since SILENT HILL 1 is my favorite all time game (along with zelda nes) I was wondering how many other gamers here would also like to see a new REmake of SH1 I would luv to see it remade on the current gen systems with the graphics engine used in parts 3/4.
just as long as they didnt screw with the storyline or anything else to much maybe they could add a lot of great extras like in the REmake cube or even elaborate on some of the endings a little more like the one that ties into part 3.
I do luv the original and the older PSX graphics are actually kinda appealing to me becuase it makes the game all that much more darker and sinister appearing.
but since its the best in the series (they are all great though) its a shame that it never got the exposure that its PS2 counterparts did therefore I think a REmake would be a great idea in that it would be made available to so many who have never played it or started out on SH2 and beleive me a lot of ppl never played Silent Hill before SH2 was released on PS2.

I like the game the ways it is floating dogs and all. A remake would sell well Im shure and give the game the cred it needs. But since I like the original so much I would adventually have to get it.

I for one, will say it will be a challenge to improve such an excellent, the original Silent Hill is very dark compared to the other 3 in my honest opinion. Everytime I play it, it feels so serious as a horror while you play and how all the effects engulf you in this game.

Silent Hill 2 was more of a love story torn apart..yet sort of pulled away from the serious horror, Silent Hill 3 was kinda comical because of Heather's silly 18 year old attiude..and I don't care for the soundtrack in SH3 at all, it was too "her style" kind of music. In other words, I don't like lyrics in my BGM for games.

I have yet to play Silent Hill 4.

As for the suggestion of a remake of part 1, I would love to see it, which they will probably do as part of an "Anniversary" or something since most companies are doing this as well.

Speaking of GameCube, did you know, Silent Hill 2 was cancelled for GameCube? Deemed "Too violent", old discussion from 2001 back on ign.com I believe

I'd buy it. I've tried a few times to get into the original as I loved 2 and 3 (still need to play 4) but I always found the controls and graphics just held me back. I'm not normally a graphics whore by any means but then again it's hard to get creeped out by lego people... >.>

But then I said the same thing about Clock Tower PSX when I first played it, and went back and fell in love with the game. So, I'm sure I just need to give Silent Hill one last shot.

I like the original. Too early for a remake IMHO.

Now if nintendo would do a proper Legend of Zelda remake in 2-D :-P

I'm also in the "not mess with the original" bracket. Silent Hill is easily one of my Top 5 PSX games. Man, I should go back and play that soon. :D

For example, another one of my top 5 is Metal Gear Solid, and when they remade it for GameCube (Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes), it just didn't grab me as much. I'm afraid to play it because it would steal away from the charm of the original; which I thought was perfect.

Who deemed it too violent? The Big N?!? I've been wondering why the GC was the only next-gen system to not see GTA...

I would like to see an updated version of Silent Hill, not to mention a version of Silent Hill 3 ported to the Xbox.

I'd have to say, "that's a damn fine idea." My dad actually remembers playing that game...always says it was one of his favorites. There's no doubt I loved it as well....they should do it just like the RE remake for the gamecube. Wouldn't that be great? :D

Now that we are nearing the release of the first Next-gen console Xbox360 I think it IS DEFINITELY a perfect time for a REmake of the original :D

I still play the original and plan on another play through this weekend but everytime I do play the original PSX game Im reminded of how the graphics have not aged well at all , dont get me wrong I luv the "style" of the graphics and Konami did a great job with what was available to them at the time with the PSone but this truly great game (still my favorite of the whole series) really deserves a graphical update so that more gamers can experience it.

And with the Graphical capabilities of the Xbox360 or PS3 I think it would reach a whole slew of new gamers both hardcore and casual.

I'd love to see a Silent Hill remake. The Silent Hill series is one of my favorites. It would definitely sell a whole lot. I would snatch it up right when it came out! :P

the fog effects could be improved for a remake. i wouldn't mind seeing interaction between the npcs added (since they basically ignore each other till the last 20% of the game).

also, i've always wanted to know who all the dead bodies are of in the series. there's the one you find at the very beginning of sh1, the guy getting mauled by pyramid head in sh2, the person heather finds being killed by the closer in sh3. haven't finished sh4 yet (got sidetracked, and its hard getting into a scary mood).

maybe you could find some audio tapes, or something, to show how some of these people ended up as dead. a few extra special weapons would be nice. perhaps, an unkillable monster like forester in REmake?

I'm gonna say no to this one. The first Silent Hill is my favorite in the series, so why not just leave well enough alone? There are too many remakes out there as it is. I want something new and fresh for a change. :/

You mean "REmake"? It was the original code name for Resident Evil when it was being released on Cube.

Then again, I wish Capcom would have used it's beta name

"Resident Evil: Rebirth"

Silent Hill 1 does not need a remake. It does control a tad bit clunky, but I still don't think that it needs to be redone. The game is excellent as it is. That being said, I would totally snatch up a remake on current gen/ nextgen hardware.

I've played through all of them. Silent Hill 2 gripped me the most however, I've played through for all 7 endings (the GH version has 7 I think) I'm sure that I have beaten it more than 10 times. I loved it. I've beaten 1, 3 & 4 only once each.

***spoilers***
ok? don't read more if you want to stay pure!
ok!....

I'm not sure how much I like the fact that Harry is Heather's (Cheryl's) father. Ok, so she is the baby that he gets in one of the SH1 endings - but it really pisses me off that he dies in the begining of SH3 in a way only reserved for less-than-important characters. Oh well.

The Silent Hill play novel was receiving a fan-translation at one point but I'm not sure how far it got. I would die for that translation!!

I disagree. I'm sure the game is excellent the way it is, however I've never been able to get over the blocky graphics. It was something I couldn't stand when the playstation was out and now I just find them dated and they detract from the creepiness factor of the game. I love the Silent Hill series however, and would definately snap up a remake of the original.

Which is better? Resident Evil 2 or Silent Hill? A provocative perspective from a game designer:

(scroll down in the article to cut to the chase)

Mind you, I like Silent Hill (but haven't finished it), and I've only played part of the first Resident Evil, so I can't make an informed judgment here.
