Our in-store (Target) e-mail claimed that GTA:SA could be the biggest-selling video game release of the year, and possibly of all time.
Wouldn't surprise me in the least -- far more people own PS2s than Xboxes, so Halo 2 can really only go for being the best-selling Xbox game of all-time.

That's good news for the gaming business, but after the first two games - I'm kind of burned out on the whole GTA formula.
I wouldn't be surprised if this one didn't sell as well as the others because many gamers are kind of tired of the same gameplay in a different setting.
But 4.5 million in the first week? Wow!

i knew this would break windwaker in half easily. hell, i knew halo 2 would. i had a pretty good feeling this would happen even before it was reported.

A GameCube game is considered a massive success if it sells ONE million units over its lifetime, so I'm not sure why you'd compare Wind Waker to anything in terms of sales records.

There's a lot that's changed, depending on your perspective. Your character is far more modifiable now (change clothes, cut your hair, add tattoos, etc.) and there's a much wider range of vehicles to "borrow" (including such fun rides as a lawnmower or any of several trains, in addition to monster trucks and big rigs). Not to mention the three distinctly different cities you'll have to travel to and from, as well as the ability to swim (a first, oddly, for this series) and fly in multiple different kinds of aircraft.
Sorry if I sound like an advertisement, but I'm really jazzed for this one. :)
Oh yeah, and OutRun 2 comes out tomorrow as well. Call it a $90 week for me. LOL
Off the record...coincidence?

I think all of this comparison is pretty early don't ya think. I mean reviewers and developers, have gone out of their way to point out that its much different compared to the last two games. I for one after seeing the ad on comedy central last night will be picking it up this week.

I'm sure we can also look forward to the boost in sales the game will get whenever Al Sharpton and his ilk get around to decrying it and calling for a boycott over its "negative portrayal of the black community" and whatever other reasons they come up with. Thus stimulating further free publicity and sales that will probably dwarf that given to Vice City by those Haitian groups.

I just got San Andreas today, it is quite an amazing game, much better than GTA III and Vice City

I'm honestly not that excited for GTA, Halo 2, Metroid Prime 2. I really liked GTA 3, but GTA VC was a poor follow up. Halo and Metroid Prime were both FPSers, so they're out for me. Leaving me to buy good games like Tales of Symphonia and Resident Evil 4.

Resident Evil 4 looks so sweet! I wish I had a Gamecube so I could play it!
