What in GODS name possessed them to put a quote from GMR on their freaking cover?

Oy...

As I'm not quite up to date with all these trendy alphabet soup abbreviations, what's GMR? I should know, but it doesn't ring a bell.

I'm not exactly up on my video game mags either, but I believe that "GMR" is the magazine that EBGames makes.

GMR is published by ZD (they of Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine and Computer Gaming World), and is EB's in-house answer to GameStop's Game Informer.

As for why SEGA placed a GMR pullquote on the cover of Otogi 2? Probably because GMR had nice things to say about the game. :)

I work for EB and I'm still willing to admit that GMR is just horrid horrid horrid as far as magazines go :P

Putting a quote from GMR on your COVER (not just your back) is baffling heh

Actually, GMR has had some decent articles. The reviews are crap, though.

It's better than puttting a Maxim review on the cover.

It was a pretty fun game, but I saw no reason to take up more HDD space after finishing it. GMR is one of the worst magazines I've ever read. Gamegeezer or whatever it is bites hard.

I think the best ZD mag has to be XBN. I don't care for the reviews so much, but it reminds me of the (short-lived) Official Dreamcast Mag, which it should since Evan Shamoon is there, but it's also got Che Chou who's pretty cool. I will say that the Astro Boy feature a few months ago in GMR was good stuff though.

Oh come on it can't be as bad as putting a Maxim quote on the cover of Sudeki.

Well, when the catchphrase for your game is "We have sexier heroines" then Maxim is probably the place to go heh

At least GMR is better than Game Informer. I actually kind of like it. They have had some nice features on shumps and racing in the past.

As for quotes on boxes, I am in full agreement. The most infuriating quote on a box for me has to be the IGN quote on the GC version of Ikaruga. Soils an otherwise sound package.

You can say that again. maxim gives everything 4 stars no matter what, as long as theres cleavage and violence

Seconded. I've been getting this one and it's a ton of fun to read. The recent Making of Halo article filled me in on a lot of interesting facts regarding the game's relationship to Marathon and its place in Apple Computers history. The magazine is overall pretty awesome.

I will say that Tom vs. Bruce in 1up.com's Computer Gaming World is a fun read, too.

I love Gamegeezer! He says some seriously funny shite in my opinion. Actually, I love both store-sponsored mags, though their reviews are often way off base.

Still fun to read.

GMR sucks big balls. Heck, it sucks small ones too. Some of the Ziff Davis people are nice though.

THE ONE, THE ONLY- RCM

I like Play myself. I will second that GMR has some nice articles from time to time. Reviews in all mags suck though.

It's just plain terrible to put quotes on the covers.

Part of the draw to collecting is the art on the packaging.

Ruining it with quotes just plain blows.

The Guilty Gear Reloaded is another prime example.

Who gives a rat's ass what some magazine says.

If the game is good, it's good - and you don't need quotes to help sell it.

Putting quotes on games these days always reminds me of the NES Camerica games where the stupid ass quotes from Thor Ackerland would always be emblazoned on the cover.

"World Champion Thor Ackerland says, 'Blah, blah, blah - this game is awesome.'"

It makes sense for bad games to put quotes - it might help sell a couple more copies.

Ikaruga and Guilty Gear Reloaded aren't in that category.

Sucks. Put the quotes on the back if you need them at all.

(and yes, it really does bother me.)
