What do u think the best 2D system of all time is? and Why! NeoGeo for me.......

NES, why? because NES/Famicom is the godfather of games...

Neo geo is a rad system but I feel there is not enough variety in the library to make it the best. I would have to say SNES just for that reason, variety.

Neo Geo .... not a hard question at all

i would also say that sega saturn came in a very close second in my list.

Sega Saturn....just enjoyed it the most. The Neo Geo has too many blah games and besides all the kof/FF/SS games the fighters are just too generic.

The best 2D system doesn't exist...er...enough with the existentialist crap already! Oh just talking to myself.
The Neo Geo is a damn fine piece of equipment. Other stuff doesn't come close - take the PGM, which is essentially a tinified Neo (well, that's a great simplification, as it's an original system and not a copycat system by any means), but the games put out for it just don't have the polish and depth of Neo Geo games IMO. Pretty good graphics, but a wee bit uneven by standards of the later Neo.
Speaking of the Neo, I tried out my first game of Burning Fight today. Wow, that's a great game! Only got a bit further than the second boss...not even Hulk Hogan is THAT cheap. We're talking cheap of the "I got cheaped out of a quarter in 5 seconds" cheap, bouncing your fighter about the mall before you have a chance to dodge, react, or do ANYTHING - once he's up, he's down again.
In other news, I played some of 64th Street again. Glad to say I finally realized there's some more moves in there than I had thought, and figured out the throw and that it's very useful by wharfs, on flatbed cars, and more :D The game still sucks HORRIBLY, though! :P
As far as computers go, take your pick - x68K, FM Towns, NEC machines, the IBM PS/2 standard and its line, the Apple II, the Macintosh...all have enough great games that I cannot in good faith say I have a favorite.

The Amiga 1200. A great variety of games that look gorgeous in AGA - Ruff'n'Tumble, Alien Breed, Project Zero...
Followed by the SNES. Same reasons, different games - Yoshi's Island, Castlevania, R-Type...

The only one with good RPG's of course - SNES.

The SNES was the best for me. 99% of the gaming world will never get to touch a neo-geo system due to price and scarcity. Besides, some of the games for the SNES are all-time top 10 quality...

Tough call - I'll go with SNES, followed by NES and Genesis.

I guess noone else considered the Jaguar? Seriously.
No?
Alrighty.
My second nomination would have to go to the Dreamcast.
Well the NES and Neo-Geo must be the two best in my books.
Metal Slug kicks Contra's ass.
King of Fighters mutilates Street Fighter 2010.
.....
NEO-GEO :D

SNES here as well. The improvement of graphics and sound over the NES clinch this one for me.

"Best" as in "Most technically proficient" = Neo/Saturn
"Best" as in "Personal favourite" = Mega Drive/Genesis.

its really not as expensive as you would think...sure, some of the AES games are ridiculously priced, but, if you go on ebay and look for a US AES seller, you can get the system pretty cheap...and, you can go the route i did and get the MVS....a lot cheaper, and it wasnt all that hard to find the 4 slot dedicated that i wanted for a very little amount of money

Game Boy Advance.
Has the power of the SNES, but lets me go portable. Plus it's cheaper for both the system and the games.

I think most peoples version of expensive when it comes to classic systems, is anything more than $10-$20 for the system, and $2-$5 for the games. I know that's on the high end for me anyways....

King of Fighters mutilates Street Fighter 2010.
Odd comparison to make since Street Fighter 2010 is not AT ALL in the same genre as King of Fighters.
For me, it's the NES followed by the SNES and Genesis/Sega CD.

CPS2
Soooo many great games for it, fighters, beat em ups, shooters, puzzlers, it's got something for everyone.
Of course Neo Geo is great.
But actually in terms of home consoles, I'd say xbox.
CvS2, SvC, and GG Reload online right now, plus SF3 and HSF2, KoF02/03, and CFE all on the way online. Plus Metal Slug 3, with 4/5 on the way with leaderboards. And the possibily of the older KoF's, LB1 and 2, and MotW making it to xbox live...
And throw in the fact that these ports are way better than Saturn ports were back in the day.

Edit - RE: Natureboy, GBA isn't a console.
Sorry to be picky but I'm interested, what would you call it? To me I would call it a 'Handheld' but I would describe it as a Handheld Console as opposed to a Home Console. :)

Saturn has the capabilities, and the games to back them up. However, the Neo Geo is quite wonderful as well.

The Genesis, followed by SNES. Never played a Neo Geo, so I can't compare.

Edit - RE: Natureboy, GBA isn't a console.
Never claimed it was.
The subject reads "Best 2D *SYSTEM*," and nowhere in the first post does it state console. Just because nobody *else* can read doesn't mean I can't...
(I'll also take this opportunity to add backwards compatability that pushes the number of games to well over 1000 to my list of reasons that the GBA is the best 2D system out there).
