So I bought one of these this weekend and was wondering if anybody else here had one ?

Link : http://assembler.roarvgm.com/Sharp_Nintendo_Television/sharp_nintendo_television.html

Mine Is missing the front cover where it covers the color/tint controls , but it works great. :D Is there anywhere to pick up this part ? I am thinking it almost looks like you could scavange this part from a normal sharp T.V. ??? :hmm:

Man this is going to look good once my Room o Doom is set up again.

Thats really sweet. I never knew about the combo tv/game systems.

I've got one of those in my bedroom. It's pretty sweet, but the internals are exactly the same as the toaster style systems. That means you're connector will eventually wear out, and it takes a lot more to replace that one.

I was watching the morning news on it today :)

I'd like one, but STF Titler > NES TV.

Why? If the NES TV's tube goes bad you'll have a hell of a time fixing it. I would assume the picture quality's better, near-RGB...but then again it might not be. Anybody have some input on this?

Well, I guess you've missed your chance now.

175 dollars. He wanted 200. (which is a great price IMO)

@ Ed Oscuro : The picture quality is better ;) Or at least it looks better to me.

I plan on taking it apart and doing a very good cleaning of the unit.
(I wanna see what makes this baby tick too :) )

I wouldn't doubt that, actually. OK, after the price is factored in, I'd have to say that the Sharp NES TV actually does sound* better. Doesn't mean I won't save up for a Titler though LOL

* Figuratively speaking, of course (Sharp NES TV have headphone jacks, and how's the speakers on it?) LOL

Did yours come with the strange-looking controllers, captain nintendo?

I had thought that the Sharp set originally came with controllers featuring a different color scheme than the normal NES ones.

Anybody else wanna back me up on this? Am I crazy?

It should come with black ones matching the case of the TV, yes.

Next up for me will be an M-82 unit :D

And do you have links for this "Tilter" Ed? I am guessing its an import ?

A very expensive one, yes. There's a $299 one on eBay being sold by LingJr; I'm only interested in getting a boxed, like-new one myself.

No , sadly mine did not have these with them. :(
But I do think they did come with them originally.

They did come with those controllers originally. I was bidding on one of them on eBay not too long ago, but I decided it would be stupid for me to pay more for a controller than the system itself, especially when I already had a couple dogbone controllers for it.

From what I know, the systems were sold mostly to hotels to rent games. That way, the TVs had the system built in and all that the hotel would need to hold on to was the controllers and games. The systems wouldn't have to be set up, and they could rent games at the desk. That also explains why the TV system would have been so expensive -- it wasn't meant to be a consumer good, and even though it was more expensive than a standard TV and NES, it made sense for the hotel industry. That theory makes sense to me, at least.

I got mine for $40.00. The place that was selling it sold NES systems for $50 but no one had wanted this TV (!!), knew I was a collector and had me look at the TV. I had never seen one and knew I wanted it, but had no space for it. Luckily, my fiancee was moving into a new apartment at the time and both her and her roommate didn't have a TV. After realizing this, the purchase became a natural.

And now that I'm married, the TV is mine again :)

does this play the games in RGB like someone mentioned? i just imagine that if this is a just a normal TV 'combo' unit with an NES, it would look terrible given the screen is one of those curved ones that distort everything. FLAT SCREEN ALL THE WAY.

If you had to get married to get it back, it's costing way more than $40.00. LOL LOL LOL

I believe DP guide says 100 dollars R6

But I think the last one I saw on ebay went for 400 plus.

FUN FACT: How much a thing is WORTH and how much a misinformed, impatient, or wealthy eBayer will pay often produce wildly varying numbers.

Heh, I guess I didn't think about it that way... however, I was already engaged, so I was going to be paying for that one way or another ;)

I'm actually going to have to disagree with you slightly here:

How much a thing is worth _in the wild_ and how much it can fetch on eBay are two very different things. I think that finding the TV in a non-collecting spot, you could get it for less than $100. I think that collectors are going to pay more for it because of it's rarity. All price guides by nature have this problem -- but it is especially crazy to try to keep track of stuff in the video game world because of how many different prices you can find things for. it isn't like cards, where people are often just giving away their Hank Aaron rookie cards or Honus Wagner bubble gum strips to thrifts with no clue what they are worth. Most people there know they are worth something and look it up.

That's what makes this hobby fun. You can find a lot of treasures cheaply if you keep looking. And then you can play them too :)

I agree with you , but I obviously thought this was worth 175 dollars. Otherwise I would not have bought it ;) Not to say the guide price is wrong .....

But some items I see in the wild (such as this combo I bought) dont pop up in the wild very often. I guess the amount I spent on the T.V. is just fine with me is what I am trying to get at :)

I remember when my local K mart had those in stock, I would oogle it every time I went into the store and beg my mom to buy it for me. Of course I heard "No you already have a TV and a Nintendo you aren't getting that damn thing". Needless to say I didn't get one and I probably never will. My game related spending has gone way down since I got engaged. Gotta pay for a wedding and all that. Still I think that combo is very sweet looking.

Be aware that the one on ebay right now is a PAL unit. But it does come with the converter... :/

That thing rules. Anyone know if there is a Sega one?

There was a Sega component thing that played Sega CD and Genesis games and VHS or something. They're super-rare, and I *almost* snagged one for $20.00. I didn't know what it was, and I wanted to find out for sure first. By the time I did, it was gone.

i use to have a laser disk system that also play genesis and sega cd. supposdly you could swap out the genesis peice for a turbo grafix, but i couldnt find the TG16 peice. I eventually sold it on ebay for a couple hundred...
