Was reading IGN's review for KillZone and I must admit, I was pretty shocked to hear what was said, since it was supposed to be PS2's "Halo Killer".
Review,

Well the article was trashed and the reviewer recieved many death threats from readers.
Here is the comments to the hate mail he received,

I will still play it and see for myself, but I thought I would share this story.

I read another review just a few hours ago, and while they seemed to be a bit more forgiving, they also mentioned seeing a texture change multiple times over, or running right into a wall that hadn't been there a minute before. So Killzone definitely has some problems.
I'm actually pretty interested in this game...might get a PS2 eventually for it. Still, it needs a bugfix...make that an overhaul. Badly.

Wow, thats a lot of angry letters for a 7.5. Heck after reading the letters i was expecting the score to be around 5-6.
It does look purdy though, and i doubt the bugs will put me off at least renting it (i finished firewarrior after all).
I've played the demo.....excellent game. I'm not an FPS kind of gamer either.
However.....the bugs. I wanted to buy this game ever since I'd first heard about it, but sadly I won't be wasting my money on it. Apparently the problem is that the hardware cannot do what the software is requiring of it. The game is FAR too lofty for the PS2 to handle. As the levels get bigger, the PS2 falters badly.
Shame.

I like the mail he received from the killzone fans that are mad that he compared it to Halo. Wasn't the tag line "Halo Killer"?
I played the demo and it was garbage. I thought since it was a demo they still had some stuff to iron out. Looks like I was wrong. It is too bad because I was semi hyped about this game.

If you were meaning that towards me,
I never said I was shocked that the fans had made threats, but I was shocked to hear that the game received a mediocre review, since it was called the "Halo Killer"...

people are stupid. getting all upset because the review showed the game didn't live up to their expectations. like it's IGNs fault the game sucks.
I understand how upset the fans are that they were waiting for this game and were told it would be great only to have it be crap, but now they go and say "NO ITS NOT CRAP YOU'RE A FANBOY IT'S AT LEAST A 11/10 though i haven't played it"

In the letters the actual score is mentioned a good number of times. Oh well. At least I have the comfort of knowing the anger was misdirected through ignorance...right? :p
Well, instead of picking at good Forum members, I'll just throw in my two cents.
Now that I've read all the letters and two reviews, I must say that the Official PlayStation Magazine coverage appears sickeningly biased. Sure, we're hearing that the demo was very good - I'll consider that. But when you've got the words "In a perfect world, ALL GAMES WOULD BE DEVELOPED BY (forget the studio name)" across a whole page, I can point the finger at OPM (in this case, the Australian "outfit") at not even trying to constrain their enthusiasm.
Piss poor preview on their part...but it's not like they have to actually answer for the mess they've caused, right?
If anything, people should really be angry at the studio, and Sony, for that matter. Yet I guess this is just like a high-profile Blowout...at this point they figure there's nothing more to gain from polishing the game, and Sony decided that they really don't need a killer app that badly...so cut the baby loose.
What's hillarious is the thought that right now there must be an improved version of the game at the company's offices. Heh.

Even their readers rated it a 7.5 .

I once wrote a movie review on my site that has consistently gotten me hate mail from that movie's fans for five years now.
So I'm not terribly surprised by this. I've learned to look forward to it when it happens. LOL

Okay, you got me.. I didnt read all the letters, i just skimmed the page for the short ones with lots of caps and exclamation marks because they promise the most violence :-P
Im gonna have to go out and buy a copy of the Australian OPSM just to see how bad it really is. @_@

I was doing a bunch of freelance writing reviewing concerts and CDs over the summer. Like clockwork, I knew when an article had printed or gone live because the hate mail started pouring in. Even for positive reviews, there was always that one guy who had to correct me on that one little point that only a die hard fan would know.
Goes with the territory.

Wow. That was hilarious, yet sad at the same time. I can't beleive so many people make such a big deal over some review. If you think the game is good, buy it. Crap, If I went and wrote a death threat for every bad review I've seen of a game I love, I'd be in jail seven times over now. :/

Totally get a PS2. A lot of neato games fur shore.

Yeah, I read those the other day and found them quite funny.
And while I have never played the game, it does look beautiful. But that's the thing, who knows how it plays, it might just look good.
I know it was suppossed to get better reviews, but I still think a 7.5 is good.

yet another reason for the internet to die in a fire. enabling masses of 12 year olds to think they can threaten people, or that they have a "voice"... LOL
