I am engaged to a wonderful woman that lives in the Ukraine and I was thinking that after she gets here I won't be playing games as much. Turns out I might be wrong. We were talking today and it turns out she enjoys gaming. She wants me to pick up Doom3 before she gets here and she is going to bring Serious Sam and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl with her. Oh happy day.

I think the term "Mail Order Bride" for us is a little insulting. I met her through a dating site and we talked for over a year, first just email then by phone and email. I went to see her in May and we had a great time and I asked her to marry me and she accepted. The traditional mail order bride isn't possible anymore because in order to get a fiance visa you have to have met in person within two years of filing the paperwork.

My wife participated in a Russian foreign exchange program when we were in college. The following summer, several of the Russians came over here and stayed the summer. All I have to say is, yowza! She is moving to Florida after her visa is approved. I know many people that think she is just looking for citizenship or is after money but I don't believe this is true. She has often told me that she would prefer it if I moved there. If it weren't for the language barrier I would actually consider moving to Kiev to be with her. I do speak a little Russian but nowhere near enough to get by. I know that the stereotypical man who finds an eastern European wife is twenty years older, makes a good amount of money, wants her for window dressing, and will treat her like dirt. I definately don't fit that desription. I am 26 and she is 30 and I work in a grocery store. We talk about everything but for some reason gaming didn't really come up till recently. Also many believe that eastern European women that come to the U.S. just want to be a housewife and go shopping. My fiance wants to work and we argue sometimes just like any other couple. I actually dated a Russian girl a few years ago that was married to a man 20 years older and he smacked her around and was very controlling. Before I met my fiance I met a couple other women through the same site and they were local and definately not for me. The first one was taking a crap when I talked to her on the phone. I would have never met her in person except when she called me the second time I was drunk. The other one was a single mother. That didn't bother me but the fact that she did a lot of drugs did bother me. It just worked out where the best one for me lives in Ukraine.

No it's not. In developing countries (and especially places like India) you tend to have far fewer girls than men. Now yeah, when the population has a chance to expand more or less without social inhibitions, that's the ratio you should get. But in this world, it doesn't reach that very often.
