After reading a similar thread on the SNES, I wanted to ask if anyone had a personal favorite game on the N64 that was overlooked. I am starting to get into that system, and I am looking for suggestions for new games.

Superman 64, haha j/k.

I believe "Jet Force Gemini" would apply here.

Gauntlet Legends

How about Body Harvest? I haven't played the game extensively, but it looks like a fun, free-roaming 3D title. There are mission objectives and you can take almost any vehicle you see, just like the GTA games.

I also like Destruction Derby 64 a lot. Both the single and multiplayer modes are great fun.

Beetle Adventure Racing I ve never heard anyone talk of it.

I'll second Beetle Adventure Racing. It was an excellent mix of driving and exploration, with a great battle mode to boot. I don't know if it was successful at retail, but it was among the best N64 games, and it's one I recommend.

There are a lot of really good multiplayer games on this console, actually. I remember the two Snowboard Kids games as well; I can't remember which one was better, but they had some real fun for four players.

Castlevania 64/LoI
Mischief Makers
Xtreme G 2

I'll second Blast Corps; wish I kept that game :/

Never heard of this Bettle Adventure Racing game lol

Mischief Makers: agreed
Beetle Adventure Racing: agreed

First mention: I can't believe no one else has mentioned Snowboard Kids. What an excellent racer.

That game's great if you turn on big head and the cheat to make fights break out more often.

Wow, nobody's mentioned Paper Mario yet. Not so much a sleeper now that the sequel is out, but the original is fantastic.

Beetle Adventure Racing is a really good game, but I wish the music wasn't so abysmal.

I'd say both Goemon games are underrated, especially Goemon's Great Adventure. I've played a ton of N64 games, and I still think it's the best one I've played.

How abaout Space Station Silicon Valley? I picked it up when it was heavily discounted a few months after release. I do know the "Next Generation" magazine gave it a great review, but I guess it was not marketed all that well. One of my favorite N64 games even though it does not work with the expansion pack plugged in.

N64 has some awesome little lost gems:

Glover- everyone seems to hate this game, but I really like it. It's a unique platformer where you control a disembodied hand and a beach ball. Great puzzles, and very hard.

Goemon's great adventure- Sequel to Mystical Ninja 64, It has 3D graphics but plays like a 2D platformer. Simply awesome, with lots of personality and great music. Plus, the main villain is a morbidly obese undead evil nun. How awesome is that?!

Mischeif Makers- amazing 2D platformer made by treasure. This game alone justifies owning an N64.

Mystical Ninja 64- plays sort of like a cross between mario & zelda, but surpasses them both, in my opinion. It's also really funny, and it has several fully vocalized japanese songs, and a freakin' laugh track that pops in at odd moments.

Rocket: Robot on wheels- excellent platformer from the creators of sly cooper, this game has one of the best physics systems i've even seen in a game.

Space Station Silicon Valley is great (I also picked it up after reading the 5-star review in NextGen). SSSV was made by the guys behind Lemmings and Uniracers, so not a bad heritage. Blast Corps, as others have mentioned, is one of the great early games on the 64.

My fave game for the 64 is Ogre Battle. It's a fine game but not as good as the Super NES version.

Yeah, you can take over dozens of vehicles and go into houses and stuff. It was created by the GTA team I believe (right? maybe.) so there's a lot of similarities between the two games. It's a bit frusterating to play at first but it's good fun, reccomended.

some other ones:

Snowboard Kids 1 and 2 - overly cutesy beyond belief but a lot of fun to play. I like the second one even better than the first, although the reviews for the second were minimal. Can't wait for the DS game (if it ever gets released in the US)
Aerogauge - It's short and easy but a good game to take your mind off into. I personally like it a lot better than F-Zero X too.
Iggy's Wreckin' Balls - Reeeaaally odd game where you race with bouncing balls. It's...just weird, really, go find this game.

Robotron 64 - I was a fan of the original, and this game was an update that kept me playing much like Tempest 2000. It wasn't as good (or as long) as that gem, but it is way better than people give it credit for.

