Finally arrived yesterday after waiting over month from dodgy ebayer..
Ok I turn it on and hear the thing buzzing away, but the game doesn't load. If I blow on the cart slot it will sometimes load. But usually the graphics in the game and messed up and will eventually crash.
The batteries are new. I only have one game to try unfortunately. Is this a known problem? Could it be the cart? Or worst off the VB unit? Any tips on cleaning the cart slot? Its quite hard to get to..

Sorry to tell you this, but it more than likely is a defective unit. Unlike the NES, blowing on the cart is not gonna "fix" the problem. I think you're screwed. Try to get your money back.

Sounds like your VB might be out of alignment. A pretty common problems with VB's when they aren't handled carefully. Here's a link with instructions how to check it. If it is out of alignment, there is really nothing you can do to fix it though:

After Q-tipping the cart slot with alcohol I got tennis to load and actually have few games (quite cool!), eventually the graphics get scrambled and game will crash though.
Better than nothing spose, I'll put up for now guess..

Oh and the alignment test seems perfect.
