Has anyone gotten this or played it? What do you think? I was thinking of getting this as I love the Contra franchise and Shattered Soliders was a very good (although VERY HARD) game. I'm surprised no one has mentioned it here yet.

I like it a lot. Well worth a purchase if you like solid action. It feels like the complementary overhead stages that should have been in Shattered Soldier. It is definitely a bit more fair in terms of challenge as well, being a bit more on the twitchy side, and that's a good thing. At first I was wishing for dual stick Smash TV controls, but after a few minutes, I actually enjoyed the similarity to Shattered Soldier's controls. The story sequences are a joke. They are a parody of Metal Gear Solid.

Now if they could put a toned down Shattered Soldier together with Neo Contra, we could have the best Contra since Contra III.

I've only played the demo that came with my Playstation Magazine and seemed like it would be alot of fun. I'll be picking this one up for sure when I get the chance.

I'll be keeping tabs on this thread to see what other people think as they get it.

Is the whole game like the demo? Meaning that the whole game is basically a Rail shooter type game?

No, there are many more run'n'gun sections than rail segments. Almost everyone I've heard from who played the demo said it sucked. It was part of level 2, apparently? That's probably the worst level.

The full game is decent, but far too easy. I'd suggest waiting for the first price drop, cuz most vets will cut through this like butter. Fun butter, but ...

What the hell is up with failing to produce Smash TV style controls? You'd think somebody would've figured it out by now x_x

Looks like I was wrong about Shattered Soldier having those controls as well, huh.

I guess it would have been cool to have a Robotron-like dual-stick option, but really, the game's control is fine. More than fine. Just move the "maintain your facing" button from L2 to R2. It's then much easier to hold for extended periods, at least for me.

All I know is that I found the graphics to be nice and clean and the action to be VERY fast. Too fast for me...lol

I got my hands on the game. I think it's a lot of fun. Granted I only played it for about an hour. I hear that it's easy to beat once you get into it and the replay value isnt all there - but I'm not at that point yet. I like the graphics and I really dig the new gameplay mechanics and camera angles, I think it's a lot of fun. It's Contra, but it's not contra. But they didnt mess with the play experience so much as to ruin the game, it's fun to play and that's what it's all about when you're popping Contra into any console.

Eh...feels like a improved sequel to Contra:Legacy of War to me.

My bro bought the game a couple days back, its fairly decent and it has one of the sweetest opening scenes Ive ever seen in a game. Its up to you if you want to buy, maybe rent it first cause it is very short.

If the game is that short. Then the game should've
been like $30 instead of $49. Why can't they just
make a longer Contra game with like 30 missions
and have a save feature so you play where you
left off. O_O I am sure it's a really fun game to
play. But we need longer gameplay to enjoy. 8-)

I wish that Konami would bring Contra III to the
Playstation 2 with 50 levels to blast more aliens,
more huge Bosses, Hella! weapons, Fighting on
top of a huge truck while shooting a aliens & robots. 8-)
Or on a huge train fighting whatever is in your way. 8-)
Why do they call it Contra III The Alien Wars.
Wouldn't it be a full scale invasion because a whole city
got destroyed by the Red Falcon's massive! Spaceship
O_O

Only three original Bosses like the long large head
like Aliens. The giant heart is back, then the boss
at the end of Super Contra but it moves now.
On the Nes game it had a face like of a human woman
though. I like the graphic's on Contra III on the Snes
a lot better than today, Who know what will happend. :-P

I'll maybe just rent is or buy Neo Contra for the PS2. 8-)
I wonder how long it took to make Neo Contra. :hmm:

I better go to sleep because i've been up all night and
didn't sleep yet. hehe O_O

Night, I mean morning. O_O -_-

I feel that it was a $40 well spent. Sure, you can blow through the game rather quickly, but can you SCORE an S rating on every level while doing so?

Shattered Soldier was a bit different in the fact that it whooped your ass AND demanded S rankings to unlock stuff--Neo Contra might be a bit easier in the overall challenge department, but getting those S ratings is still a bit on the difficult side. If you look at it, all of the Contra games are easy--with that one exception of course.

Fans of Contra should enjoy it, even though there isn't an ability to jump. It's still fast action, which is what fans of the series want. Plus, the story is mondo bizarro.

Sorry to revive such an old post, but...

I just picked up Neo Contra, now that it's only $20 and I have money again. I haven't played it yet, but I was wondering if anyone else had any more to say about it now that it's been out for almost a year.

I just picked the game up too from the Toys R US Buy 2 get one free sale. My son and I will be putting it through its paces sometime this week. I've heard it's a pretty easy game but we'll see! :)

Neo Contra is quite the bitching action title. I'm still more partial to Shattered Soldier, but NC is very deserving of the Contra name, despite the radical gameplay changes. Lemme just say this; Configuration D owns all. That Heaven's Light = GODLY. Instant vaporization for lock-on targets.

Wow this is an old topic.

Hard Corps is hideously underlooked.

Found me a copy for just under $9 at Target. While I partially agree that Neo is like an improved Legacy of War, I'd also have to say that it's a great run n gunner and an excellent installment in the Contra line. I love the evade and roll-away functions... absolutely needed for when your cornered by enemie fire. The action is fast... control is tight... awesome bosses. :eek 2: The first level boss still kinda freaks me out. You know, with the infant head and all. Best under $10 game I've picked up in a long time. :)