And I'll second the Snowboard Kids games. They are both what I think Mario Kart 64 should have been like - large courses, balanced power ups / attacks, very strategic.

Yeah, I'm thinking anything by Nintendo would never qualify as a sleeper, and rarely underrated.

I'll put another vote in for Beetle Adventure Racing. It's my favorite racing game on the N64 and one that isn't plagued by the FOG that's seen too often in its racing titles.

I'd recommend Roadsters as my favourite racing game on the N64. It plays smoothly and is gorgeous to look at.

Nobody seems to talk about this game and none of my friends had even heard of it when I got it. It was released on the DC as well (and probably the PS!).

And Lode Runner is pretty cool as well. It looks basic but has pretty crafty puzzley levels and gets pretty mean!

I agree with WipeOut 64. It's the best racer on the N64 (next to F-Zero X), the control is great, the gameplay is smooth, and the music is pretty good.

Castlevania: LOI. This is a great game. It's an awesome action game that people hated because it carried the Castlevania name. Regardless, the game plays great and it tons of fun.

i would say definitely snowboard kids, bust a move 99, beetle racing, and goemons great adventure.
one that no one has mentioned, but i enjoyed (may be the only person too) was chameleon twist, it was a good platformer, and the different abilities of the chameleon was neat, and when you beat it, you can unlock a part of a level where you play pool on a table with the balls being as big as you are!

So many underrated games, mainly due to the fact that most adults viewed it as a "kiddie system".

Here's a few:

World Driver Championship......hardcore sim racer, looks better than Gran Turismo 1 and 2.

Shadowman....dark, creepy game about voodoo and the Deadside...."kiddie system"? WHAT "kiddie system"? This version looks fantastic because of the N64's unique texturing feature....and unlike the Playstation version, has no bugs.

Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage......an absolutely MASSIVE RPG. It starts out painfully slow.....but IF you can stick with it, it builds up speed nicely. One of my all time favorite N64 games...I'm SO glad that I persisted and completed it.

Fighter's Destiny.....gorgeous looking fighter with tons of game modes. Had a unique way of scoring a fight. My absolute favorite fighter on any system to date.

I agree, I want to get a copy of CastleVania LoD, I keep borrowing it from my friend :embarrassed:

I like exploring the new areas after playing the original game many times, but Henry's game is my favorite, since it feels more like a race...7 days flat to save those friggin kids

LoI = PlayStation 2, Igarashi (the anti-KCEK)
LoD = N64, KCEK team

LoI is Lament of Innocence.
LoD is Legacy of Darkness.

mystical ninja is a great zelda style game. Goemon 's great adventure is just like the older games of the series which means automatic awesomeness. It might seem odd when i say this, but chameleon twist was fun. it's very easy but still enjoyable

hmm...

command and conquer. it was a pretty cool game, and supported 3d graphics.

starcraft 64. if it had only come out much sooner.

twisted edge. in the mist of 1080, many people ignored this very fun game

conker's bad fur day. another game that came out just a little too late.

battle tanx. highly underrated, but insanely fun.

Yea, Battle tanks was good.
Extreme G 2 was pretty fun also.
I had a lot of fun with the bomberman multiplayers, and the singler player puzzles weren't bad.

Also, maybe someone can help me, there was the FPS that I can not remember the name. It was the first one I ever played where you could "latch onto" a wall and bend around a corner to shoot. It was one of the earlier games on the N64 I think. Its been killing me to remember the name. It was kinda like a 3rd person Goldeneye. I have a hard time remembering it, but I think it was pretty cool cause of being the first game I played like that.

Beetle Adventure Racing

BAR is one of my fav. N64 games. I would have never even given this game a chance until one of my friends rented it one day, about 5 or so years ago. I love the amount of racing and exploration in it, as well as the music. Also love the battle mode!

Yeah, it was pretty good (except for the lack of mid level saves). I still have no idea why it was released on the PS2.

You're right. I meant to say LOD for the N64 in my post. It's really my favorite N64 game next to F-Zero X.

The level design was great, the bosses were huge, and the game had lots of replay value since different characters had different levels.
