Nov. 21 - three days after my birthday! ;)

It's a Sunday, which is strange for a launch, but hey, whatever works.

I don't like it :P Looks just as the ugly as the GBA ones - I was shocked to see how much cooler the Jap GBA boxes look like without the ugly arc on the left with the giant GBA logo, compared to the US/EUR ones :/

All this rendered crap - back in the days gamecovers were still handpainted, now the lazy bums just use sterile looking 3D graphics or photos! :P

I guess it's alright... nothing terribly exciting, fairly bland actually. I guarantee the JP versions will look better no matter what (and cost $10-20 dollars more too of course)

The games come in plastic shell cases a la NGPC. Which just has to be a huge improvement over the cardboard shite Ninty have always used. At last, quality packaging :) !

Hey! Leave Luigi out of this.

Well, I read a preview of this game at GameSpot and it mentioned nothing of whether the actual game will be in the game. I don't give a flying fuck about multi-player games. I want the single-player game. I keep hearing about it being in the game, but I have not read about it. I am worried and not buying a DS until I know I can play Super Mario 64 on the DS. Screw multi-player. I wanna play with myself!!! LOL

Spoilers for those of you who care!

Yes, the whole game is in there.

Also, instead of 120 stars, there are now 150 stars.

There are also several new, exclusive levels that were not featured in the original.

Apparently, you start out as Yoshi, and then you can end up picking between the four (Yoshi, Mario, Luigi, Wario). All four control differently. You also now have powerup abilities (Yoshi breathes fire for example), though I'm not sure what they all are.

I've read several things that say this game is so far different (different in the new sense - not so much that it's a brand new game, but I read it being described as if it felt like a sequel to Mario 64) from the original that it could seriously be a contender for Game of the Year all over again. That I do not know, but if it's half as much fun as the original Mario 64 was, then it will be a blast!

I am curious how close to the original it is. Are the paintings still there? Are there more levels now I guess? Either way, I hope there's a demo kiosk somewhere playing this game so I can try it out first. (I'm wondering how it'll handle without a control stick. A 3D system without a stick just doesn't seem right these days.

Not bad. Reminds me kind of of the Dreamcast box.

Whoops!

I edited that too late!

Like I said, it's the same game, but it's not. A lot of people said it felt as if it were a sequel in the same line as the original.

As far as control, I think you can use either the d-pad, or your thumb (or the stylus) on the touch screen. I have this feeling that using the touch screen like that will end up feeling similar to an analog - you can slide your thumb around in any direction (instead of just up/down/left/right).

In reality though, I tend to use the d-pad on the PS2 far more than I do the analog stick anyway, so I don't think it will be much of any adjustment on my part.

Damn, I keep wanting the DS more and more every day. I really need mario 64 DS after reading all that. Can't wait to play as yoshi!!

BTW, Feel the magic is best described as a Dating sim meets wario ware. It looks really interesting, and definitely unique. Here's a preveiw: http://ds.ign.com/articles/554/554126p1.html

It's kinda like warioware +1, except it's all about you being some girls bitch. Use the touch screen to wipe sand off her body, but don't wipe too hard, blow into the microphone to blow candles out, use the stylus to pick bugs off her back, ect. Weird shit.

I don't like it. It looks kinda cool I guess, BUT one problem. The boxes are probably going to be un neccesarily large. I would like it much more if they were smaller, just cased the game and a small instruction manual. Like the famicom mini games.

Here's a wee link to 15 minutes of footage etc from Mario64 DS:

http://www.gamespot.com/ds/action/dssupermario4x4/media.html?gcst=mariods_demo1007.asx

It's the 5th link down - if you just stream it you don't need to subscribe (I do subscribe but the fucker still won't download!)

Thought I 'd share it with you to put speculation and cynicism to rest. It looks groovy to me :-P

MarioAllStar2600: I like the idea of wee boxes as well but it just doesn't make sense from a marketing point of view - no footprint means no profile in the shops...

'Tis pretty Mariotastic, eh? Even the fact that you start the game off as Yoshi is pretty cool - I never saw that one coming!

It loaded and I have to say, that fucking kicks ASS!

My GOD! They've taken one of the best platformers and somehow made it even better! My GOD it kicks so much booty! I cannot wait to get in there.

And I have to say one thing.. SUPER Mario is back, baby! When he ate the mushroom and got huge, tears came to my eyes. That was so good. I cannot wait for this now. I WILL be getting it the day it comes out for sure.

I got a kick out of the upper advantage Luigi has now...I wanna see Wario in action...but when he opened that door in the right wing...and 4 doors were in there...that's when I started to think "This isn't the same game is it?"

November 21st seems like such a long way off now.
