Hey there DP members and visitors.

Dangerboy and I just wanted you to know that the reigns have been passed on.... Queen Of The Felines has passes the reigns of the PlayStation list to some of the resident crazies. Us. Everything that's here now when you look in either DP:Advanced or in the nifty online guide to the left there (/me points) is all because of her. She's made her mark here, and all we can hope to really do is expand the AMAZING work that she's done for all of us.

So this is where you all come in. We are going to be making the descriptions and the info about these games for the online guide and notes about these games.

So what are YOU ALL looking for when you search out these games. Playstyles, cool info about the games, codes? Something else entirly? Let us know, as we'd like to help gear this to you, the user; as much as possible.
This also means this is where you can point out errors currently in the list, new finds and questions about the games and the system to help us along. Because though the games appear to have stopped coming out, there are variants abound to still be found and much more info to be learned.

For now we are going to be focusing on the NTSC:U library since thats where our knowledge is supreme, but it will expand out over time.

If a mod could sticky this for a little while, it would be greatly appreciated.

Just wanted to chime in here and note specifically here that there is no work at all on your part, sans some reading. We want your thoughts, typos you find, what you want in there, what you don't, etc.

I can't speak for Stu, but I am a huge fan of knowing the last little detail in the life of a game. Weird trivia, packing variants, why there's a ESRB switch, heck, why there are companies that refuse to put the spine artwork on the rear insert.

We are here for you.

This weekend I will be heading over to the electronics store and finally invest some money into a All In Wonder so that I may resume taking screenshots for games (my previous version became obsolete with WinXP). That said, I want feedback on what you look for in pics. Super moves? Basic gameplay? Cinemas? The more input Steve and I get, the better we can mold the PSX DP: A guide into what it needs to be; what it should be.

Krisitne sacrificed a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to make the guide what it is today, and we plan on continuing that trend no matter what it takes. LIke I mentioned in chat; I plan on getting this section of the DP universe to so full it makes the Encyclopedia Britannica look like a cliff note session. Papastu would agree.

Your time has come PSX players and collectors. Don't let this chance pass.

The chaos begins.

Jason

Right on, guys. I've got just the few last changes to make to my PSX list, then I'll forward over the Access database to you two with all the info so you guys can crosscheck. PSextreme is working with some guys now to discover more about the 1997 batch of Lightspan titles.

Peace.

personal prefrence is seeing a normal screenshot of hte game, the thing that best describes the genre or the type of stuff you'll be doing. for example, for an RPG a shot of hte world map is useless, but a screenshot of you being in town, says a lot of things on how the game works and plays. unless its like zelda 2 where most of the time it isnt isometric, but side scroller.

for fighting games its pretty basic, a SS mid special move or whatnot is cool, but screenshots during fatalities like in Mortal Kombat suck cause the screen goes dark.

screenshots of title screens/menus are worthless unless there are 2 showing the difference between releases or whatnot

i can write some stuff about a lot of hte RPGs and random other releases (i have some of the rarest PS games, Fox Hunt for example) if you guys let me. i will send a list of which games i have on request.

also i think the rarity rating should be updating for games that were released under the Greatest hits label, because the non-greatest hits version of FF: Chronicles is a HELL OF A LOT harder and more expensive to find/buy than the GH version.

im always open for opinions and feedback, just ask!

Glad to have you fellas aboard. Nothing works better for section editors than actually OWNING all of the games for that system. It pretty much guarantees you can verify anything, and that's important, especially with a library of this magnitude.

Count me in to help wherever I can. I've got hundreds of PSX games (someday I'll count them :)) so if you decide to tackle a particular area and need an assist, let me know.

I've been slowly building a PAL database just for fun, so far I have ~2500/~4100 releases listed with names and about 1500 out of the 2500 with catalog numbers and additional info.

A lot of the missing games are country variants and late budget releases and therefore the only way to get good, reliable info is to buy them. I'm waiting supermarkets and such begin clearouts of PS1 games soon after Christmas so I could afford (most of) them.

