Just checkin out all of the neato daily rags. The NY Times did a piece on the totally neato and pretty grumpy George Romero. I met him this past weekend. He wasn't thrilled to meet your old pal RCM. Can you believe that? Anyway, he had an interesting quote about Resident Evil, take a look:

A tall, shaggy bear of a man with a beard, ponytail and oversize, square black glasses, Mr. Romero believes the current revival says more about Hollywood than the culture at large. "If one horror film hits,'' he said in an interview, "everyone says, 'Let's go make a horror film.' It's the genre that never dies.'' In addition, he said, he thinks the "Resident Evil'' video games "woke everyone up."

Romero seems to think that the RE series has stimulated the current Zombie film craze. I would have pointed to the House of the Dead series myself! Ha ha ha ha. The HOTD film might be the worst one i've ever seen by one of the worst writers in the biz.

Not to drag this toooo far away from a videogame-related topic, but Romero was originally slated to direct the Resident Evil movie. In fact, he wrote one of the first scripts for the film. It was unused, but - in my opinion - it more closely follows the storyline of the game, as well as having that Romero zombie charm.

And, if you've never read the Romero Resident Evil script, it's all over the Internet. Here's one place:

Resident Evil script by George Romero (http://www.allmoviescripts.com/scripts/14934168593f510427668d1.html)

I *really* wish they would've used this.

Yeah I remember that. RE could have been a really great Zombie film had Romero done it.

Yeah there would have been more zombie and less of the kung fu stuff if he did it.

I did enjoy both films ,though I wish they would have actually based them off the games and in the same order.

The 3rd movie is going into production soon

Its call resident evil 3 : AFTERLIFE

Actually, Romero directed a Japanese commercial or two for "Biohazard 2!" Interestingly, it was never shown in the States. If you like to see what his movie may have been like, then take a look at what his commercials were like:

About half-way down the page. Descriptor gives a bit oif insight as to WHY it was never shown here....
