Okay, I found this old NES game in a pawn shop while visiting Atlanta. I played it a little bit and it seems like a funky point and click style adventure. But what I was interested in is that on the title screen, underneath "NIGHTSHADE", it says "Part One of Somethingorother". I was talking to a friend about it, saying that I guessed part two never came out, and he suggested maybe it did, but under a different name.
So. Does anybody know if there was a sequel to this game?

As far as I know, the only playtesters for Nightshade 2 were Elvis, Dracula, and Bob Dole. So, to answer your question, no. LOL

That's too bad, though, because it was a rather innovative NES title, one with plenty of action and adventure to keep gamers enticed.

Ah, the game with the Reyeye-looking guy in a coat?

It's interesting to note that there is another Nightshade game, and not the PS2 title. A few years ago I recieved an old MSX game by the same name as a bonus...it's got a grinning knight on the cover facing off against skeletons and other undead nasties. Haven't tried it out yet though.

Quick trip to vgmuseum.com reveals to me that the title screne reads: "Nightshade Part 1: Claws of Sutekh"

And a little bit of google research revealed this little trivia tid bit:

Well I finally got in contact with Nightshade's designer/writer Paul Kidd. The man is a comical genius but that's beside the point. He tells me there was never actually any idea scribbled down for Nightshade two; despite #1 being marked "Part 1: Claws of Sutekh". That's kinda disappointing; but he did tell me that the original Nightshade wasn't gonna be so funny the first time... he sent two versions of it to Beam Software and they chose the funny one, as he put it "Thank God".

My guess is the game was called "part 1" because NightShade was suppose to be a comic book hero type and the title would suggest that he goes off to have other adventures.

Edit part deux: Oh! And I found this which will probably intrest no one other than myself because I actually used to read Albedo when I was a kid:

I love Nightshade! It is set up like an old PC point & click game, but there are some action elements (such as fighting and the fire rescue scene) and I love the sense of humor present in the game. Definitely one of the funniest games I've ever played. I also thought it was innovative how if you died or got captured, you got a chance to escape an elaborate trap so you could continue the game. The traps get more difficult, and I don't think you could escape more than three or four times.

Honestly, I think they just called it Part 1 for the hell of it, although I'm sure there would've been a Part 2 and beyond if Nightshade had been popular, although a game like this definitely has "cult classic" written all over it, not "mainstream hit", so I doubt they were expecting to make a sequel. I do remember this getting some nice coverage in Nintendo Power, but still, this definitely wasn't a game for an average NES-owning kid back then.

I haven't played this in a long, long time.......all this discussion makes me want to fire this game up again. Too bad I have so much goddamned homework that I should be doing right now.

The traps do get impossible, I remember verifying that when I was young.

Yes, Nightshade is a WONDERFUL game. I've had loads of problems emulating it though, since I sold my cartridge in high school (what the hell was I thinking? Clearly I wasn't.) It's definitely one of Beam Software's better showings, don't you think? I'm glad people remember it.

And I feel you on the homework bit; it's finals week for me. Clinical Neuro, here I come! -_-

I think, if I vagely remember a NP article on Nightshade, you could escape least 4 or 5 times before the big game over.

This'll be, I believe, a conversion of the Spectrum/C64 title by Ultimate (now Rare) from the mid 80s. Same hero as that in Sabre Wulf and Knight Lore...

Also it had some of the coolest music on the NES. As soon as the name is mentioned I get the I get the "crisis" music going on in my head. You know, like when you're sitting in the chair and the bomb is about to go off....

Such a great game. I always liked opening the curtain on the girl changing in the clothing store too. :)

Definately a favorite of mine. I used to pray for a sequal but it never came to be. I can remember escaping 3 times but I thought the fourth one was the impossible one. Can't say for sure though. This game was very innovative AND had lots of room for growth. Fantastic sequals were possible, .... and still are. I don't know how well it would translate to 3D though and sadly if they tried to do it again, thats the way it would happen.

Wow. Never knew there were so many Nightshade fans here.

Nightshade is one of my personal top 5 NES games. I actually picked this one up new back in the day. I have beat the game numerous times, but, for the life of me, could never figure out how to escape from the trap where the character is trapped inside a block of ice. I know I could look on GameFAQs. To lazy. Anyone here know how?

for me nightshade was a really great concept that was made unplayable by the few action/fight scenes scattered throughout. the combat mechanics were pretty choppy. it's a shame too, 'cause the humor in it is delicious.

i'd love to be able to conquer the awkwardness of the combat system to play all the way through this game.