The figures above don't include hydr0x's list yet, I hope to push the listed games to 3000-3400 with that.

3000+ PAL releases! @_@ :eek 2: Jesus!

Any idea how many of those are actually different games rather than regional variations?

There was a thread (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11703) that explored whether the games had redbook format audio. I think that including that info in the description would be cool.

I'm an avid US playstation collector. I use the DP guide as my holy book for rarity, short game synopsis, and screen caps. It has been a valuable asset to my collecting arsenal.

Congratulations on your new position and I do have some comments that hopefully you will take to heart. I love screen caps. And nothing displays a better insight into a game than an in-game screen cap. Maybe there can be more than 2 caps. I am thinking 3. Either a Cinema Cap, in-game Battle Cap, or Map/Town Cap. This is obviously varied by type of game.

Variants on game packaging and disc label design in also important.

It would be also great if actual production runs can be displayed....(wishful thinking yeah I know... :D ). Even though the magnitude and complexity of discovering production numbers of every US Playstation game is not feasible, but maybe a framework can be put in place or even estimates.

Well those are just my 2 cents. I love the guide and I admire all the members that put long hard hours into a passion that we all share.

Cheers

One of the best parts about the Guide in my opinion, is getting to read descriptions about the games. There are so many in there that I've never even heard of, so it's nice to see a brief description of the storyline and how the gameplay works... I also like the idea of including magazine reviews like has been done in a lot of the other sections of the guide.

One of the things I'd definitely like to see is descriptions for the sports games that highlight changes over the previous year. I mean, if I decide to get a hockey game for the Playstation, there's no need for me to get ALL of them if one of them is clearly superior... and it's not always the most recent one that's the best either, so a quick rundown of things would be very helpful (The Genesis section actually did a very nice job of this). For example, I remember playing (I think) NHL 2000, and the fighting was absolutely terrible, the worst I've ever seen in any hockey game. The players just punched as fast as you could hit the button, and the fight was over in 2 seconds.

Similarly, an emphasis on the changes between sequels of a game would be nice so you know if they actually added new characters, moves, powerups and such, or if they just made new levels.

It might also be useful to mention when a game is available on another system too, especially if alternate versions are better/worse. No point in picking up a PSX version if the game is better on the Saturn or N64, or vice versa.

I'm always wanting to know if a game came with any form of pack-in material (maps, monster charts, etc.) So if it is possible to list that I think it would be great.

The last number I have confirmed at the moment is Beyblade at 4093. At this early it's a very rough guess is that there's >5000 with *all* the variants included (not all are with different number) and <3000 unique games.

I love reading short descriptions of the games and, if possible on some of the rarer games, a number of how many copies were made. I don't know, I always feel like I have an edge when I know (or have some idea) of how many were made.

Also, the Santulli Slant. :D Only the best and the worst (and sometimes the average, too) get this great symbol, and I read all of them that I find... though that might have me reading my guide more often than I already do... ;)

After several conspiracies and a few kinks to work out, Stu and I have started the updates. Right now we're slowly going through the list updating the variant / case type / oddities thast were missing the first time around. Once we have that taken care of, we can begin working on the fleshing out of descriptions, reviews, trivia, etc.

Personally, I'd like to see the major differences in the original and greatest hits versions, and some fun facts about the games.

Other than that, all looks great already, but still theres a lot you can do to make it a lot better. You guys are perfect for the job, good luck!

I"m glad someone is actually reading that drivel! :)

I own hundreds of PSX games but I don't think I have a "Slant" on a single one. I really should get on that.

Yeah, I'd like to see this too. The DP Advance guide does a pretty good job at listing whatever extras came with a game, but there are allot of games in the section that have no mention of maps/charts being included.

