Normally, I loathe posting a "What is this?" thread, because I usually know where to go for my info. However, KLOV is down at the moment and this question is driving. Me. Nuts.
Anyway, I used to play an arcade game that had different "subgames" like Track and Field and HyperSports did. Only this was based on lumberjack events. The two events I remember was sawing the end off of a log (shift the joystick left, tap the button like a maniac as the guy sawed, shift it to the right, tap-tap-tap, back again, etc.) and pounding stakes into the ground (tap the button and he'd lift a mallet over his head and pound the stake, if he was off-center, shift joy left or right to center him up. The more centered he was, the better he was able to hit the stake square on).
Anyway, does this sound familar to anyone?
