Haven't played a MMORPG in WAY too long. Can't wait, anyone else on here getting it? I've had it pre-ordered for quite a while. Was really let down by the character creation tool they've been going on and on about though....

A. - You can't MAKE you're character, on the physical appearance. I suppose it's due to the way you make your character as you play, but I'm used to picking "mage" "50 intelligence, 15 strength" etc... etc...

B. - I thought all the characters looked WAY too close to each other. Who the hell is going to notice my cheekbones, or how pointed/long my chin is? On the other hand, if I had been able to make my char fatter or thinner to a bigger degree, or bigger/smaller breasts/biceps/eyes it would have been a much bigger difference.

Really though... I can't believe how detailed the chin process is.... and how UNdetailed a lot of the rest of the char design is.

I'm not looking forward to it at all, during all of my time spent on EQ, SOE delivered nothing but perpetual letdown.

I do hope you enjoy it, though.

Glory to the Many who have posted before me - I am a voice in their chorus. The original EverQuest had lots of charm, but lackluster gameplay that offered nothing but mindless and repetetive combat.

I played Everquest 1 for years, and i'm not going anywhere near Everquest 2. If you actually enjoyed EQ's gameplay and style, your really not going to enjoy EQ2 at all. We had some of our guild in early beta, so i've been getting reports during it's entire development. It's more like Star Wars Galaxies then it is Everquest.

So instead - We are heading to Worlds of Warcraft, which if your into these games - Shows loads more promise, and is run by a company that lacks a history of extending it's middle finger to most of the playerbase.

And this isn't coming from some EQ hater. I played the game for years, and even ran a free alternative rules Everquest server for most of this year. (Not up anymore, if anyone cares - the URL is in my sig) EQ2 is just such a drastic difference from EQ1, that if your looking for a majorly updated game with a similar feel - This is not it.

As a long time EQ player I was unimpressed with EQ2's gameplay.. They should have just evolver EQ1 into a new graphics system and a future world on the planet.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.. I've heard that before, but if you played EQ1 then you know how long the boats were broken.. It was broke.. and they didn't fix it. :(

If it ain't broke don't fix it..

Really... more like, "If it's still broke, don't make a sequel."

You know.. the sad thing is I'm going to buy it anyway because I thought EQ1 sucked until I got to around level 16..

I played EQ, got to lvl 60 the 65, and was in the best guiild on my server, doing all the high end content ect. While I enjoyed EQ ALOT, I will NOT play EQ2, it is EQ in name only. I loved EQ because you could basically devote your whole life to it and still not be the best. Getting into the best guild on the server was one of the best days I've had.

Wow historian, how's that 89th post treating you?

Actually, I didn't care for Everquest at all. And I've heard this one is going to be a bit different, which is the main reason that I'm getting it :)
I will be watching for WOW though, I've heard nothing but great things about it, but I've never liked playing ANY of blizzard's games online. Diablo being by FAR the worst.
Now don't get me wrong, Blizzard probably IS one of the greatest game makers of all time, I just don't like their ONLINE play so far. (and Warcraft 3 was a little bit of a letdown IMO)
In order:

Ultima Online - Greatest MMORPG ever
Asherons Call - Underrated, I really liked this one.
AC2 - They F*$&ed the release of this game bad, should have waited another 6 months. Another reason I'm looking forward to EQ2, they actually delayed it about a year to FINISH the game.

EQ1 - I beta tested this. Which, anyone who plays MMORPGS should know, if you beta test a game, you're GOING to hate it. I tried again years later, but by then, the player base was all level uber, and it was very hard to get into with noone around.

89th wasn't bad.. Feel like I slept through it... ;)

I guess I never understood all the hype over EQ.. I did play a years worth of Asheron's Call, but I really never had a character past 16th level. I'd kill them off and start over. I was a part of the early Beta and still managed to enjoy it.

I enjoyed pure exploration. Getting to that area that no one or very few had gotten too. This proved most thrilling when I'd have to run like a mad man from mobs that could kill my character in a hit or two..

AC2 just didn't feel like AC to me. There were two many changes, at least to me. I tried the beta and Purchased but canceled after my free month...

The Matrix Online looks interesting. As it lets you reconfigure you character based on how you want to play that day... That is kind of nice...

Nothing like taking the flavor of the month character a step further I suppose, heh.

If anyone else on here IS playing, anyone have a server in mind? Wouldn't suck if we were all on the same one.

ZZzzZZzzZZzzZZzzZZzz...

Too much repetative combat and nothing else.

I guess I never liked the idea I was paying around 13 bux a month to get fatter. :/

I played a good bit of EQ back inthe day. It fell out of favor with me because, I think, you can't win. The same is true of all MMORPGs. I played DOAC for a while, too. I found it a much better experience, and with the questing system, you did feel like you accomplished something, sometimes. But, ultimately, I grew bored of it as well. Yer right about beta-ing a game. I beta'd Anarchy Online. It was nasty, and ruined any chance of me playing the game upon release.

One other aspect of playing MMORPGs I dislike is the social aspect. It's cool to team up once in a while and knock the snot out of some little beastie together. But, I much prefer soloing. Just more my style, I guess. There should be a larger accomodation for players who wish to solo. I'm not saying make the game 100% soloable. Just include plenty of things for the solo player to do. If my character's a ranger, I should be able to wander around by myself sometimes.

I have no preference. Just whatever at the moment. The only three people I still talk to from my old EQ days are not going to play.

i agree, i played a necro on eq and was more suited to solo than i was to grouping, yet necros got nerfed to be weaker and couldnt solo much at higher levels as easily

Depending on how much the monthly fee is I might try it. I tried MMORPG's with City of Heroes and got bored with it fast because it was so repetitive and was bleeding me for $15 a month. I'm not big into those types of games because of the sameness of them, but I'm not adverse to them. If a really inventive one comes along with a lot of different stuff to do I'll check it out. Anyone know how much EQ2 will charge to play?

I'm SURE it will be right around the $15 per month mark. I've never understood the complaints about monthly fee's, but then, I'm one of the ones that sinks 30-50 hours per week into them, so it seems like nothing to me ($15 per month for 100+ hours of gameplay. Pretty friggin good deal)
