Why is it that the preveilant mode of thinking amongst the readers of Nintendo Official Magazine is that of the ignorant fanboy?

I have been chatting with one such person on MSN, and I am quite simply shocked.

Nintendo did NOT invent the games console.

The NES was NOT the first decent home console.

The SNES was NOT the best of it's generation in terms of hardware.

The N64 lost to the PSOne for a good reason- Nintendo's stubborn tactics, and it's dependance on cartridges, the largest of which held 64Megabytes- yes! That's one tenth the capacity of a CD-ROM!

The Gamecube has NOT got any advantages over it's competitors in terms of games- it has NO classics whatsoever- just ports of good games, and some fairly fun exclusives- none with that 'spark' that made the N64 and SNES games such a joy to play.

The DS is NOT the first console to have a touch-screen interface. The Zodiac got there first.

The DS is NOT innovative in terms of hardware- it's all been done before in some form.

Why are you so blind?

I was reading a forum and this struck my attention, why you might ask?
By reading I can tell this guy/girl is downing all that is nintendo.

He is given the worst opinions for great consoles.

This person make me angry :/

Why is he calling people who read nintendo mag. a fan boy? x_x x_x

i read nintendo power, and i agree that almost everyone who reads it is an uneducated fan boy/girl.
i love nintendo, thus why i read it, but the morons that write in letters ask the stupidest damn questions ive ever heard.
but most people who write in to any game magazine are pretty mainstream gamers always ranting about the newest FPS game or final fantasy to puke itself all over xbox or ps2.
i heard there was an old school gamer magazine about to launch. anyone heard about this???

I read NP and i do find most people who write letters to the mag seem to be pretty casual gamers, and are pretty ignorant overall about video games as a whole. But who cares...more good finds in the wild for me :-P

But he's right. I love Nintendo, but the guy is right.

Kind of. Didn't the Game.com have a touchscreen?

And I do think that the DS has hardware innovations.

I receive NP but I only get it for the freebies and the pictures :)

Oh, and please tell me about the other system(s) that used a touchscreen (replying to the second-to-last comment).

Because he's a smuck!

Edit: That is to clarify, his hastilly deriven generalization is obviously falacious. For one it's tautological. Second, he hasn't met all NP readers, surely some read it for other reasons. And, finally, his claims are non-sequitor, both to his orginal magazine argument as well as to a broader critique of Nintendo as a video game company.

Yes, the Game.com has a touchscreen interface with a special stylus. I'm not sure if it was the first handheld system to have that feature, but it definitely came out before the Zodiac.

The NES was NOT the first decent home console.

1.) Yeah they are called Arcade Machines

The SNES was NOT the best of it's generation in terms of hardware.

2.) Yeah they were called PC's

The N64 lost to the PSOne for a good reason- Nintendo's stubborn tactics, and it's dependance on cartridges, the largest of which held 64Megabytes- yes! That's one tenth the capacity of a CD-ROM!

3) Duh, i could have told you that, who told you the N64 was doing good in 1996-1998? and for the record the largest was 256MB.... Zelda: Majora's Mask

The Gamecube has NOT got any advantages over it's competitors in terms of games- it has NO classics whatsoever- just ports of good games, and some fairly fun exclusives- none with that 'spark' that made the N64 and SNES games such a joy to play.

4.) um, didnt you say the N64 wasn't that good in your last post or are you just focusing on the market sales?

The DS is NOT the first console to have a touch-screen interface. The Zodiac got there first.

5.) No, the PDA did

Why are you so blind?

6.) I'm not the one talking shit about a company, it's just games man, not a damn lifestyle.

Bottom line, Nintendo Power sucks ass, it's not the same magazine anymore, pick up a better one and enjoy reading

As for SMB, ignore his ass bro, he's a douche bag because mommy and daddy didn't buy him a GameCube for his 13th birthday.

@Super_Ghouls_'N'_Ghosts

I think you're thinking 256 megabits for the Zelda cart, not megabytes.

The largest cart was 320 megabits I'm pretty sure.

i only have a problem with your #1.....arcade machines aren't home consoles....they arent even consoles....

now, a lot of us have them in our homes, they are really just for public use to make money, not for private enjoyment in homes

A tautology is something one repeats over and over. Are you sure that's what you meant to say? A tautological statement isn't necessarily a bad thing; anytime you have somebody say, for example, "I love Nintendo and hate everybody else," that would be a tautology since you've essentially stated the same thing twice. It can either be elegant, or utterly boorish and redundant (Hey this tasty coffee, it's tastycoffeealicious!)

Second, he hasn't met all NP readers, surely some read it for other reasons. And, finally, his claims are non-sequitor, both to his orginal magazine argument as well as to a broader critique of Nintendo as a video game company.
Absoutely! Now, what's a non-sequitor? Is that what happens when Elvis Presley alights from his grave in a sparkling, sequined costume, and goes down to collect a check from his debtors?

Well I always believe there is a fine line between the two, but sometimes when people have to be critical over a certain company, then that's when you gotta ask yourself, "are you having fun yet"?

Lifestyle is great, but games are games and all I care is to enjoy them and discuss them

and no i didnt realize I was posting a game forum, I think the "Classic Video Games- Digital Press" forum was a dead give away...I thought I was in a strange box with tiny spirits...lighted by fire...please excuse me, because I'm just a mere...cave man.... :P

I think he meant a non sequitur.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic, but if you're genuinely wondering, it's basically a response that says nothing, or has no relevance to the question. "Oh, say now!" is a good example.

I had a gifted teacher who did this continuously. She would say "Gross!", but not in the context you would normally (or formally) use it. True example follows:

(Me) "Hey Miss Schulte! I got a new bike yesterday!"

(M. Schulte, smiling and presenting a thumbs-up) "Gross!"

Who cares go play what you like and leave it at that. I love how a mainstream gamer doesn't have the same internet cred as someone who claims to be all hardcore.

Nobody on here is "hardcore" we are all dorks who enjoy games. :P Someone doesn't agree with you boo-hoo go play some games already.

It's funny how many of us sort of waver between brilliance and blindness sometimes LOL

Non sequitir is best translated as "It doesn't follow."
