View Full Version : Does anyone collect E-reader cards?

I was just thinking recently that I would like to have a complete collection of games for a system. I decided to do something easy, with not many rare pieces, that also sells for cheap. Then it hit me, E-reader cards. First off most of the classic NES series sells for redicously cheap. There are also promo cards though, which makes it a little more fun to collect. Then you have the animal crossing and pokemon cards. That puts the "game" limit to around 1000 different cards/games. Does anyone out there collect E-reader cards, and if someone does, is there a list I can look at to see what cards have been released and, if possible, rarity?
On a different subject, does anyone know if JP e-reader cards work on american systems? I have heard NOTHING about JP e-reader games. are there alot of them to collect?

Don't know anything about a list but I started picking them up when they first came out.
And just kept buying all I could find that's different that I don't have..I see them now for $.99 in stores..
I don't even have an - reader and I still buy the cards.. :P ...
I'll buy one of of these day...I'm hoping to find one at the flea market.
I have these two E reader cards I got out of Game Magazines.
I think it was Gamepro that had them.
Does anyone have a E-Reader card games round-up? Since they are not available in Europe, I would love to know how many there are to collect.

I've collected e-Reader cards for the past couple years. I've compiled a pretty good list, it's somewhere on my harddrive, I'll try and dig it up.
If you include Pokemon cards, there are well over a thousand different E-Reader cards, and a few were distributed in VERY limited quantities (less than 30 of each @_@ ).
There are also some variations, Pokemon cards that were mis-printed then re-issued in corrected form.

I do, and am getting fairly close to completing the collection. I'm only missing 6 AX cards, a dozen or so promos, and a few sets of the Pokemon TCG series.
There are some rare cards out there. You will have to spend about $20 just to land one card.
I don't have any of the "prototype" pokemon cards, and these will be the hardest to get. I have never seen one exist or be put up for sale, and I have been looking for over a year.

I have pretty much all the eReader cards, if you don't count Animal Crossing and Pokemon (I decided to limit my Pokemon TCG cards up to the end of the Neo expansion, there are just too many!)
It's too bad that nobody really gave the eReader a shot, I think it's a really neat concept. NOA considers it dead, since they've removed support from F-Zero GP and Pikmin 2. I did ask them about the Mario 3 series 3 &4 cards and they said they're still coming out.
However, I have heard that there are eReader hooks in the US releases of Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen, so you should probably keep an eye out for any "Eon Ticket" style promos in Nintendo Power...
Oh, and Japanese ecards won't work in US readers and vice versa. And you can actually pick up a used eReader from Gamestop for under ten bucks. Not bad.

e-Reader links in Fire Red and Leaf Green will not be happening. Those games rely on the new Wireless Adapter, which is Nintendo's new gimmicky device to replace the e-Reader. I wish they had supported the e-Reader more myself, but oh well.
The latest Pokemon card series to be released do NOT have any e-Reader strips on them. Animal Crossing cards are difficult to collect at this point since they don't seem to be selling the packs any longer.
The most difficult ones to obtain at this point are probably:
-the rare Pokemon e-Reader cards (star in the corner). I don't believe that there are any ultra-rare (triple star) ones with e-Reader info on them...BUT there are a few Promos that are somewhat difficult to get, namely the Rapidash and Ho-Oh promo cards from the first Black Star promo series. Together they make this little Rapidash e-Reader game.
-the Nintendo Power promos, namely the NES Link pattern for Animal Crossing, the Eon Ticket, and...wasn't there one other one?
-the Super Mario Bros. 3 Wal-Mart pre-order promos. There are four cards that could only be obtained if you pre-ordered the game from Wal-Mart, and they can be very difficult to find.
You will probably not find Urban Champion in the stores, but you can order all the NES games from Nintendo's website for $5 a pack including this one. The Air Hockey promo is a dime a dozen, literally. Not sure - am I missing anything here?

I collect 'em. I still need to get a couple of the games, can't remember which ones though. I haven't collected the SMB or AC cards up to this point since I don't have AC, and can't find the SMB cards anywhere...
Who knows though, I may go back and buy Pokemon cards :)

LOL AX and Pokemon TCG cards equate to over 90% of the e-card collection :P

The self labelled rare Pokemon cards aren't really that rare. All of them are rather easy to get. Some of the Pokemon promos are rare and a bit tougher to find, but they all crop up eventually, ie the Ho-oh and Rapidash Pokemon Center NY variants etc etc.
The Nintendo Power Promos arent terribly hard to get either. The Nintendo Power cards are: AX Link, EON Ticket, Kyogre and Gryodon (however you spell that) and Ho-oh and Rapidash.
The hardest cards to find (without a doubt):
Walmart Super Mario 3e exclusive 5 card set (there were 5, not 4)
E3 2002 Special Edition 4 card pack
The dozen or so different "prototype" cards that I mentioned before I have never even seen.[/quote]
Good luck trying to get a complete set of Animal Crossing series 1 cards. They go for a crapload on eBay.
There's also the new Metal Slug Advance cards coming out (awesome), and don't forget the Pokemon Battle Card sets (50% off at my local TRU!).

