View Full Version : Potential eBay problem concerning Money Orders--Need Advice
I received two money orders over the past week from two different eBayers who had won some of my auctions. Anyway, when I am packing their goods to ship, I notice that neither of these buyers signed the money orders, left that field blank. I sent the buyers both an email, telling them about this...Anyway, you need to have the money orders signed to cash them, correct? I was always under this impression, but am beginning to wonder since two different people didn't sign the darn things. Thoughts?

No I don't think they actually need to be signed.
THey had to pay for the MO so its all yours.
As long as your the one with the name on the money order ...
like pay to: " your name "
Then its all good.

i always get postal money orders and they do not need to be signed in any way. but if i remember correctly, no money order that i've ever received had one(western union, whatever).
yeah, these are not postal money orders...they have specific spots for purchaser sigs...

It should not be a problem either way. I've had people slap address labels on money orders sometimes too busy to even pick up a pen.. x_x And often times I will receive money orders that have not been addressed to me either in any such way, luckily these arrived, should a postal clerk find, would be no trouble at all to address to themself. But I've seen alot of things with them, but it's never really been a probelm. You can even cash in your own MO if you bought one by mistake, so long as one side has a Name that is on it, they are usually ok with cashing.

I had one arrive to me without a sig and I had my mother write it on there. I mean, how the heck would the cashier know? LOL

Just remember, never ever accept money orders or cashiers checks unless they are for the exact amount of the purchase.
And Cashiers Checks can take as long as 180 days (6 months) to come back as fraudulent. Yep, you shipped that sucker months ago and now they yank the money back out of your account...

I don't take checks for that reason. If you try to cash a check and it comes back bad, then you get charged a fee. Not worth the risk IMO.

Did they reply back yet? Have you tried talking to someone at the Post Office to see what they say about it?

i send money orders for eBay all the time.
i rarely ever sign them. there is no point. it is basically like a pre-paid check. nobody has said a word to me so far about not signing mo, and it usually isn't a problem.

I pay with money orders all the time and have never signed them. Don't freak out about it just deposit them at the bank like cash- no need to clear.
Did you think that 2 different people sending money orders just forgot to sign them? LOL

I don't deal with it anymore - just because it seems there are a lot of fake money orders floating around. I have started making my auctions paypal only. I worry that I might get a few percent less for my items, but it is an order of magnitude easier.
