I have been toying with the idea of trying to pick up one of these and just wondered if anyone had an opinion on it - are the games tape or cartridge any good.
I'm pretty much in the dark with this one so any advice is greatly appreciated! :-D

If you like the best 8-bit gaming has to offer, you'll like the XEGS. It plays all of the Atari cartridges for its various 8-bit computer models. The games themselves are roughly equal to the C-64 line, though both systems have their own merits and personalities.
I'd highly recommend it.

Most of the games that I've played on mine a pretty good...except Centipede, which seems quite a bit more choppy than I remembered it.

Does that mean it will play 2600 and 7800 carts and if it is a UK sourced model will it play 5200?

Ah. I think the differences in the language seperate us. :-D
The XEGS will play carts from the 400, 800, 1200, 600, 65, and 130 computers.
Over here we call the 2600, 5200, and 7800 consoles. (I hope I spelled that right.)

Do you know which carts are good/rare etc as there is a UK supplier selling off old dealed stock - think at the moment he has Pacman, Platter Mania, Monster Maze, Kaboom and Moon Patrol - any of these good?

I don't believe that for a moment, A.S..
After dealing with students that I went to school with (i.e.: exchange students) from other counties that spoke "English", I'd have to say that it's more about the language that causes the confusion. Many of the same words are used, but the meaning isn't nesecerrily the same.
In short, there was no intent to make you feel dumb. I appologise if it seemed so.

Not at all - no offence taken :D
I spotted the list in the DP archives but have no idea what games are good or worth getting for this system so hence my last post asking about rarities etc
Someone is going to tell me I should buy the guide!

That's true about the Windows-type OS for the Atari 8 bits, its called ATOS and the homepage is at: http://cth.dtdns.net/atos/
seems like it's currently down maybe you can search for more information elsewhere or you can just download the package and try it out at:
