It serves those companies right. Those things are junky to start, and just hurt Nintendo's profits. It's nice to see them get wacked for a change.

I have a sealed one. Its basically an NES. I never bothered with it, I think it has another controller and a gun in the box.

I bought one about a year ago ... it literally blew up in my hands within the first 3 minutes of use. I got it on ebay and returned it to the seller who sent me a replacement. I've had no problems with it ever since ... of course I haven't used it forever either. It's nice to take on vacation or hotel stays because of its size but I would never consider it a replacement for the real thing.

I wonder if their sales records will convince Nintendo that there's a really big market here for all 900+ NES games in a single controller for only $19.99? LOL

There is a market for all those games in one controller for 19.99$ - but there is more money to be had selling *one* game for 19.99 in the NES greatest hits series....

In actuality, the Power Player does not contain all 900 or so games. Instead it has about 60 NES games and about 40 other older games. Then, the Power Player starts at different difficulty levels or stages and counts those variations as different games.

I'd like to see a source, "a judge in Seattle" isn't cutting it. Gamecube Europe thrives on making shit up on slow news days.

For those of you who may want these for historical value they have been pulled off ebay, but there are still some on yahoo. Like I've said, I would never consider these as a replacement to an actual system and games, but they are interesting.

I almost bought one of those thigs in a mall near here. That is until the guy told me they were $70. He tried to explain what a great deal it was.
Whatever.

good point. What are the numbers for the GBA NES series anyway?

Currently the damages being sued for are unspecified, but with defamation, degradation of consumer/manufacturer relations and lost revenue, the early estimates are in the millions.
WTF? I'm totally for Nintendo going after these guys, but what fucking loss of revenue could they possibly have suffered? It's not 1990 any more...

The sales volume must be pretty good, since they continue to release more titles. Anyhow, I just saw the second installment in stores this weekend (Metroid, Castlevania, Dr. Mario, and ??). A quick, and by quick I mean lazy, search on the Internet did not reveal any sales volume stats. Those new titles wouldn't be too bad for $20, but come on, Donkey Kong, Ice Climber, or Excitebike for $20 each. I like them, but I can't fathom paying that much for a nostalgic game that is merely a loop of three different stages like Donkey Kong

The potential loss of revenue is in the ability for Nintendo to manufacturer and release their own made for TV controller similar to those popular ones made by Activision.

Completely wrong; as I've said before, Nintendo will not and CANNOT release such a system as most of the games in question are not owned by Nintendo.
My other point, which I'm going to dredge back up along with the rest of this half month-old madness, is that Nintendo makes more money reselling individual game carts at $20 a pop anyways.
As the article says, this is about keeping the Nintendo name looking good and keeping quality associated with the brand.

this small distribution network of malls and kiosks in the Seattle area is suspected to be only a small part of a much larger operation.
Seattle? They're all over the country.

All I'm saying is that Nintendo could release a similar peripheral with their own games such as DK, Mario, Super Mario, Tetris, and others that they originally owned. The fact that it does not make sense for them to do it today with the "classic series" thriving does not mean that they wouldn't want to keep the option and the hungry market for such a peripheral open to do so a few years down the road such as after the GBA has consumed all the immediate appetite for such releases.

That's a good point, but still - such an idea will NEVER EVER fit into the Nintendo Framework of Success-Making:
1.) Nintendo will always be able to re-release individual games for more.
2.) Nintendo's reputation is built on quality, not quantity. Quality means building a platform, what's more, an experience - not throwing a bunch of cheapo plastic handhelds on the market (with the removal of component video from the backs of GameCubes, one can always argue about this, but the point still sticks)
3.) Handhelds, and the requisite bottom-of-the-barrel price point and low production cost, will hold Nintendo back from being at all innovative.
4.) Handhelds do not extend other Nintendo platforms with more content, as by their very nature handhelds do not require hardware to play on.

$70?! they had STACKS of these at the flea market for $25 last weekend. i always thought they were at least $50, and never bothered to lok at one, but for $25, it'd be an interesting curiosity...
also, these things have absolutely killed the market for used NES carts at the local flea market - places just carry these things instead...

There's a booth in my mall selling these. Super Mario Bros is usually always on it, or the guy there's playing Tetris or Super C.
