Are there any retailers that still carry these? By the time i had saved up enough money to buy one last time i found a place ,their stock had run dry.
Are they good enough to actually warrent a perchase?
I read the Game Admiral sucked... :(

I have one and I never use it (didn't like having my cart stick eight hundred feet out of the system). Get a flash cart for the GBA

Your not using it, give it to me! :D

If you're willing to pay full price for it, I have one that's pretty much brand new complete in box I would get rid of, just PM/E-mail me.

I'd be open to a trade.

You won't be happy with one.

The screen is so blurry it's near useless, and it will give you a headache quicker than playing a Virtual Boy.

And the sound is horrible.

Plus if you barely bump or jiggle it , it will mess up the game.

As mentioned, get a GBA w/Flash Cart.

I actually don't MIND the gameaxe. The screen is COMPLETELY comparable to a game gear or lynx. I thought the sound was pretty good, and if you open up the NES case and take the small guts out, it works and feels fairly normal.

BUT, yeah, a flashcart is much cheaper and easier, and works better.

game axe sucks. Get a GTA (game theory admiral) theyre smaller and better. You can get it for 45 US on tototek.com

Yea that's why I said the screen sucks.

I still can't play a GameGear or Lynx for more than 5 minutes without getting a headache.

Does the sega Nomad suffer from the same screen issues? :(

I got my Game Axe in a trade for a psone screen when the screens first came out. I got ripped off. Game Axe is not the best hand held out there although would be much inproved with some updated backlighting.

The Nomad ain't no TG-Express, but it was made by Sega, not a bunch of guys who reverse engineered an NES in their spare time ;D

You'd find that the Nomad is great for action games like a Shinobi or Rocket Knight Adventures, but subpar for a text heavy RPG. Take that, and I assume the Game Axe is worse.

A few years ago I thought a Game Axe would be a cool purchase, but then I realized it was third party garbage.

Go for the Game Theory Admiral. Better battery life, and connections.

I USED to have a Game Axe (got rid of it to help pay for my Xbox). Piece of crap. The novelty wore off after about 2 minutes. Yeah, it was cool that it could hook up to the TV, but you gotta be careful not to move it around any.

It was just became a balancing act! You had the converter sticking out of the top, then an NES game sticking out of that! Even if you cracked open a cart and only used the inch-and-a-half board, it still looked silly!

And from what I was told, I had one of the good ones! That's because it had only a slightly shitty screen (instead of the tumor causing "insanity screen"). It just wasn't worth it. If you want to play NES games portably, and they haven't release the ones you want for GBA yet, better get that flash card thing (which I have never tried and don't know a damn thing about)!

I just wish there was some place to vote on which NES re-releases would come out for GBA or DS (like, oh, I dunno... BIONIC COMMANDO?!?)

The Game Theory Admiral is fantastic! I wouldn't get a Game Axe, unless it was purely for the collection. The GTA is small, good on batteries, backlit, and loaded with some of the best "Engrish" documentation out there!

I'd agree -- don't get a Game Axe. I had one for a short period of time. It was neat, but I believe the biggest problem is that the screen's backlight dies out very quickly, leaving you with a dumb looking system that you need to hook up to the TV to use. That, and the fact that games stick about a million feet out the top as already mentioned, and it's about as useless as a system can get.

I didn't have any problems with the screen though other than the worry about the backlight. The only thing it suffers from is the same thing the Nomad and Game Gear SMS hook up had -- the games are meant for a TV, so sometimes you can't see small stuff that is going on.

But anyway, avoid this. And while we're talking about crappy Nintendo-related products that seem cool, avoid the Tristar too. It sucks even worse.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but I always wanted a Tristar just to experiment with.

So did I until I got one, and then I felt horrible selling it to some fool who thought it would work as a good alternative to the NES and SNES.

It is perhaps the worst piece of hardware ever. I'd rather throw out my NES and get a Game Axe or even an all-in-one pirate controller than another Tristar. Ugh.

The game Axe is cool little unit. Sure, the screen aint that great, but it aint that bad for a passive matrix either. What do you want for early nineties color LCD technology?

The GTA is good too, but that adapter pisses me off. Not having a 72 pin adapter pisses me off more. ALso, the Game Axe has a larger screen, if I remember correctly. The GTA has a brighter, clearer screen.

I thought I remembered seeing an adapter for NES games one time...only it was on eBay, and only once. I remember hearing rumors about something of the sort being released, and I am fairly certain that I actually saw one too...
