Tell us what Genesis sports titles you own. Also, feel free to explain why you own them if you'd like. Going for/have a complete Genny collection? Enjoy certain games? Pick some up in an ebay lot/at a garage sale with some more desirable Genny stuff? Want to get rid of them but can't? LOL

My Genny sports collection consists of one lone game - Jordan Vs. Bird. I had a lot of fun with it back in the heyday of the Genny. Even though at 50 cents for a loose cart, I probably overpaid. LOL

The closest after that would be Virtua Racing since it has the Sega Sports logo on the box, but I don't really consider racing games as sports games.

Greatest heavy weights boxing - best boxing game next to punchout

...psst I need a manual and box for that if anyone has one pm me. 8-)

I actually own alot of sports games for my Genesis, for somebody who isn't really into sports games at all. My reason for it is for the sake of completion. I just didn't want anybody to say that I didn't have a well-rounded collection because I didn't have any sports titles that weren't racing games. And I also figured that someday I just might have a friend who wanted to play a sports game, so I thought that I should have something there for them to choose. I'm still working on it too, so I'll probably be adding more titles in the future.

The best sports game for genesis is NBA JAM, specially because its a great conversion and its way better than ther SNES version.

I also bought Madden 93 Champhionship Edition, but that was only for collecting purpose

NHL 98 (last NHL game)
NHL 95 (worst one of the 16-bit days IMO but it is based upon stats of the Rangers/Canucks SCF Season..... Canucks are my fav team)
Tecmo Super Bowl (gotta have it!)
RBI Baseball 3
Tecmo Super Hockey (not very good, but I own all the other "Tecmo Super ___" games for SNES but this one was only released for Genesis)

I used to own RBI Baseball '93 but didn't like it. There's still more I want, obviously, but I'm not in a hurry to pick them up.

Still not sure whether I want to buy all these games w/ box or cart only.... Boxes take up so much space, but in a way they are like PS2/GC/XBOX cases but only carts...and I like THOSE. Main problem is most of the Genny boxes are all scratched up and the clear cover is screwed up plus the inserts have stains/water wrinkle damage.

Time to bring this back. Hey newer members and those who missed it the first time around - this is for you!

I still have Jordan vs. Bird, and rarely play it. Mostly because it's one of those games I used to be great at, but now suck at. I'd rather play NBA Jam, even if neither player is in the game.

I still don't own that many Genny sports carts. I did get the Mutant League games, though. I also have NBA Live '96 and David Robinson's Supreme Court. Both were in a free box in a store I visited earlier this year. I had no interest in either game (especially since I already own NBA Live '96 on the SNES) but for free, I figured what the hell.

I don't remember seeing this thread before but it's a good idea: "Justify your Sega Sports games". So...

Arnold Palmer Tournament Golf - I like golf games in general and discovered this one through emulation so I picked up a complete copy for a whopping 99 cents (the owner of the shop, knowing my general disdain for sports games, looked at me like I was nuts). For an older golf game it's got pretty good physics, especially on the green.

Lakers vs Celtics NBA Playoffs & NHL Hockey `94 - I was given these along with my 1st Genny, which was a gift from a friend. Haven't played either yet. Will probably never play the NBA game but I've heard people say good things about NHL `94 so I'll check it out sometime.

Olympic Gold & Olympic Summer Games - I'm an Olympics junkie so I bought both of these at a thrift during and in the spirit of the 2004 Summer Games. They're both a mixed bag. Some events are fun and some simply aren't.

Rugby World Cup `95 - Played rugby in college so I picked this up to try it videogame style. Good game.

Lakers vs Celtics NBA Playoffs

I played this back in its heyday. Like with pretty much every early 90's EA basketball game, you aren't missing out on much. Slow gameplay and being limited to the teams that made the playoffs that year (though they do include the All-Star teams) equals a game that has aged terribly.

I did enjoy it back in the day, but after NBA Jam came out, followed by the improved NBA Live franchise, it was hard to go back.

