Hi just looking for an answer. We all know the PSX has sold 100 million consoles now and that the NES sold about 62 million but Im sure that figure doesnt include the Famicoms sales which I think is fair to include.

So my question is how many Famicoms were sold and do you think its fair to add it to the NES's sales as the PSX's 100 million figure also includes Japans sales.

For adding sales...question should be do you want to include Japanese figures with the PSX data?

I'm not quite sure where we're going with all this, but it sounds fun :)

I thought the 100 million PSX figure does include Japan sales, but maybe im wrong :embarrassed:

No need to be embarassed - I'm as bad on the facts here as you think you are - 'cuz I'm just asking if you wanted to include the figures for Japan.

In any case, I think what it comes down to is that the NES kicked off gaming in Japan in a big way, and got it started back up here in the states. Everything else has been building on that success, so I'm not surprised we've got much more PlayStations floating around than NES/FC units.

Actually, I'd love to know the answer to this too. Don't forget, the Famicom was produced for 20 years in Japan- that's certainly got to count for something. In addition to the point made above, the games market just wasn't the same size as it is now, so if you're comparing directly that needs to be taken into effect.

Alot of collectors don't count famicom, why i dunno, i find it very interesting,if it can be played on the nes i count it, just the same as pirate carts, i got some boxed/complete (most don't come with manuals) pirates and wouldn't mind to add some complete famicoms to my nes collection.
There are a shitload japan releases only, would want those all too, rpg's are a bit demotivating with all those signs, but there are enough games were you don't need to understand all what's mentioned.
