Well Monday I picked up a copy of Phantom Brave (which my god kicks ass in a quirky Rhapsody like way) and my mom whips out a copy of the guide from the book stand, plops it down on the counter and says: "Why don't you get this too?"

So I'm sitting in the car leafing through the book and it's just strikes me how massive this guide seems compared to other popular RPG guides. It also seems to be very well written and extremely informative. So I think I want to pick up the Disgaea guides as well (and probably Nocturne when I get the game). I'm not normally into strat guides but I feel I'd really like to support Doublejump. They seem to be a hell of a lot better then anything I've seen from Brady or Prima.

One question I wanted to ask though is how big is the Disgaea guide? The Phantom Brave one is about the same size as a dvd case but much thicker. I'm just curious because when I get the guide I'de like to stack them on the shelf next to their respective games.

I suck at video games so I will buy them for just about EVERYTHING (except sport games)...

While I've never held the guide in my hands, I think it's a regular sized guide.

You can download a free PDF of the guide from their site:

Yeah I did download it but without printing the guide out it's hard to tell how big it is on a moniter.

And erm... you stretched the screen with that link.

The Disgaea guide is no larger than any other normal sized strategy guide. In fact, my Final Fantasy X strategy guide is thicker.

I really like the Phantom Brave guide. What's best about it is you can put on your game/dvd rack right nect to the game. I hope we see more of these size strategy guides.

BTW, you can buy the Disagea guide on ebay directly from Double Jump. That's how i bought mine. Doesn't look like the y have any up right now. i got mine for $19.95.

I think you can buy it through amazon.com as well.

The Disgaea revised edition guide from Doublejump is the same as the Phantom Brave and Nocturne guides I believe.

The original Disgaea strategy guide is the same size as most other prima/brady/etc guides. And priced at 14.99 MSRP instead of DJ's normal 19.99.

Oooh... can anyone confrim this for sure?

Anyway yeah I do plan on ordering the guide straight from DJ's store. After checking their forums I see they're also giving away free copies on the Phantom Brave mini artbook with purchase upon request.

So weee!

Well, no one should really need a strategy guide. Just takes common sense and a little critical thinking to get you by. Unless you're playing a shadowgate game; God Damn that game was ridiculous. Only game i ever had to use a strategy guide for. Still didn't beat it because the guide was in a mag and stopped half way through the game. :(

Wasn't it you who had a artical printed in that guide? If so, Why did you wait so long to get it? Anyways, whats this mini artbook look like?

About the Disgaea guide: (first and second print)

it is of the normal size like a Bradygames guide, both ed.s have 96 pages. Well done, well written. The first edition has thinner paper, the paper quality of the second edition is thicker which makes it almost twice as thick as the first edition. The editors state that there were changes made in the second edition, but they were minor!! (can't confirm it since I gave my first ed. guide to a friend)

About the Phantom Brave guide:

I ordered it directly from DJ back then; the mini-art book is nothing to write home about. Very thin, 6 pages, couple of pics, smaller than the guide, that's all. Certainly not worth to get a second guide if you picked it already up in a store.

Daria, to clear it up: nope, the second edition is exactly the size of the first edition (normal guide size like Prima or Brady), just thicker with the same number of pages.

Sounds like what they did with the Morrowind Prophecy guide. The first edition is 'normal' size book. For the Game of the Year Edition, they made the book larger and more stuff on each page, so now it's less pages.

Yup it was me. And honestly? It was just a question I didn't think it was that big of a deal, not like I had an article published in it or something. Besides I'd already gotten the answer printed in the book from lendain.

Thanks for the information, but I should note I wasn't buying the Phantom Brave guide twice. I'm trying to get a copy when I order the Disgaea guide.

I don't really need a guide. But the Nippon Ichi strategy games are so complexed having one isn't going to hurt either. Plus I'm a fan of the games, and I like the featured artwork.

well im stupid and lazy when it comes to RPG's , i dont want to wander around for long periods of time trying to figure something out, so i use gamefaqs.com lol
but i hate RPG's anyway cuz im just not into long games, so i guess i try to get through them as fast as i can, but still 99% of the time i never beat them because i get totally tired of the lame story lines.

Maybe if you don't care about completion. If your like me and lots of other people, and are a completionist, you want to miss NOTHING. Lots of RPGs (and other types of games for that matter) have chests / secrets that you will NOT find, even if you use a Gamefaqs guide. I'm the type of person that will erase my RPG Save after I put 20 hours into it because they missed a chest with a herb in a dungeon (I've done this lots of times actually :embarrassed: ).

O.o

Okay for secrets and item locations I could use gamefags (although normally I just don't bother) but the Phantom Brave guide lists a lot of formula like stuff for fusions and shit like that. Stuff I don't expect to remember on my own and would be a pain to run to gamefaws every time I needed to look it up.