-World Series Baseball: to this day it is one of the greatest video baseball games I have ever played though later installments on the Genesis were a little better and fixed some annoying glitches, my current copy came from Goodwill and it is complete

-Greatest Heavyweights: real boxers, great graphics and gameplay (for the time) along with a career mode that you can save with the cartridge battery, my current copy came from Goodwill and is complete, the battery still works good today

-NBA Live 95: a much better basketball game by EA, my current copy (boxed) came from Goodwill

-NBA Live 96: this cart only title came from a Genesis lot I purchased on Ebay last year

-NBA Showdown 94: this cart only entry came from a small bundle of games I purchased in the Buy/Sell forum a month or two ago here, already thinking of getting rid of it :)

-RBI Baseball 94': I always liked this series and the copy I have (complete) came from a pawn shop about 4 months ago

-NFL Quarterback Club (Genesis): obtained a complete copy of this through Goodwill since I liked some of the games in this series, have yet to play it though

-NFL Quarterback Club 96' (Genesis): obtained a complete copy of this through Goodwill since I liked some of the games in this series, have yet to play it though

-NFL Quarterback Club (32X): obtained a cart only copy for $2 in a second hand shop, it'd been sitting there in full view for four years before I finally broke down and bought it only because I now own a 32X (as of last year), much better version of this game than the Genesis ones, not making up the 4-year bit either since it was planted on a store shelf from 2002-2006, of course the price was $6-7 up until it was dropped a few months before I bought it.

-RBI Baseball 95' (32X): I enjoy the RBI series, this one was obtained right here on the Buy/Sell forum, plus I needed something to play on the 32X

-FIFA International Soccer (Sega CD): Hate soccer but I needed software for the Sega CD and that is why I own it, I found a complete copy with a ragged manual over at Goodwill

I also have a couple of fishing games on the Genesis, since I enjoy the genre, but I can't even remember their names. One is TNN Bass Championships, or something like that. I forget the name of the other.

I own nhl 95 because i can do the easy circle around the goal and shoot. You can make the games get to 50 points on one team. you circle around the goalie and the net. the player on the goalie's team will get in his way so you can just shoot it right in lol

Man, what a fun golf game that is/was.

I'll just list the Hockey games I have. I just love console hockey games and pick up whatever I can find. The Genesis and SNES ones are good in particular back when EA made some stellar sports games.

Mario Lemieux Hockey
NHL Hockey
NHL '94
NHL '95
NHL All-Star Hockey '95
Wayne Gretzky and the NHLPA All-Stars

Looking at my list, I know there are several to go. I also have a large quantity of golf and football games because they're the only Genny carts I can find locally (and they're super cheap).

I'm going for a complete collection and have all but one. I still need to get Mutant League Hockey which I believe is the second 'rarest' sports title after Madden Championship Edition.

Haven't spent much time playing any of them.

Here are some sports games I own on the Sega Genesis:

College Football USA 96? (can't remember the year) Why? I really don't know, as I was pretty young at the time, but I do remember getting it from Blockbuster.

Bulls vs Lakers in the NBA Playoffs: Not too sure why I have this one, either. Can't remember. It's a decent game though.

Sports Talk Baseball. Why? I'm not sure when I first got the game (I was pretty young, like 9 or 10 years old) but this is one excellent baseball game! Quite possibly the greatest baseball game of all time in my opinion. There was just something about this game that I loved, like Sonic the Hedgehog. The commentary on this game is excellent, probably even better than some modern baseball games! He really keeps up with the action pretty good. The main gameplay is simple, easy, and FUN! Me and my brother always like to pop in this game every once in a while and play a two player game. :)

NBA Jam: Not really a "real" sports game, per say, but it is arcade basketball. I got this game for my brother a few years back from EB Games when they were still selling Genesis games. :)

