Can anyone attend the NECG events? I'd like to go, but I would feel kind of wierd just showing up at someones house. How many people usually go to the NECG. Also it it a swap meet only type of thing? Because if I went I wouldn't really have anything to trade or sell.

Everybody does it - it's cool.

How many people usually go to the NECG.

20ish, on average.

Also it it a swap meet only type of thing?

Not only a swap meet, but also a gaming adventure - contests, stories, and other general gaming geekiness.

Because if I went I wouldn't really have anything to trade or sell.

That's ok - you wouldn't be the only one.

Don't be afraid. Join us. Joiiiiiiiin usssssss......

we just need to know what costume you'll be wearing :P

well the theme is fighting games, el capitan club ninja will be doing the selecting so it will be a gamers gourment of gore and grabholds...in other words it'll be a contest with some sorta prize, lots of button mashing, swearing and heated battles.

the usual trademeet boxes of joy will be on hand and beer will be available for those so desiring, all others may enjoy high sugar fake fruit juices. a classifieds email should be circulating soon for those of you who like to plan ahead.

Probably a stupid question, but is there more than one gaming system set up? I know this sounds whiny, but I'm not really a fighting game fan, and can picture there being only one gaming spot, and having it run nothing but fighting games for the duration of the meet. I assume I'm wrong, but want to verify before making the trek out there.

As for my realisitic chances of going - I'm not sure. I'm going to try, but don't know for sure yet.

But I'd like to head on up, and my wife loves the idea of visitng Boston, so it could happen.

that shouldnt prove to be an issue, while the main screen in gameroom will be tourney central there will be many other gaming options (main screen hosts everything SNES and forward). another TV in traderoom (aka my cramped living room) is usally set up to showcase a 7800 or other classic favorite. a commie monitor in the gameroom will also be set up for testing consoles and goofing around with more obscure stuff.

in addition to that i like to set up another monitor around the kitchen to show off something silly the SFC or CDi. then you have my playchoice 10 countertop which often sees a lot of dr.mario action. during lulls in the tourney you can catch a little vas action on the arkanoid 2 cocktail or try a turn on the vectrex minicade console. theres also my dodgy MAME cab, but the less said about that beast the better.

still not enough? you can always get anti-social and bury your face in the virtual boy or challenge keir to a round of vectrex berzerk. toddst will be on hand, no doubt looking for another DS owner to take on. lastly there should be another honking big monitor running some DC VGA action. all that aside our trademeets are very much about trading and being social so you wont lack for things to do.

I'll be gobbling up Neo Geo MVS games as usual, and I know you'll all be bringing loads of them... right? Is there anybody out there? I need Ultra Tank and Boot Hill cabinets, too! LOL

For stuff that people will actually have, I'm still all over Sega stuff. I need a handful of SMS games, lots of Genesis, and assorted Saturn and Dreamcast. I could actually use some DS games too - most specifically a Zoo Keeper (and the lady wants the Urbz). If anyone's interested in PC Engine games, then I'll be bringing a small, minty stack. And other stuff. Weeee!

CasualCoreGamer

I'm gonna commit to going, and I'll bring a couple of sixes of local, tasty brew (I'll only have a few, since I have to drive back to the other side of the state afterward, and "donate" the rest to the lord(s) of the manor), but I don't have much for tradebait (5 complete Intellivision commons, 2 complete PS2 games, boxed U-Force controller, boxed Saturn Virtua Stick, a gold N64 TRU controller & a GBA w/accessories). Should I bring it, or just leave it at home? I only ask because it's my first "meet" and I don't want to pull any newb blunders. Of course, I'm planning on buying as well, so if my meager bait stack doesn't cut it, I'll still hopefully walk away with some swell swag. Anyway, looking forward to meeting all y'all.

ClubNinja
02-05-2005, 09:55 AM

@Chad, RE:PCE games - Nice. Bring the Virtua Fighter cab, and we'll call it a deal!

CasualCoreGamer
02-05-2005, 11:24 AM
Thanks, that puts me more at ease. Hopefully, there will be a PCE game or 2 left after ClubNinja's stack gets ravaged :-P . Just for one day, not dealing with online purchasing or trudging through the wild is precious enough to me. Getting thirsty just thinking about it.

Yes please! I’ll see what I can bring along for Sega stuff. Need any GBA Mega Man games? I think I have a couple that I’m not interested in.

Then again, maybe I don’t want them if they’ve got Chad all over them. Nothing ruins a perfectly good game like a bunch of Chad.

Toby, I'd be interested in acquiring a bunch of Genesis sports games for cheap too.

In fact....if someone can bring Atari 2600 Commons (Loose or no)...I'd like it..I'd like to grab some more. :-).

and a big 10-4 on the Drinks. Anything expcet outta season brews and what not. I'll also try to bring some snacks. No verification on the tasty yummies though. Beer may cost me enough as it is.

Hope to see everyone there. :-).

