I want to start playing some baseball games (It's the only other sport I love *now* other than golf) I tried little league for NES and it wasn't bad but the music was annoying and trying to catch a ball in the field was tough since you can't tell where you are. What are some good baseball games for any system other than Ps2 GC and XBox because I don't own them as of yet. I am only looking for quick games and not one to play a whole series on, just to have some fun. So what are the good ones.

I recommend SNK's Baseball Stars series on the NES. I love the RPGish team/skill building, but there are plenty of pre-assembled teams for quick games. It's one of the only sports games I own. IMO the best 8-bit baseball game.
One issue is it's cost, at the game retailers that carry classic games I've seen them sell for $10-$20 ($10-$15 for 1, $15 - $20 for 2). About four months ago I got a loose one off eBay for $.99 bid + $3 S&H so It can be had cheaper :D
Another baseball game I recommend is also on the NES, Basewars. Think of it as baseball if it were played by battlebots, exept these robots are actually cool! LOL The gameplay isn't top notch but you can't deny the fun this game puts out. Possibly the best aspect of this game is eliminating the other teams players.
I always thought it would be sweet if Mega Man made an apperance in this game, as a pitcher (the pitchers fire the steel ball at the batter with a cannon mounted simular to the blue bombers
I put this game up there with the Mutant League series on the Genny. They are very simular in play though Mutant League is better IMO. No Mutant Leage Baseball game... how sad :bawling: But thats comparing apples/oranges (read, 8-bit/16-bit). I've seen Basewars in the $3-$5 range, I wouldn't look to eBay for this one.
Swing for the fences!

There is no substitute for NES Baseball Stars. One of the best games on any platform.

All-Star Baseball 2001 for N64 is one of my favorites - the highpoint of the series. Also, the first Ken Griffey Baseball on SNES was really good.

when you get the Gamecube DEFINATELY pick up Home Run King.
as for right now, the best games that look great and have substance are the RBI baseball series. my favorite is RBI '93 for Sega Genesis. but the ones for NES are pretty good too.

Super Baseball Simulator 1.000 for SNES, still the only Baseball game I'll ever need.

Super Bases Loaded. It ca be awkward at first, but just give it some practice. Right up there with Baseball Stars IMO. Also, check out the last High Heat, 2003 I think.

I'll second Drexel923's nomination of RBI Baseball. I was never really able to get into Baseball Stars that much. In fact, any Namco baseball game (from what I've played) is really good.

The only console baseball games I own are Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball and Super Baseball 2020, both for SNES. Both are pretty good in my book. Think of Super Baseball 2020 as an update of sorts to Basewars.

R.B.I. Baseball 3 - NES
Tecmo Super Baseball (granted once you get used to the controls it's very good!) - SNES
Triple Play XX - GEN
Frank Thomas Big Hurt Baseball (love the pitching engine! you can't change the direction of the pitch after it's selected, and you have to adjust your bullpen and even THEY have a meter for 'warming up'!~) - SNES/GEN/PSX

I second Baseball Stars. It's the true ancestor to today's baseball simulation games, not just arcade-style pick-n-play games. And actually, you can just pick-n-play if you prefer, but the most fun is to create your own team and give it attributes (with the cash you earn over wins, you can improve your players' skills). It was probably the first baseball game to offer league play instead of single games only. You can even fire your players if they underperform!

I also liked Tecmo SUper Baseball but I noticed once that, no matter how hard I tried, there was one guy on the team I played that could never get a hit. I don't know if it was a bug or that I sucked only when I had that character up at bat. Baseball Stars for the NES, the first Ken Griffey Jr. game for SNES and Super Baseball 2020 for the SNES are ones I also enjoyed. I also liked All-Star Baseball for the N64...'99 is the one I've usually played. I never liked Ken Griffey Jr.'s Winning Run on SNES, though, as I have never managed to play that game right...never got any hits, always gave them up in bunches.

On the original Playstation, I usually wound up playing Triple Play Baseball though a few of them were kind of buggy. My memory card would get corrupted or (my favorite) I'd bring in a pinch-hitter and he'd face the wrong way with his back to the plate! I also liked 3D Baseball...a little difficult to get hits sometimes (though not impossible) but I really liked the play-by-play of Van Earl Wright...he cracks me up. And, of course, there's always MLB and Curt Gowdy.
Of course, if you own a Saturn you must own a copy of World Series Baseball '98. It's the law.

