View Full Version : Half way through the holiday season... What have you gotten?

Figured I'd update my original thread. Below is the list of games I had planned on getting way back in early September through the end of the year.

The dates are jacked as they were pulled around September 8th, but the ones in red are ones I've picked up already; sheesh, only a s-ton to go. So where are you at with your holiday season next gen games list? Any games wow you? Any games make you want to cry? There have been lots of good deals around, not to mention the b2g1f deal at TrU, so it is a buyers market right now. What are you enjoying in this deluge of new titles?

My biggest suprise so far: Katamari Damacy. No need to rant about how wonderful this game is; everyone here has probably already played it, if not, do so immediately. Outstanding game.

Honorable Mention: Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude. This game is really really funny. The load times are bad, and the mini games are repetitive, but the dialog is the funniest I've probably ever heard in a game. I couldn't put this one down. A good way to live up to the LSL legacy, even if it's only in spirit and not delivery.

Biggest let down: X-Men Legends. While it's a good game, it needs a lot of work to be a great one. Tiny maps, horrible character models, and a questionable combat system really hindered what this game could have been.

Dishonorable Mention: Fable. This game is tricky. At first it almost has you beliving you're playing something wonderful because it's legitimately fun in a lot of parts. Until you really finish the game, and see the whole picture, it's hard to tell if it's a good game or not. It's not. Load time problems, again, tiny maps, and a false sense of open-endness makes this game an outstanding liar. Oh it's fun... but then again, it's really not.

2nd Dishonorable Mention: Mario Pinball Land. Mario Tennis was fun, Mario Golf was fun, why not a pinball game? Because it's retarded f'n hard that's why. Can ANYONE do the red coin goals? It's not so much 'hard' as it is you're going to break your GBA 'hard'. Tiny play zones, impossible goals, and no real sense of accomplishment make this game a passer-upper.

Well, DOA:U, Bards Tale, and Otogi 2 will hopefully be joining the ranks next week. We'll see how they do later.

I've picked up the following games so far:

Shadow Hearts: Covenant
Katamari Damacy
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
Donkey Konga

Burnout 3: Takedown
Paper Mario 2
Mortal Kombat: Deception
Fable
Gradius V
Gungrave: OD

And plan on getting the rest of these during the rest of the year:
Nintendo DS
Tiger Woods 2005 (DS)
Super Mario 64 (DS)
Feel the Magic (DS)
Mr. Driller (DS)
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Halo 2 LE
Prince of Persia 2
Taiko Drum Master
Metal Gear Solid 3
Jak 3
Half Life 2
Vampire: Bloodlines

This is the one time during the year that I'm glad I work for Gamestop.. at least I'll save a little bit of money.

Fable was by far the most disapointing game I've picked up so far. All that development time for such a linear and short RPG. Hopefully Fable 2 will have more to it. :/

I'm kinda behind a bit, so catching up plus the new releases mean a lot of game-buying over the next few months...

Got so far:

Katamary Damacy
Donkey Konga
KOTOR (Mac version)
Midway Arcade Treasures 2
Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark (Mac)
Neverwinter Nights: Shadow of Undrentide (Mac)

(Note: Yes, both expansions for NWN have been out for quite a while on PC but they were finally released officially for the Mac only recently)

Plan on getting first and foremost:

Adventure of Link (NES Classic)
Castlevania (NES Classic)
Gradius V
Paper Mario 2

Further down the line (depending on release date...)

Final Fantasy I+II
Zelda: Minish Cap
Karaoke Revolution 3
Metroid Prime 2
Tron 2.0 (Mac)

Why must so many games come out this Holiday season?! Porque?! Warum?! Dostadesuka?!

Ugh, anyways, I've picked up Street Fighter: AC (PS2), and ordered HL2. That's it. But, I'm getting MGS3 ASAP, might be getting GTA:SA (might), same with Metroid Prime 2, and I'll probably be getting Halo 2. RE4 is another one that will be bought.

It sucks, I'm cutting so many good games, just because I only have a certain amount of cash to spent on full priced games. Ah well, hopefully CAG can help me out.