I wouldn't have a problem at all about donating the Virtua Stick as a fighting games prize, if everyone's cool with it.

christianscott27
02-07-2005, 07:56 PM
heres what i was thinking, that virtua fighter stick has a guide value of $10 but since its boxed i'd say $20 is about right. if you feel higher i'd go with that too, its around that. so then everybody who wants to play in the tourney ponies up a couple of bucks, $20 divided by the number of players.

the winner of the fighting games contest gets the stick and you get the cash, which is just as good (or sometimes better) than trade at our swaps.

if that sounds fair let me know, if not thats cool too. i just noticed a couple of people wanted it so it seemed like a neat way to kill two birds with one stone. for what its worth i also suck at fighting games :)

CasualCoreGamer
02-07-2005, 08:27 PM
Your estimate on the stick is pretty generous, actually, so no problem here. I just wanted to clarify that I wanted to donate the stick as say, a newb peace offering to NECG, so I'm not expecting any casheesh for it.

Hey everyone, how's it going? I am hoping to attend on the 27th (my first one).. I have a few items to trade, not much though. I thought I would give a brief list to see if anyone was interested in any of it..

Gameboy Color & A few games, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Camera, 6 or so Genesis Games, Some NES games (commons and some R5+), Nes Controllers - Rf Adapter - AC Adapter (I think I saw a post saying someone was interested in some of the NES hardware), FF7 PC Game (in FF7 Slip Case), A few Saturn Games (commons), Sewer Shark - Sega CD, and some other stuff.

Mostly interested in SNES games & arcade stuff (CPS2 Games, microswitches, buttons, etc).

Let me know! :)

thanks,

chris

You won't find much arcade stuff on the block there, but you could easily find trade partners for most of what you've listed.

EDIT:

Given that I've volunteered to help with the new DP Technical Knowledge Base, I would love any nonworking consoles. Orphaned power supplies and controllers would be great too, since most of the time when I do acquire dead consoles they come bare and it's hard to pass on a repaired console without at least the power supply. Keir has already (retroactively) donated a large number of nonworking consoles to me for this project, though I am definitely missing some power supplies for things like a model 2 sega CD.

I can't wait for this next trademeet. I unfortunately have not been able to attend the past 2 meets due to hockeys games/family obligations. I will bring my usual box of 2600 commons, however I have tons of other goodies to go around.
I also want to admit that I absolutely suck at fighter games, therefore I might not participate in the contest. It will have to be a gametime decision depending on the games we are playing.
Also, the 27th is my 30th birthday, therefore gifts are more then welcome- HINT, HINT, HINT. :D

I see them on electricquarter.com. Are you coming, Sylentwulf? If you are, bring a few of them, I want three and possibly four. I also need 3 of the Multisystem AC adapters and an optical audio cable.

EDIT:

Whoa, didn't notice until now the GC has a digital out. What cable is necessary for that? I need one of those too.

Keir, I have a bunch of Complete C64 games I picked up but haven't tested. Interested? You can pretty much have them if you want, I need the shelf space back but don't want to bring them if you have no need of them. I don't know the titles offhand but I know at least a couple are RPGs.

I also have a couple items I'd like to be rid of and would trade cheaply but don't want to lug if no one wants them. I have one of those rectangular system holder things for SNES (I believe), one of those for the 2600 but labeled TeleGames, a 10 or so 2600 card holder with the M Network logo on it, another 2600 system holder without a brand on it. LMK if there's any interest.

Another thing: Any interest in modded consoles for tradebait? I have a lot of extra consoles that generally aren't tradeable (n64, etc). It won't happen for this meet, but I could start bringing a couple modded consoles to each meet (RGB, region, etc) if people would have interest in them.

Requests to bring....::

Hey guys... Just a little request .. that if you guys have the following and willing to sell it at the meet.. please bring it!

::

Odyessy2 Controllers..... that work. I don't need the wires.... just the controllers.. so they can come off a broken Hard wired version, too. The current two I have suck...and I'd rather not maul my ody2 to mod it to work with Genesis or Atari controllers.

Atari 2600 Commons - Seriously. Bring a small tub of them if ya got em, I'll most certainly buy a few off you.

Tiger Game.Com games / accessories - I'll be getting one in the mail shortly...so any game.com games.. EXPCIALLY Duke Nukem 3D for the game.com...

Any spare, working Systems I don't have (ANY, not just those on my (WANT list) at http://cooncaderomp.cjb.net ..... while I can't promise I'll buy them, pending how much you want for them, I can promise I'll take it into deep consideration.

- Imports (Fami(## in one carts are fine), Super Fami, PC Engine, Mega Drive, GameGear, Saturn, N64, Dreamcast)
- Domestics (Saturn & Turbo 16 preferably, but I'm easy to please with other platforms)
- Sega PowerBase converter

...I could go on, but those are my primaries. If anyone has interest in anime artbooks (Roman Albums), I'd have a couple to bring. I'm so stoked for Sunday!