Also, I don't know if this is the right place to mention it, but there is a error with one of the rarity listings in the PSX section. Namco Museum Vol. 5 is given a $5/R2. I know the games are always priced on the low-side, but $5/R2 is ridiculous for this game. I always figured it at least a $20/R5. $30 is a more practical price for it though.

I don't mean to be a dick and contradict the people that spent so much time creating the list, but I thought it should be mentioned.

I would just like to announce that I FINALLY have screen capturing capabilities back (thanks to my tech savy ex-coworker) and wanted to let you all know about your comments.

I have copy and pasted all ideas (everything, literally) and will soon be working on a checklist template for both future game-rave.com updates and digitpress upgrades. There were a TON of great ideas, KEEP THEM coming. I have tomorrow off, so I will be doing some preliminary test runs on two new page set-ups that would incorporate as many of the above ideas into one.

As for the reviews in DP, me Steve and I need to see if Joe would let us get out 2 cents in there, ie our own version of the Santulli slant. Somehow Dvorak's Dirt just doesn't have the same nice ring to it. Maybe Jason's Jive or something.

He who now has RENEWED vigor in updating,

Since DB has the day off, I'm making tomorrow my official Update day.... I need to update some personal lists and things, and tomorrow will also be the day that I get the primary fixes and whatnot done and sent off for updating for the PSX DP page as well.

Thanks for the note on the Namco Museum Vol 5. Its been duly noted, as has everything else mentioned here and in a few other threads.

If theres anything seen that needs to be pointed out , dont hesitate to PM me as i've got the list for updatin and such

We're working on that, but this is in all honesty right now, there isnt any difinitive list (other than say x number of GH games... or x Longboxed titles). We are discovering all kinds of random things as we eBay scour and do our constant searches for games... Things we didnt know existed, and things that we thought were just myths. So give us some time, and as you'll see most of that will start to show up in the updates. Please also remember that this isnt something like the NGPC where theres 32 us released games. We're looking at 1270+. It might take a little time.

Okay, it's currently 4am and Papstu and I have spent the last 2 hours FINALLY deciphering some of the Working Designs variant madness. That said, I wanted to show people just how dedicated we really are when we said we wanted your ideas and would use them.

After finally getting the screen capture up and running, and Frontpage installed, I give you the brand new game page layout for Game-Rave.com, and what you can look forward to in DP Advance as we move the information over to the DP Data Base.

Here are the first two steps in the making of greatness:

1. King of Fighters '95 (basic game page)
http://www.game-rave.com/psx/playstation_perfect_guide/releasedgames/kof_95/index.html

2. Alundra (varaint game page, Map Included game page)
http://www.game-rave.com/psx/playstation_perfect_guide/releasedgames/alundra/index.html

Also, the Master Release List page got a HUGE face lift.
http://www.game-rave.com/psx/playstation_perfect_guide/releasedgames/index.html

Note in just two pages, we've covered 99% of the ideas, from specifc screen caps, to trivia, to variants, etc.

We're here fo you guys. Let us know how we're doing. :D

With the new page set-up in place, I should be able to get to more frequent updates.

Off to a sleep coma,
Jason

I've been lightly collecting NES and Genny now for about two years.....and unless I know the content of a game, I'll usually take note of a title, run home and hop onto here in order to find out whether the game "sucked" or not before I buy it.

Having a brief description of the game is a given.....but I like it if there is also a "general consensus" as to whether the game was garbage or great. What made it stink? What made it phenomenal?

One or two in-game screenshots is nice....I do like the title screen shots as well. Packaging variants are good. Any rarer covers that the collector should look out for? Misprints as well.

A difficulty rating scale is also helpful, although not entirely necessary.

Just follow the formula for the other systems on here and you can't go wrong. DP is an invaluable gaming site.

Hey guys,

Looking great so far! I'm working with one other guy on the last few developers, then I'll forward my database to you - I've triple-checked everything from the release dates to the developers, so you should find the information accurate. As for the reviews and game info, I leave that up to you.

Peace,
