So, how do most of you have your systems listed (if you do)?

I have not yet begun to tackle this, but really need to. Any suggestions? It would be nice to have it so other people can look at it as well.

Thanks!
Brian

Well, I know there's a PC software on the market for this, called Game Collector (http://www.collectorz.com/game/). It costs $25 for the standard version (a free trial version, limited to 50 games, is available), or $40 for the Pro version (the extra $15 is probably worth it if you want to publish it in HTML format). BTW, a Mac OS X version is slated for release in Q1 2005.

I have mine on a spreadsheet format. Looks really nice with columns and such.

I just saw this posted recently and I dropped the $40 on the Pro version. Yeah, that $40 could have gone to buying a game, but I figured I'd get my money's worth out of it. I've only input about 1/8 of my collection so far, but I have to say that I don't regret buying it at all.

Kinda strange since I have Excel and can make spreadsheets somewhat proficiently. :)

I like the fact in Game Collector you can link box art and such to each entry. So if you want you can take a digital pic of each game and see exactly what you own and what condition its in.

Does it have a way to list Hardware as well, like controllers, cd add-ons, etc? If it does, maybe I will give it a shot.

I have noticed quite a few people with IGN links for their collections, whats up with that? It a monthly subscription thing online or something?

Thanks!

You can add to the game collector to make your own entries about the hardware/accessories. I plan on doing that myself. The Game Collector program fills in a lot of information on the actual games. You'd have to manually add all of the system info.

IGN's collector site isn't subscription based, I'm pretty sure it's still free to use. You'll find that it doesn't list everything, and has no place for hardware and accessories. A few things here or there, but that's it.

I'm still sticking with Microsoft Access.

In one database (different tables, of course) I have all my games, all my ROMs, all my PC software, music, and more. Then I have an ASP front end that lets me search for whatever I want.

One think I added is a feature where you can add graphics very easily. All you have to do is drop a .jpg file with the same name as a game and it will automatically search when you do a query. If no file exists, no graphic is shown. So if I want to add a screen shot for Tony Hawk 3 to my database, all I have to do is add a Tony Hawk 3.jpg to the pictures directory.

I also have it set for two levels, so everything that's displayed is a hyperlink. For example, if you search for "Tony Hawk", it'll show all my games that have Tony Hawk in the title, but they will all be hyperlinks. Click on any one of them, and it'll show you the details of the game, along with the screen shot. I'll try and take some screen shots of it in action, it'll make more sense then.

I use IGN's and TGN to list most of my games. The older stuff like genesis games aren't listed.

I know I've said it a dozen times already, but I've come through in the past, right?

Someday soon you will be able to create your own lists using our online database. The lists will be web-browseable and you'll be able to log not only what you own but also what you want and what you have to trade. As it stands your personal collection list will be linked using your forum handle/password.

Oh yeah. And it will be free.

Details to come.

I can't wait for the DP one, and I'll certainly be switching to it (man, not looking forward to all that data entry then though!!!)

Here's a couple of screen shots of the one I wrote that I'm currently using.

http://www.robohara.com/junk/search1.jpg

A search for Tony Hawk in PS2.

http://www.robohara.com/junk/search2.jpg

Results for Tony Hawk in PS2, with links to more details.

http://www.robohara.com/junk/search3.jpg

Detail screen for Tony Hawk 3. Screen shot, and additional information presented. I actually have more information in my database, like when/where I got the game, condition, etc, which could be added to that detail screen with just changes in the HTML.

I'm using PlayRight for online purposes, see link in sig. It's similar to IGN, but it actually lets you add new titles (which get verified by a moderator) and also hardware/accessories etc.

The upcoming dp one sounds nice as well though :D

I'm doubtful that it will be done by the end of the year, it depends heavily on Adam's "day job" schedule.

Also, you won't need to do ANY data entry, other than adding your own comments; the concept is that you can click a checkbox or a button while viewing the game list, indicating that you own, want, or want to trade that game. The checked boxes virtually "move over" the content to your personal area. So while you may be checking off games for a week straight, you won't have to actually type them in.
