View Full Version : Sega hook-ups will be the death of me...

I can't for the life of me figure out all the compatibility issues of the hook-ups for the Genesis 1, 2, 3, Sega CD 1, 2, X'Eye, CDX, etc. I have tons of hook-ups, and I can't even remember what works with what. So... today I got my CDX, and not only does the plug say that it's for Game Gear, but the end is also cut off for some unknown reason... Just exposed wires. o_O Now I'm stuck trying to figure out what I can safely use to power the system.

I have 3 Genesis plugs (one I use with my Genesis 1, another I use with the Sega CD 2, and a third I plan to sell with a spare Genesis 1). I'm pretty positive that they all look like this one:

Big, bulky, with those "grips" or whatever they are in the plastic on the sides and top.

I also have/had a Genesis 3 plug, but it's been missing for at least a year. :/

So, can I use one of those 3 plugs safely with the CDX? I assume they're Genesis 1 plugs, and I think I read that the CDX can use a Genesis 2 plug? Is there any difference besides in looks? Is it safe using that plug with the Sega CD 2? It's worked fine, and that's what came with the boxed Sega CD I got recently (although it's always possible that the previous owner got the plugs mixed up).

I find all this stuff overcomplicated and frustrating. >_< Somebody please help clear this up for me before I go insane. :P

Yeah, the Sega CD and the other stuff are pains in the ass to hook up. Try doing a Genesis, a Sega CD, and a 32X. Each has their own power supply, and each has their own hook ups. x_x

Genesis locks onto what Nintendon't*

*requires twenty times the storage and electricity though

Just another example of how Sega's traditional predilection for insanely obscure and specialized pieces of hardware. The scariest part is that the Mega Drive wasn't much worse than the SG-1000 - Mark III years for Sega, in Japan.

The Sega Genesis 2 plug (with the smaller yellow tip ) works on the Sega Genesis 2, 3, Nomad, Cdx .
The Sega Genesis 1 plug won't work on those systems but will work on the Sega Cd.
