I am looking for PS1 enthusiasts who can help me capture screenshots of PS1 games: US, Japanese, Demos, or European. (preferably US, Demos, or Japanese)
The screenshots need to be 320X240 (or is 320 X 200, I forgot now).
I need screenshots of the main menu of the PS1 game and an action shot of the game.
You can use whatever software you wish, but I have been using ePSXe with HyperSnap.
All this work is for my website www.PSExtreme.net. I have tried to tackle this task alone and it's very difficult, especially with my schedule. You will be credited on the website. I can't afford to pay you, but I can give you a discount on Lightspan games. :P
If interested, email me. If my email isn't attached to this posting, visit the website and email me.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I don't know if you're aware but our forum members Dangerboy and PapaStu are on a similar quest, and I'd imagine kevincure is on one as well. I only mention this because you boys may all want to team up, pool your resources and share for your various projects.
That is all.

If you could explain how to do it, so they pictures come out good, perhaps with digital camera I could help.

First off, many thanks for your reply!
The easiest way for me was to use ePSXe which is a free emulator for the PC. I would insert my game, configure ePSXe for 320 resolution, and with HyperSnap on it would take a screenshot of the ePSXe screen perfectly. ePSXe isn't 100% though. There are a few games that don't work. I would hate for you to use a digital camera and a TV or even a video capture card and TV because I would think that would be more time consuming.
If you would like me to walk you through I wouldn't mind, just email me. Thanks agian.

Thanks for the info. I would gladly help them out in any way I can. I am helping someone else on another project which I believe those others are helping as well (my resposibility will be the import section). w00t! I love imports.

Time consuming? I think I'd be playing the game anyway.. rofl.
Do you have a link to the emu? or is it on your web site?

Ugh... menu shots... why dear god why menu shots?
You're only going to host two screenies of each game and you're going to waste one on a bunch of text?
Anyway... I have a capture card but currently no computer to install it to. This porblem should be fixed not this weekend but next. If you still need help I need to take screenies of my PSX games anyway and I could certainly send along some your way.
I know Dangerboy and Papstu have a lot of PSX games (well ok understatement in Danger's case) but I could certainly knock my 70+ RPGs out of the way.

Daria - Wow you remind me of another RPG playing person(Girl) I know.... You wouldn't happen to be in florida would ya?
On another note, Are the psone emulators really good enough to play and get screen shots from? I don't think my PC is good enough (or stable enough) for that. I think I'll just have to bust out my camera... lol

PSX emulation is reasonable good. I don't have a high end computer and I can play most games fine. It might be a little bit of a pain to set it up for the first time with the various plugins that there are.

I own all of the US commercial releases but no time to do them all (does not include demos), especially when I have to do Japanese (1,204 of them) and European (362 of them). Any help is appreciated even if it's just the rpgs. I would like screenshots like Retro Base does (www.retrobase.net I think?) When I say menu shots, I mean like in the begining of the game where it says PRESS START most of the time. There's obviously no rush. If possible, name the screenshots by the slus # of the game.
Thank you for your time.

Usiing a camera won't give nearly as good of a pic as a screen capture either.

At this point in time, beggars can't be choosers. If the screenshot looks reasonably nice I'll take it. :)

What I do notice on my ePSXe is that sometimes certain games don't show the text properly. Sort of annoying, especially on RPGs. But again, at least it's a screenshot.
SUPPOSEDLY there's a way to capture screenshots if you own a gameshark that plugs into the PSX and a cable linking it to the PC. Since I don't own one I haven't tried it. (There's one for sale on eBay for $9.99 that I'm thinking about trying) Hmm, I wonder if my Yaroze could capture screenshots as well.

I do not have a link on my website. But the url is:
Very easy. Now you may have to download the PSX BIOS. I think if you search google for the BIOS you can find it easily. Remember, you must own a PSOne in order to download the BIOS. If you have trouble finding it tell me.

Go to www.psextreme.net & click the US Playstation list, and any game without a link I need a screenshot for. Thanks for asking! I can list the ones I have screenshots for tonight after the kids go to bed if you would prefer.

Up to now it has been me and me alone. No one else contributes (or contributed yet) to the site. I originally had aspirations to do Saturn, Dreamcast, 3DO, PS2, N64, and Amiga CD32. In fact, I still have some screenshots for those systems and box art archived. The site used to be GameScholar.com and then I decided to go PSOne only.

seriously dude, dont waste a menu shot. its worthless, nobody ever finds it useful, it neither gives a feel for the game nor display the games' prowess. For RPGs its pretty essantial you take a normal walking picture and a battle pic. world map is useful.

When I had a rom site, I took no less then 10 images for each game. Although I could have done with less, I find having one of the following is the best way to visually describe an RPG:
Walk Around Shot
World Map
Battle Scene
Cutscene
+special feature (like in RoboTrek you'd probably want a shot of the kid designing a robot)
Those 5 will pretty much give you a rough idea of what the game's like.
(Other genres may vary but you get the idea)
All the title screen will tell you is... well... the title, and you're going to know that information before ever clicking on the thumb nail.

OldSchoolGamer,
Thank you for the encouraging words. Sometimes I ask myself why I try to do this. I have a passion for PSX but I never hear from anyone. I often wonder if it's just a waste of time. Because of your comment I now feel compelled to finish what I started.
Maybe now I'll get my 'behind' in gear and post pics of the Utlimate Kickboxing Arena, Happy Diet Stepper Machine, Cateye Game Bike, Blockids with Special Controller, V-Pick, ZXE-D Robots, and other rare items. I might even work on Lightspan or European section this weekend.

Did you configure the video? Start the program, click CONFIG, choose WIZARD GUIDE, go through and choose your bios file, then CONFIG your video ..I choose Pete's OpenGL Driver and then clicked the config button to get a new video menu... (I use Windows Mode, 320X240, then I clicked NICE settings at the bottom left of the menu). Config your sound (I never did because I'm just capturing screens), then the CD-Rom driver (I used default CDR WNT) then controller and then done. For controller I just use the keyboard. It's z,x,c,a,s,d, and arrow keys I think.
Try that

This one works when I tell it to read BIOS, it loads the white screen and goes to the menu when you don't put a game in.

Great. Do you have software to capture the screen shots? I'm not sure if epsxe does it. If not, try HyperSnap (check cnet to download). I bought mine and can't/won't give my serial out.

PS Extreme, I may be able to help you - I'm doing the same thing for my site, and between me and my staff we have hundreds of PSOne games. The only problem is - as you know it is very time consuming - and we're not just capturing for games for the PSOne, but dozens of other systems. We have no problem assisting you though, but getting them to you may take a while. You'd have to resize our images though, as we'd be giving you images that we didn't need. I'll try to get in touch. Good luck in any case.

Thanks. I can re-size. And yes, screen capturing is very time consuming and boring. I tried to do other systems and I went nuts. Take your time on getting them to me. I'm in no hurry.
