA games.

There is a ton of potential in that silver case. We will just have to see if it will be pushed as far as it can go...

Ze_ro
10-18-2004, 03:05 PM
Definitely not. The DS looks really interesting, but I'm waiting to see before I buy it. I was an early adopter of the Jaguar, and... well... the rest of that story is in DP Advance...

Not to mention that I have so many damn systems already that I'm spreading myself too thin as a collector. I think I'll just sit out a generation or so to accumulate the stuff that's already on my list. By the time that's done, the DS should be mighty cheap, and I'll have a good idea of how well it did.

Pretty lame choices, so I didn't vote. Here's my "other"

Pre-Ordering if for losers who don't have a 10% employee discount card at a store that doesn't do pre-orders.

I'm getting mine at Kmart. I might even wait longer and use my 20% Birthday discount.

What I am trying to say is that I have always got my games the DAY my game store, Babbages's, have received that game. And since the post office, ups, or whatever doesn't ship on sundays???

Well, actually I would have bought the GC on launch day in a second but at that time I was in college and completely jobless and broke. so wouldn't have cared really then.
And I don't know if the colored systems are really going to be that much rarer. I mean of course there probably not as many made, but not worth anymore.

I guess you could call me a plain jane, because I just like black and silver better. (There are a few different colors of the GBA SP I would love to have though)

Ugh...I like puzzle games. I don't like paying top dollar for puzzle games, though. If the system has some great story-based games in the vein of the N64 Zeldas or Metroid Prime, that's one thing, but if they don't play well...I can use my money elsewhere.

So I'm definitely going to be reading some more about this.

First off, I'm not bothering with Mr. Driller unless it has Time Attack mode, the only mode really worth playing over and over.

Second, this is the lamest pole of recent memory and I'm not voting. It's so biased, it might as well be voting for president.

Well, I really like Mr. Driller but refused in recent years to pay ~$60 to import the 3 most recent games (2 GBA ones and 1 GCN one). I believe that Mr. Driller will be a bit more fun with dual screens, and that it will retain its awesomeness throughout.
