I was at Blockbuster looking at their selection of XBOX games, and they had a ton of Vietnam games for the XBOX. I think that had at least 3 or 4 different Vietnam games.
Are any of these Vietnam games any good?
Any of the more action based and easy to get into without a huge learning curve?

These type games are my favorites.
The first one I picked up was:
Vietcong:Purple Haze....Xbox..
I played through it..It's a FPS....It's decent.. A few missions stood out and I did like the follow the Point man slowly through high grass and Jungle.
The main thing I liked about the game was not really being able to see what's ahead.
Sort of in a scary type state whereas at every corner an enemy could just pop out and kill me.
So sneaking around/taking my time and being carefull was a must...That gave it a Vietnam feel..
.. it was a scary feel of getting killed just as I took two more steps...or getting killed by a VC grenade and not being abe to get away in time.
Booby Traps ect..
That walking into the unknown ...was the most thing I liked.
I had a good solo battle with some snipers that took my several tries to figure out where they were.
Otherwise the AI was outright stupid at times..Bad detection where I'm shooting an enemy and he's not getting hit.
My solderies would get pilted with bullets and just stand there with blood splatting over and over and not die...in a suspended spinning motion.
The enemy is standing on top of them and they still are in a Stoop mode
They'd get stuck on things when I called them to follow..or clearly not be holding anything in their hands but still shooting.
Then sometimes certain parts of the game just played well...where everything worked out, looked great... some of the missions I found pretty cool...Pretty well thought out..
I had some hectic battles..The massive amount of cursing was funny....
So IMO..it was worth the purchase..
I'd say but this one used for $29.00..
Conflict Vietnam....
This game is much, much more detailed/clean..I'm a big fan of the Conflict series.
I'm actually playing this game right now..It's running on my Xbox as I write this.
Very well made, well done game that I haven't found any faults with yet...
Lots of action....Lots of SMART enemy VC..Booby traps etc.
This game is hard at times and I had to resort to cheating somewhat..at one point.....But it's good..real good.
Running out of ammo with overwelming odds made the game so realistic..
My soldiers would of been MIA ..if I didn't use one ammo refill cheat.
Now I just make sure to conserve ammo..
This game has a lot to it....It's much more of a not rushed game.
I'm loving it..It's an awesome game..
This game reminds me a lot of Movie: Apocalypse Now..A Favorite movie of mine..
Right down to the boat........... level..
I'd say I haven't had the scary feel as I did with Vietcong:Purple Haze....mainly because I can manipulate my soldiers more..Use them wisely and they aren't as dumb.
I paid full price and it's so worth it.
I just bought Shellshock Nam 67 used for $44.99
I heard/read bad reviews on it..but I don't care..
As soon as I'm done with Conflict Vietnam I'll start on it.
I think I'm going to like it more then it's been reviewed..

I played the Men of Valor demo and it was ok, not sure if it was released yet. Most of them type of games have a Ghost Recon sort of feel to me but what do you expect I guess.
Speaking of ShellShock,
Is that similiar to what was released back on the Saturn, besides revamped graphics and shit?

As I wrote in another thread..
Finished CONFLICT VIETNAM tonight..
The ending I have to say is very compelling..but watching the beginning right after that(starting a new game)makes it even better..or more understanding..
I started a new game on Extremely hard for a later date..
I will play this game over at least twice.
CONFLICT VIETNAM:...OK this game is great, but it's a Veru Good 3rd person shooter that uses strategy.
It's just a great game in general, but it never truly gave me the feel of being at VIETNAM .
It was more like playing a Movie VIETNAM themed game with several that come to mind.
Apocalypse Now
Full Metal Jacket
Etc.
Last night I popped in ..
SHELLSHOCK NAM 67
Right from the door this game gives you a VIETNAM feel...
I stated playing the game and thought..Oh yea. this is much better a game for realism...straight real war grim footage.
The game is beautiful..crisp scenery that just looks like being there.
Man the graphics in this game are really nice high tech looking..
The soldier I'm playing just looks right..the color of his uniform etc.
It looks like a High end computer game with it's crisp and clean graphics...Just really clean.
As soon as I stared we found dead US soldiers and had to take whatever we could off of them that we might need..as being told be a commanding officer what to do..
Then bloody bodies floating in the water with the blood flowing...
Dead VC lie all over headless/dismembered from these big firefights we run into..
It's very graphical/realistic..Blood & Gore.
The VC look like VC..and you are shooting not only men but women...
Women VC..I didn't get that in the other two games.
This is not as much as a strategic shooter as Conflict .from as I've done only one mission with it's primary goals..
I can't use stationary enemy guns and I can't wander to far.
It's Shoot, don't get hit/blood splats on screen/kill everything ...finish primary goals.
Now I've been taken to the base that just looks dead on..
Talking to various soldiers and in all honesty looking for the Hookers that I hear are at this base,Mamason..
I did find a hospital on that base that had nicely drawn nurses..One nurse is friendly but the other told me to get lost..
This game just has that much more realism to it..
So far I like it..
I have no clue what the reviewers were Smoking when they gave it a bad review.
As a VIETNAM experience game..this is it.

i'm about 4 missions into shellshock right now and i'm finding it to be pretty solid. the game designers obviously have tried to put a lot of that "apocalypse now" vibe into it. there are a lot of heads on stakes on cursing, VC saying things like "you go home in body bag GI" and lots of blood. the attempts at gritty drama sometimes fall flat, the voice acting over does the psycho/macho elements of your fellow grunts. unlike many games your squadmates do get killed pretty often, you can even lay back and watch them take the bullets.
the levels are large but the barriers are annoying, i hate any game where knee high bushes, rocks and logs seemingly stop a full grown man. a good thing is that the levels arent totally on rails, you can take your own path provided you knock the objectives in order. there are reasonable save points so thats not a major issue. i'm playing the game thru on medium difficulty and its definatley not a pushover, the VC are fearless and blessed with good AI, at least in long range combat. the weapon selection is in keeping with the era and you can really feel the pros and cons of each weapon, right down to clunky reloads on the M-16.
the control is pretty easy to get used to although you'll forget all but walk and fire pretty quickly. theres not much sniping in this game and so far no stealthiness, just shoot and move ahead. one thing i liked about this game is the way it handles ladders, a major shooter dilema, instead of some ackward climb you just press the action button when the ladder icon appears. you dont have any squad command duties which is a major plus for me, and so far no wimpy protect and escort missions. i'd prefer the objectives to be a little more clear, i spent lots of time looking around needlessly but that might be intentional.
its no medal of honor but its addictive enough to be more than a rental.
