Hi,
after having much debate on the subject i would like to ask people here which would they prefer.
scenario...
You walk into a room and find a PS2 set up with Street Fighter 3 ready to play. On the other side of the room you can see an arcade cab set up with a CPS3 board and Street Fighter 3 also. Both machines are free to play and set up on identical size screens/stereo. Which would you play?
Feel free to post your reasoning.

In that scenario, I'd play the arcade game. Any game that's available on both platforms, I'd pick the arcade game.
If you left me alone in the room over a weekend, you'd come back to a MAME'ed cabinet and a modded PS2.
Note: In your scenario, I don't see the PS2 as being more convenient, as they're both in the same room. If the PS2 were in my living room and the arcade game were down at 7-11, I might answer differently.
Nah I wouldn't; I'd just buy the cabinet. ;)

id rather just use the arcade cabinet...or buy a cabinet..
being a home arcade cabinet owner, i prefer playing on the cab just for the unique aspect of it

i'm assuming you had a 'debate' with a friend, in which case, one side choose the ps2 because of the controller. i find joysticks more 'fun', but when i really want to whip some ass, the psx controllers work much better for me. (although i suck at sf3, no matter what)...
in reality, i'd probably head for the cab at first, then if we really wanted to play some more, head to the couch with the ps2 setup for some beers and smokes.

Arcade of course. But for those generic JAMMA-ish games, the lines can be crossed somewhat.
However, for classic arcade games.. it's arcade all the way ;)

arcade will always be king, its so much more fun when you are playing fighting games on the actual machine, i dont know why , i just think it brings alot more excitement to the game.

I suck at fighting games so basicly the only difference is that I can sit down for the PS2 where I'm stuck standing for the arcade. If I'm going to get my rear handed to me, it may as well be in a comfertable seat.

Arcade always. See, there's more in the arcades besides fighters :)

No it was actually a debate over games being arcade perfect or better on the PS2. I would rather play the original arcade version personally. I am still having this arguement over at segaxtreme forums and wanted to present it here in a more evenly distributed gaming community.
I'd take the PS2...no question about it.
Why? Simple. I never COULD play a game in an arcade. I felt pressured to do well with people watching. My co-ordination went out the window. The PS2 controller is more familiar to me....and in a fighting game familiararity with the controls is everything.

Arcade here as well. Arcade games (especially with fighting games) are virtually identical to the consoles these days, but there's something about playing it on an arcade machine that makes things a LOT more fun!

The arcade Machine with a little arcade ambience on the stereo in the background. And no free play. I need quarters to pump in lined up across the marquee. There's something to be said about tradition.
Oh, I'll need the key to get my money back :)