That reminds me of when I played All-Star Baseball 2002 on the PS2 and (more than once) whenever the pitcher came up to bat, he would still be wearing his glove on his pitching hand! LOL

My favorite baseball games.
1. Little League Baseball (NES)- About as smooth control as you can get on a NES baseball game.
2. Bad News Baseball (NES)- Very wacky, Japanese Humor. Very good soundtrack if you can get past the underlying Tweet, Tweet, Tweet-tweet-tweet!
3. Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball- Great arcade-style action. One of the first games I can remember where you can pick actual stadiums to play in. Not where to go for an accurate simulation. One of the few games where fielding is much better than hitting.
My least favorite baseball games:
1. Major League Baseball (NES)- Not bad for an early effort, but the ability to control a pictch all the way to the catcher's mitt and the i n c r e d i b l y slow fielding don't do it for me.
2. Roger Clemens MVP Baseball (NES)- Feilding is shown from the fielder's perspective, as if you are looking at the plate. Interesting idea, but doesn't work for me.
3. Bases Loaded 3 (NES)- Maybe Ryne Sandberg had a few new ideas, because this game is an insult to the first (excellent) Bases Loaded games for the NES.
I never liked Baseball Stars, which may make all the above opinions invalid X_x

i've just gotta commend DigitalSpace and Rogmeister for bringing Ken Griffey Jr Baseball for snes to the table. by far my favorite baseball game of all time. easy to pick up and learn the intuitive controls, no MLB character names (except for griffey of course), but if you know anything about early to mid 90's baseball, you can usually determine which character is what actual player. and home run derby mode is icing on the cake.
pick it up. you won't be disappointed

Baseball Stars above all others.
I like Baseball Advance for the GBA as well. And if it has the name "World Series Baseball"and it is on Genesis or Saturn...good stuff...
Pete Rose Baseball on 2600 (I assume it's good opn 7800 as well) is a very nice game as well.

I'm a fan of digital baseball too! Here's a wide smattering:
2600
HomeRun - I don't know why, but I really enjoy this game.
NES
Baseball Stars 1 and 2 - as mentioned
Major League Baseball - Personally, this is one of my favorites. Very simplex, but hella fun.
Basewars - I'm surprised no one mentioned this. It's not realistic, but it's pretty damn fun.
SNES
Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball - It's all been said, and it's all true.
Saturn
World Series Baseball - The first one was the best in my opinion, but 2 and 98 were both all right. I really enjoyed these games and played through almost an entire season with them.
NeoGeo Pocket
Baseball Stars - Just like the NES version, only miniturized!
PSOne
MLB 2001 (and up) - These are all pretty good.

Even though we're not supposed to mention the current consoles (based on this thread starter's mention he doesn't have any of the 3), I'd like to mention that my favorite baseball game of the current crop is MVP Baseball. I've already played through 2 or 3 seasons and still can't stop... :D

I like the way the stadiums look, but yes, I strike out at like every at bat and give up many many runs. LOL

Backyard Baseball (PC): I'm sure I made a thread on this earlier this year, but I still love this game. It's for kids, which is quickly obvious with at the start, but it's still a nice fun game, that can be challenging.
The Microsoft Baseball series(PC): I remember playing this for hours until I got bored with it. But the newer versions allow midseason trades and rookie drafts, making it even more addictiing. The controls seem a little hard with just a keyboard, but a gamepad can obviously fix that.
R.B.I. '93(GEN): My first baseball game. I don't think i've EVER lost a game to the computer, even on the more difficult settings. It's pretty easy, especially when you can get about 50 homers in a row(!) if you position your self right. I remember next years game having pictures of most of the players. But, the only reason I like this game more is '94 had probably the HUGEST outfield i've ever played in, making inside the park homeruns with CECIL FIELDER possible.
Word Series Baseball (GEN): The original is fun in the fact that it can be a challenge, even when you have a great team playing(Indians, Expos, Mariners, Rangers). Also, it's the last known game(to me) that has Nolan Ryan on a non-legends team. The graphics are great for the time. It even does the stadiums to the tiniest detail (What the hell, the Ohio lottery symbol is in Municipal stadium!) The hitting and pitching are probably one of the greatest systems around.

I'm sure everyone will be expecting me to chime in with this one, but it's a LOT of fun with the right couple of players. My mother and I used to play marathon sessions of it, and it never got old!
