Normally, I loathe posting a "What is this?" thread, because I usually know where to go for my info. However, KLOV is down at the moment and this question is driving. Me. Nuts.

Anyway, I used to play an arcade game that had different "subgames" like Track and Field and HyperSports did. Only this was based on lumberjack events. The two events I remember was sawing the end off of a log (shift the joystick left, tap the button like a maniac as the guy sawed, shift it to the right, tap-tap-tap, back again, etc.) and pounding stakes into the ground (tap the button and he'd lift a mallet over his head and pound the stake, if he was off-center, shift joy left or right to center him up. The more centered he was, the better he was able to hit the stake square on).

Anyway, does this sound familar to anyone?

I think that Timber is that game you search of.

I thought all Timber had was the chopping down of trees, and then the ocasional log roll bonus round. Unless you need to get further than 6 levels in there are no other "events" in that one at all.

It is not, not, not Timber. I played Timber in the arcades, and I have MAT2. Timber ain't it. In fact, I don't remember any standard "cutting down trees" events. More like the stuff you'd see at Lumberjack Games.

Good news: I know exactly the game that you speak of.

Bad news: I forgot the name of it as well. D'oh!

It's not Timber; it's more of an early 80's game, like something made around '81 or '82. And if I also remember correctly, it was made by a lesser known company.

Anyways, I'll keep looking myself. It's been bugging me as well.

Found it! It's "Strength & Skill", made in 1984 by Sun Electronics. I'm almost certain of it.

It also goes by the name of "The Guiness" in Japan.

BINGO! Man, I *never* would've picked up on Strength & Skill. What a bizarre-tells-you-nothing game name. I just read a description of the other events and - yup - I remember "plate spinning' as another event, but didn't mention it 'cause I thought my memory was faulty.

Thanks for the assist!

I remember you had to flip up baby birdies/chickens up into their nests by pressing buttons before they fall off the ledge/tree branch and die. I don't think it was Flicky because Flicky had a main character and this game had none.

Heh, I knew what you were talking about too because I've played it on MAME, but couldn't remember the name either.

I think I'll go start it up right now just for the heck of it.