I own a sealed Genesis Model 2 NFL '94 gift set. You get special Genny Christmas packaging....a sealed copy of NFL '94.....a copy of Sonic 1 (as a loose cart)....one controller....console....cables...and the first issue of Sega Magazine. The box has a slide off outer sleeve which allows you to look at all of the stuff inside. I also have a near-mint copy of NHL 94, complete with sales receipt and all blow in cards. Before I was a gamer, I would always go to my friend's place and he would have this NHL 94 cart in his Genny, which had a permanent place in the middle of his coffee table. When he sold his Genny years later, he wanted me to add his prized, beloved copy of NHL 94 to my growing game collection, just to "keep it in the family". Now I have a sudden urge to play NHL 94!!

Time for another update. In an earlier post, I mentioned that I got David Robinson's Supreme Court for free. I wound up giving it away to a friend.

I acquired NHL '97 and PGA Tour Golf III last month. I was thinking of getting NHL '94 instead of '97, but I wanted to check out the skills challenge in '97. I might wind up getting '94 anyways since it won't set me back more than 50 cents at most, and I'm kind of curious to see what all the hype is about. As for PGA Tour Golf III, I've wanted to get a golf game for the system and from what I've read, that sounded like the best one.

I own every US genesis sports title boxed. I am one away from a US Genny Collection(A box/inst for Crusader of Centy). Two reasons I own them: I love Sega. I collect Sega. In short, I have many fond memories of Sega Sports titles as a child. The one that stands out in my mind is when a teacher of mine started having Madden Tournaments back in 93(we actually played Madden 92...the ambuliance smashing edition). We played that one for DAYS.

NBA Jam was a huge one for me, I still play it from time to time on my Nomad.

Tecmo Bowl series was a constant play for me when I played high school football(Genesis versions). I remeber playing way too much of that one and neglecting homework.

Having alot of friends that were not sports fans, we could settle on one game...Mutant League Football...although we also did like Hockey but not as much.

Also, I was a huge VR Racing fan. I was one of the people who bought it back in the day...and dont regret it!

off the top of my head:

NBA Jam - got it new way back when and it was fun...what's the point in getting rid of it?
various NBA Lives - ditto
Bulls Vs Lakers - ditto
NHL Hockey 94 - Can anyone deny that this game is fun
NBA Showdown - Nostalgia, pretty fun game in it's own right
Tecmo Super Bowl - This may be the best $3 I ever spent. Nowadays I usually play the NES version, but I spent dozens upon dozens of hours playing this version as well.
Tecmo Super Bowl 3, Final Edition - i read about how great this game was, so I bought it. I could never really get into it, though.
Sports Talk Baseball - Nostalgia
Various NFL/Joe Montana Games - Nostalgia...and..."LOOK OUT! OOPS, HE DROPPED IT!"..."It's third down and the kicking team comes on...I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! WHAT A MISTAKE!"

I've got both Mutant League games, both Pete Sampras Tennis games (to complete the collection of J-Carts), both Sensible Soccers, and World Championship Soccer 2 (Classic Edition).

Oh, and California Games if that counts.

For Genesis sport games, I have:

Lakers vs. Celtics and the NBA Playoffs — This game should have been titled Pistons vs. Blazers as this game represent the time when the Pistons defeated the Blazers. I keep this game for the reason the Pistons were champions in this game and I like this game as it hold memory from my childhood playing this game and using real players and teams.

NHL Hockey — I keep this game because it was the first one and I play well from my Childhood. I do not know much about Hockey so I cannot care about real players and numbers. It is a well playing game and is cool when they throw hats after a hat trick!

Mutant League Hockey — It is a fun spoof on NHL Hockey.

And about a 5 years ago, my friend and I spent about $15 on a bunch of Madden football games as a joke… we destroyed a bunch of them to spite one of our friend who played madden and then we said we would play madden tourney if only it was madden for Genesis…
My friend has since move to Florida but a hand ful of these madden game are in my basement…