i have all 13 NES games, all 4 series of Animal Crossing cards, the 2 super mario bros. 3 sets and various promo cards and what not. i dont like the pokemon cards, so i dont have those, but i will be getting the metal slug cards when they come out
somehow i cant find my packaging for donkey kong jr.-e....so if anyone has a sealed pack of these that they got cheap, let me know....i would pay pal you $2.50 for a pack or i have a couple spare packs of urban champion-e that i would be happy to trade a pack for a pack...my urban champions are sealed, so i would expect the donkey kong jr. to be the same

Famitsu cube + advance magazine promo - White candypop flower

My latest find was the Mario VS Donkey kong card-e+ set. These cards are incredibly rare as they were given away as a competition prize in the august edition of coro coro comics & are limited to only 1000 made.

Here's a rough list of all the series of e-cards released in japan. I havent included the many many many series of pokemon cards or promos
There are 2 versions of the e-reader in japan, the e-reader & the e-reader+ the first version didnt have a link port on & the 2nd version is the same design as the american version with the link port.
Here are all the card-e series for the 1st version of the e-reader
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Doubutsu no mori card e series 1
Doubutsu no mori card e series 2
Doubutsu no mori card e series 3
Doubutsu no mori card e series 4
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ngc/gafj/card_e/index.html
Domokun card e winter pack
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/adoj/card_e/index.html
Hamtaro card e
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/hardware/card_e/e_hamu/index.html
Here are all the series for the 2nd version of the e-reader (e-reader+)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Doubutsu no mori card e+ series 1
Doubutsu no mori card e+ series 2
Doubutsu no mori card e+ series 3
Super mario advance 4 card e+ series 1
Super mario advance 4 card e+ series 2
F-zero Falcon densetsu card e+
Rockman EXE 4 card e+
Pikmin puzzle card e+ Hikkonuki Pikmin pack 1 (series 1)
Pikmin puzzle card e+ Hikkonuki Pikmin pack 2 (series 1)
Pikmin puzzle card e+ Hikkonuki Pikmin pack 3 (series 2)
Pikmin puzzle card e+ Hikkonuki Pikmin pack 4 (series 2)
Pikmin puzzle card e+ Tekuteku Pikmin pack 1 (series 1)
Pikmin puzzle card e+ Tekuteku Pikmin pack 2 (series 1)
Pikmin puzzle card e+ Tekuteku Pikmin pack 3 (series 2)
Pikmin puzzle card e+ Tekuteku Pikmin pack 4 (series 2)
Pikmin puzzle card e+ Tsunagete Pikmin pack 1 (series 1)
Pikmin puzzle card e+ Tsunagete Pikmin pack 2 (series 1)
Pikmin puzzle card e+ Tsunagete Pikmin pack 3 (series 2)
Pikmin puzzle card e+ Tsunagete Pikmin pack 4 (series 2)
Mario VS Donkey kong card e+
A thing to remember is the e+ cards will not work on the older version of the e-reader without the link port. If you try to scan them in you will get a error screen. You can however use the older e cards on the new e+ e-reader with the link port.
So as you can see by the list there is a massive amount of e-cards to collect. The hard part will be to track them down the japanese cards are a nightmare to find. Very few online stores sell them and even my friiend in japan found it very difficult to find certain series.
Anyway hope thats of some help to you all :D

So... who here owns an e-reader+ (JP)?
I've got an American one and the Japanese one... I sure do wish that I had some more Japanese cards, though--here are the Japanese ones that I have:
-almost complete set of Doubutsu no Mori series 1
-the pack of cards that came with the e-reader+
-the entire Pikmin 2 set
I'm always looking for other Japanese cards...

The Nintendo Power Promos arent terribly hard to get either. The Nintendo Power cards are: AX Link, EON Ticket, Kyogre and Gryodon (however you spell that) and Ho-oh and Rapidash.
AX Link? What is that one? I've got all those other ones, but I haven't ever seen that one in Nintendo Power, and I've got a subscription to it. Details please.

Well, sadly for me, I can't use them as I have the US version of Pikmin 2... but I got my packs from here:
http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-28-77-3-15-pikmin+2-70-4li.html
The total came to around US$14 after shipping. Pretty good deal IMO.

The Mario VS donkey kong card set cost me roughly $37 quite expensive for just 5 cards but their rarity makes it worth every penny. Im still waiting for them to arrive from my friend in japan. I can't wait to try the new levels. :D
Sadly i only have 1 set of them, i didn't even know they existed till i saw them for the first time.
These are probably the rarest e-cards you can find in japan (excluding pokemon promo/triple black star/ tournament e-cards)
