It sounds like there will be semi-regulr updates for a while now too. Anyone found a decent frontend that actually works properly with the new version yet?

Nope. the frontend I saw that is supposed to work with v1.0 only shows 26 games, while there are 69.

BTW: v1.0.1 was released today, fixing up some issues with the roms being out of sync with Mame, and Tekken 3 was removed since it didn't work.

I have uploaded the roms for Zinc to a.b.e.arcade and a.b.e.misc for those who need them!

Aldo's Frontend has been updated and fixed to support all of the games supported by the current Zinc:

Wow, I actually had time to fire this up yesterday, and I must say I'm very impressed. If you have a MAME set, then you already have the Zinc set as well, just point your roms dir there. Now I ned to do some reading so I can use an actual controller, and set the renderer to go fullscreen.

For fullscreen just edit the "renderer.cfg" with notepad and change "fullscreen = 0" to "fullscreen = 1". From there you can also change the showfps to 0 (to disable the emulator from showing the fps when playing) and filtering to 3 to enable a graphic filter that makes the games looks pretty good. You can change the screen res in that config pretty easily too.

As for the controller support. There is a controller config that comes with Aldo's frontend (Winterblast) but it only works with the games from the older version of Zinc. For the newly added games you'll have to use the keyboard and hang tight for an updated controller config... which I'm sure won't take too long to surface.

PS: The option settings in Aldo's frontend will adjust the renderer.cfg file for you if you set the settings there as well!

have you checked out the updated winterblast controller plugin? I can't get the fire buttons to work for Xevious and other PSX games for some reason.
